Hi Ira,

I will be to the point with you on this and it may very well make you upset. That is a very misleading quote and children that believe such do not understand themselves let alone adults. Many times adults will question you as to your reason for doing something. After all no one can know what is going on in someone else's mind except for God. Sometimes an adult sees the error of the child's way of thinking and the child calls it "not understanding me".

A wise child will respect and accept the counsel of a Godly adult.

Here are some of my favorite quotes from THE book.

Pro 12:15  The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.

Pro 19:20  Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.
Pro 19:21  There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.

Here are a few of my own, from the greatest book ever written.

Ephesians 6:1-3 CHILDREN, OBEY your parents in the Lord [as His representatives], for this is just and right. 2 Honor (esteem and value as precious) your father and your mother--this is the first commandment with a promise 3 That all may be well with you and that you may live long on the earth.

Colossians 3:20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this is pleasing to the Lord.

I often tend to remember that sort of philosophy...I remember when I was young that I thought my parents did not understand me, or understand what it was like...  But now that I am older and have children...  I can see some of that coming out in my older son...but I can see what is going on around him and I know that I went through some of the same things he is.  As children we do not think about the fact that our parents were once kids too...  We only imagine them as 30 somethings and have been there forever. 

The Bible provides those quotes mentioned above as in an insight and tool to be used to let younger minds know that we old fogies may have crust coming off our joints...but we have alot of experience and knowledge wrapped up on our minds and are more than willing to share in our experiences so that the younger crowd can learn from them and hopefully not repeat the mistakes that were made.

great quotes guys. I chose this quote from the little prince because it really fascinates me and there are times it is true. It is quite fascinating that children can understand things more than adults in some.....weird way. It can also apply to conspiracies of the school teacher who wants to punish a child but can't do so because it is the own teacher's fault not being responsible for a child's homework.

Yes, I am kinda upset because I'm hoping that some people will post quotes from fictional books that doesn't have any meaning but sounds gibberish yet fascinating.

I probably would have, however I really do not have a "favorite" quote from a fictional book.  I have read a lot of fiction, and most of it great stories...just nothing that comes to life as quotable :)

Okay Ira, here is a quote out of a book. The Ezekiel Option, by Joel C. Rosenburg pg. 405.

"Lord Jesus, I need you. I'm so sorry for not coming to you sooner."

I am told that anyways...It was so long ago.... I have slept since then so my memory ain't so good.  My kids can't imagine it and think I was this old all the time.  Sort of like I am Adam...I was created old :)

Father Ira, I was just wondering if you're sure about this being German.  I'm no language expert, but it reads like one of the Romance languages to me.  Possibly Spanish?  Or actually, I was thinking French.


A quote I enjoy from an allegory called "Hinds Feet on High Places" by Hannah Hurnard reads, "Even if the way up to the High Places appears to be obscured and you are led to doubt whether you are following the right path, remember the promise, 'Thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand and when ye turn to the left.'
