Title: Written or Found
Post by: islandboy on April 08, 2007, 06:21:40 PM
Someone made a comment to me today,  concerning when the Books of the New Testament were written.
Were they written one-thousand years after Jesus died?
Or found  one- thousand years after his death and resurrection?
Or neither of the choices above.
It was one of those times when my mind goes blank and the usual answer is not on the tip of my tongue. I am going to look it up, but I thought I would share it here and give everyone else here a chance to put in the correct answer.

Neither one. The books of the New Testament were written by the Apostles. This means that these books were all written no later than 100 AD.

Greetings in the Lord Islandboy:

As Pastor Roger stated they were written somewhere in the timespan of the
apostles (ie 30-100 a.d.)

If we look into the scriptures we find a more complete answer to your question

2Pe 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
2Pe 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

I hope this helps :
yours in Adonai Yeshua ha Machiach:

Thank you for your responses. I knew the apostles part, but I was unsure about the time line. By your reply  and my own research I was able to give the person who ask me and truthful positive answer.

Next question.  Where were each of  the books of the Bible stored until they were put into book form?
In caves.
In the  Churches  during that time in history.
Or neither.

They were on scrolls in their original languages and there were more copies than just one. Normally the scrolls would be kept in churches, monastery's and synagogues. A little more detail on this can be seen at:

Hello Islandboy, many Bibles today have a short synopsis of the Gospel and the Epistles, when they were written, by whom, to who they were written, and where they were written from.

As Brother Roger already mentioned before 100 AD.

The Book of Revelations which we believe to be the last written, was written by John the Apostle, he was also the youngest of all of the Apostles.

It was written probably near the end of the reign of the Roan emperor Domitian ----AD 95-96.

This is just an additional brain tickler for those of you who like to learn about the early Christians. Did you know that Luke was the only Gentile to write one of the Gospels? He also was not an Apostle. He was the beloved physician.

I had a discussion recently with an atheist who brought up these very arguments.  His main point was that Augustine was the one who decided which books to include in the new testament and that many books were overlooked, left out, etc.

What I learned researching this, is that there was a list of which books were considered authentic long before Augustine.  What was remarkable about this was, that early churches individually decided on the SAME letters to include in the New Testament independantly!!!!.  They are chose the same letterss as authentic, which Augustine also chose some centuries later, which are all the books of the NT we have passed down to this day....lol

Thats not short of remarkable...its miraculous!   Gods Living Word needs no one to defend it...its stood the test of time all by itself.

Blessings!
