Title: Loves Sweet Parting
Post by: islandboy on April 03, 2007, 02:30:23 PM
I wanted to share a bit about my dog, who was also my best friend. "Goodboy", passed away at 10 years of age. I had found him as a puppy along side a country road, chewing on an old piece of pig skin. The vet I took him to said he had so many health problems from being out on his own at such a young age he wasn't expected to live. However, no one told him that. He was given shots, worming, and all the necessary things to give him a chance at life at the vets office and at home I gave him lots of love and "Mighty Dog" dog food. The vet said he would grow to be a medium sized dog. He grew much larger than that. Goodboy was the only name he would ever answer too. He was an excellent guard dog and an excellent friend. Sometimes he was too smart for his own good. But through it all it was love that created the bond that we shared. I will never forget his way of knowing.....just what it was that I needed. He was my friend and he never let me down in good times and bad times he was always at my side.

Do you have a memory of a pet you would like to share?

Hi islandboy,

That is indeed a beautiful friend that you had. Pets are a wonderful gift from God to us.

I looked around your site. I really liked the first poem on the poem page.

Hello Islandboy,

I understand what you mean by calling your dog a friend. I recently lost an old friend named Buster. He was 16 years old, and he didn't have a mean bone in his body. He gave our family unconditional love for 16 years, and we miss him.

I have another old friend sitting next to me right now. He's 15 years old and named Rocky. He's still in pretty good health except for some arthritis, and he thinks that he's in charge of the house.

I've had dogs all of my life and probably always will. Pets give us much more than what we give them. Dogs are the only pets that I've ever grown really attached to. They do become almost like one of the family, and it is hard to lose one. Our kids are grown and in other states, so I'd have to say that we spoil our dogs.

I have lost many good friends in my life. Some were furry, others had feathers and a few were human. ;D
There are several animals that died of old age that will always have a piece of my heart. It is sad we have to lose our old friends, but at least we get to keep all that love they gave us.

Islandboy, your dog's photo is great....Goodboy is such a great name, too.

I lost my dog (a Shiz Tzu) many years ago.  After that, I adopted homeless kittens from my street and also fed some stray cats for many years.  So I've lost many cats as well.

One particular cat (Snowflake) I especially loved was an older stray that I fed for years on the street.  Even when I didn't have any food, she would scamper down a tree to come and greet me.   I finally had the opportunity to take her inside.  She was the sweetest cat and very well behaved, and loved having an inside home finally.  I'm sorry that she only lived inside with me for 2 years and 3 months before passing away.  But she was a real joy during that time and also during the time I took care of her while she lived on my street.
