Title: Whats the last movie you watched??
Post by: Shammu on January 12, 2007, 11:16:51 PM
Right now, I'm watching "The Quite Man." Starring John Wayne, Marleen O'Hara made in 1952.  And I am staying up late to watch it.............. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Why can't Hollywood make great movies like this again??

The Lord of The Rings: Return of the King.  Before that, The Devil Wears Pradda.  Loved rewatching LOTR.  Stomached the other for my wife's sake.  But mark my youthful words: John Wayne movies rock!!!!!!!  As for Hollywood?  Aaaaaaaaahhh, they started following Rock Hudson's lead.   :D

Last movie I watched was fantastic four and superman returns. I like superhero movies.
I want to see "The passion of the Christ". I am nervous about seeing it, but surely, if I can watch action movies, I can watch that

I rarely go to the movies, but I saw "Charlotte's Web" with my daughter's family and grandsons recently. It was an animated show that was for the entire family, and we all enjoyed it. It was sold out several times, and the seats were packed with parents and small children. I would hope that Hollywood gets the message and knows that many families want clean movies and clean television.

UM? I was just thinking that I've seen about 5 movies in the last 6 years, and all of them were with my grandsons. The one before was "Cars", and I think that all of them were animated. So, my wife and I are wild and crazy people living on the edge.    ;D

"The Second Chance" It is rated PG-13 because of some drug references. Even then it was a great movie as it details the struggles of a small church in a bad neighborhood. It's most important line of thought is how we as Christians can get carried away with the things of this world but that God will see us through and bring us home if our hearts are in the right place.

I don't watch many movies and don't see them more than once but this is one that I will probably watch again.

We rent more than go to the movies...although it is getting just as expensive to rent now days.

But the last movie I watched was "Soldier of God".  And I would not recommend it for anyone.  A real snoozer that had little in the way of a story line.

I am getting ready to go see Ghost Rider though...I too like the comics and have enjoyed the Marvel lineups.  And this year is going to be a big one.

A night at the movies for me is kicking back in the lounger, eating some Reddenbacker with a cup of dark hot chocolate or coffee and maybe some fudge. I saw a portion of the "Soldier of God" and couldn't make it past the first 15 mins.

LOL that is always good as well.

And yeah somehow I pushed my way through that movie.... I do not know how....I guess I was waiting for the redeeming quality in it...It never came

If a movie doesn't catch me in the first 15 minutes I leave it and return to my Bible studies.

I am usually about the same....although I have gotten lazier over the past couple of years...there have been a couple of movies that the wife and I sat down to.  And ended the movie wondering why we wasted 2 hours of time.

I am only thankful that it was not in a theatre cause I hate walking out on a movie...feels like money wasted.

The last movie i went to see was  Night at the Museum  has Ben Stiller  and Owen Wilson etc, my 6 yr old LOVED it, cause it had a skeletal T-Rex that acted like a dog, and the fact that it broke a bone of its own off its back to play fetch with, well that made it just a "awesome " movie for him LOL.. it was a cute movie tho, so all  was well there..

I have seen the "The Second Chance" three times now. As I said earlier I don't normally watch a movie more than once but I have enjoyed this one each time. (My wife and I made our kids watch it with us.  :D )

I may watch it again this week end just for fun. I really do recommend it for all. Lot's of wonderful lessons in it.

the most recent movie i saw was ghost rider, it was good i thought, i don't want to say too much about it, but there was alot about the devil and selling of souls.  even though it was worth seeing i thought.

the movie i saw before that was called "the last flight out" it was by billy graham, it was good and had a great gospel message easily explained.  it is a must see.  it helped that the main actor was cute.

I watched The passion of the Christ today
I was crying and thinking, why? I deserve that punishment. I also didn't want him to suffer, but he did it for me and everyone. Of course I already knew why but it is so different when seeing it.

Hello Brother David,

The barbarism and pain of a crucifixion really can't be reproduced in film. Any attempt falls far short of an actual crucifixion, so we can really only imagine how bad it was. We do have a doctor's description of some of the things a person crucified would go through in the "Apologetics" area, and it's gruesome.

Brother, you've already stated one of the most important facts about the crucifixion of JESUS CHRIST. It was solely for us, and HE took our place for the punishment we deserve. JESUS CHRIST went willingly to the CROSS because no power in the universe has power over HIM. HE was the ONLY AND PERFECT SACRIFICE that could set us free from the curse of sin and death.

The Old Testament foretold of HIS Coming, but HIS Own didn't accept HIM when the prophecy was fulfilled. He performed many miracles and gave the Jews the signs and wonders they require for belief, but most of them still rejected HIM. In fact, HE was and is the anointed King Of Israel. HE will claim HIS earthly throne at HIS appointed time. In the meantime, HE is also the KING OF KINGS of a Heavenly Kingdom. I give thanks every day that I'm already a part of HIS Heavenly Kingdom. It's also most wonderful to know that the HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD lives in the hearts of every Christian. HE will never leave or forsake us. We are never alone and belong to HIM for eternity. We will all go home to be with HIM soon, as this life is very short. Our real citizenship is in Heaven, and our HOPE is ETERNAL. HE will also give us a glorified body like HIS one day, and it will be free of pain and disease forever.

Brother David, we have every reason to rejoice and give thanks every day of even this short life. Thanks be unto GOD for HIS unspeakable GIFT, JESUS CHRIST, our LORD and Saviour forever!

Love In Christ,
Tom

Proverbs 3:19-20 NASB  The LORD by wisdom founded the earth, By understanding He established the heavens.  By His knowledge the deeps were broken up And the skies drip with dew.

Matthew 17:5 NASB  While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, "This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!"

Colossians 3:15-16 NASB  Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

Hello NateyCakes,

I really like the old movies also, but not because of the cute leading men.   ;D

The old stuff is clean and entertaining. There was a time when the quality of the acting, the scripts, and the direction made the movie popular - AND it was and is G-Rated. These days, it appears that they add all of the R-Rated stuff in to sell the movie because they suffer from lack of talent. This is at least true from my perspective.

BEP I agree completely.
There are some great actors and such out there today do not get me wrong.  But when they do their best job it rarely gets noticed.

I love the technology in the event of sci-fi or similar movies.  I prefer the old fashion stunts but every now and then special effects are good for something actiony.

But all in all there is nothing like the good ole early days of the silver screen.

I watched the Nativity Story this weekend, there were quite a few things that I don't think were in line with the Bible. But as my husband says "It's entertainment, after all it wasn't produced by a Christian."

I guess if anyone watches it that they should always remember that if it isn't in line with the Bible it's just as my husband says entertainment

Blackeyedpeas, I couldn't have said it better. I absolutely agree. My niece always picks on me and says Im too old fashioned at this age, but the movies they present now, I wouldn't watch for a million dollars. Seems like every movie made now has to consist of the following: A ridiculous amount of vulgarity, even though it doesn't make any sense when it said, you can only hear the "F" word so many times before it gets tiresome {in which case by the first use of it, I'm usually done w/ the movie}, Lots of unnecessary violence and gruesome. Seems like movies now are seeing who can get the bloodiest for shock value. Yes, I want to pay $8.50 at a theatre to see some guys ankle chopped off and zoom in how the person is hacking through the bones and veins- Erg. No thanks. Then don't forget, the "big" thing now in movies is the Blasphemous attention to God or Christianity or Jesus. Using the Lords name in vein, using churches and Bibles as a way to promote their perversion, Satan is always glorified and you have some "Christian" who is made to look like the "crazed" one while the more demonic the scenes are the better the attention it grabs.

Sorry, not into any of. For me, that sort of stuff has been played out, done a million times. Never impresses me and I can think of 7,458 other things then insult my intelligence to watch that rubbish for 2 hours. While some may say Black & Whites are out of date, etc. @ least they had a point to them. The dialogue was classic at best. One liners were everywhere. The leading men & women really caught your eye and there is something to be said about the innocence of those movies that today’s movies, no matter how hard they try cannot capture.

Having said all this, this isn't to say EVERY SINGLE movie is bad, but the majority coming out of Hollywood is putrid. There really is nothing original and I understand why Hollywood does it and don't you think for a second the enemy doesn't love this stuff revealed. He uses it to his advantage especially for the young.

Ok...enough rambling. I'm off to watch another movie. Love it: Harvey with Jimmy Stewart and his talking/invisible Pooka!

I just watched "Saints and Soldiers". A very touching story about 5 men that survived the Malmedy massacre during World War 2. One of the characters I think is a Mormon but they don't actually say so. The only reference is that he doesn't drink coffee or smoke. But he does read a little black book in the shape of a Holy Bible and he prays. The story is very touching and moving. And it's based on history. I'm a history buff so I like that kind of thing.

Seeing thats it's been a while since..............

The last movie I watched, is ending right now. "Cars"

Even if your not race fans you really don't have to be to get on the road with this one. Not just for kids. Kids will like the cute characters, and bright colors, adults will like it simply because it's just plain entertaining without having to dumb down to appeal to kids. You'll find yourself wanting to find the next twisty backroad to get to your next destination.

Owen's good, Newman is classic, if a little flat, I applaud him for just plain staying active and leaving his house!, but it's really Larry the Cable Guy's movie (who I'm not a fan of) appreciation for that one and "tow-mater" is a multi-layered pun. Not only on the fact that he's a tow truck, but also his "they call me tater salad" bit. Overall, highly entertaining, just try not to speed too much on the way home.

Hey I don't have NASCAR right now, and like my racing...............

Hello Dreamweaver,

Brother, my wife and I have been to the movie theater twice in about the last 3 years, and "Cars" was one visit with the grandkids. YES - this was a fun and clean movie for the entire family. I can't remember the name now, but the other movie we saw was also with the grandkids, and it was also animated. It looks like Hollywood might learn a lesson with movies like this for families. They were sold out for just about every showing. The other movie was about a fish. It was also fun, but I enjoyed "Cars" more.

I'll echo what someone else said and say that I still watch the old cartoons from time to time on TV. When I can find them, I also like the Three Stooges, Abbott and Costello, Laurel and Hardy, The Little Rascals, and a few other really old programs.

Ref. the movies, I just go to the movies with the grandkids, and they have to be clean family fare. In Oklahoma terms, "Cars" was a HOOT!   ;D

Brother, that's it. Nemo was a really cute movie - FUN - and quite entertaining for the entire family. I first thought that only the little ones would like it, but the adults in the audience had almost as much fun - including the gray-headed ones.

I have been lending my DVD of The End of the Spear to everyone I can, and when I had it back last week I watched it again. It is such an inspiring story, and always gives me a good reminder that when among non-Christians (as I am daily in this 'multicultural' area), it is very important to try to be a credit to the name of Christ.
Now I have loaned my DVD again, I really should buy another copy for home use.

That movie is just plain awesome.  Ranks higher on my list of movies to make your spirit move than The Passion did.

Latest one I have watched though was The Astronaut Farmer with Billy Bob Thornton.  I would say that is a good family flick as well.  I think if I remember there was one, maybe two curse words....but if there were that was it.  Otherwise just a fun all  around movie.

Title: Re: Whats the last movie you watched??

I'm glad you have seen The End of the Spear!  I am surprised at how many of my Christian friends have not seen it. It is excellent for lending to non=Christians as it is such a well-made movie, and of course the main story is true, so no-one can say it is hard to believe that Christians could sacrifice themselves to save the souls of others.

The Astronaut Farmer sounds interesting!  It's not often that a Hollywood film has 'only' a couple of curse words.  Even  TV shows use them now, which is why I generally just watch Fox news and Christian shows.

"The End of the Spear" uh?  I haven't even heard of it, but I will look for it.  I just got (for Christmas) the first season of Perry Mason!  Oh yeah!

Title: Re: Whats the last movie you watched??

I haven't hears of that movie, "The End of the Spear".  Since you highly of the movie I'll look for it.

Though the last movie I watched was, "Dinotopia." The movie has some moral conviction that are good for todays youth.

Now of course the acting, script, graphics, and all could be better, but I didn't judge the movie on those things, but rather the story it told, and I found it to be a fantastic story. It reminded me of when I was young and tried to imagine what it would be like if dinosaurs did not become extinct and lived in the present day. Dinotopia shows one possibility, a possibility that I always imagined and more. I of course love dinosaurs. Zippo was awesome in my opinion. I think he is what got me interested in the movie in the first place because of the fact that he is an intelligent, friendly, and a talking dinosaur. I think it interested me because it is something that I do not get to see very often (visually anyways), but only in my imagination. This movie nearly brought it to life to me. I think Lee Evans did a great job as the voice of Zippo. He really put the emotion and personality in the character of Zippo. Have you ever imagined a city built on top of a large waterfall? I know I haven't and when I saw it, I thought it was breathtaking.

The movie is a long one, 250 minutes, 4 hours and 10 minutes.

1-5 1 being the lowest 5 being the best

Language: 5
Plot: 6
Morals: 4.75
Quality: 4.5

Over all I'd rate the movie 2 thumbs up, good for children to watch, and learn.

I hadn't heard of Dinotopia, so I looked it up on the IMDb. It sounds like it was an excellent mini-series, I don't know why I didn't watch it in 2002.  Thanks for the recommendation, I will look for it now.

If you want links that will help you to get The End of the Spear, look at the website for the Mission Aviation Fellowship  (MAF).  They will also send you a free book about the main character in the (fact-based) movie, you just enter your name and address online and the book arrives in a week or so.  There is another film on the same subject, it is a documentary and I first saw it at my church.  It sparked my interest in the  story of the missionaries in the Amazon,  so I bought both the documentary, Beyond the Gates of Splendor, and the movie version, The End of the Spear.  Both films are  very well-made and  it is shame they are not more widely known.

Since this topic was started so long ago I've seen several movies and my DVD collection has grown to over 250 movies. I have 90% of the movies made by Pixar, who has made Nemo, Cars (1 & 2), WALL-E, Monsters Inc. & Monster University, Finding Dory, Ants, Planes (1 & 2), and many, many more.

The last movie I saw was, Yankee Doodle Dandy, starring James Cagney, it is based on George M. Cohan life. I guess most people today wouldn't know who Mr. Cohan is or what he did. Those who don't know, a lot of the patriotic music, some we still sing today was written by Mr. Cohan.

Just a few of George M. Cohan songs
You're a Grand old Flag
Over There
Yankee Doodle
Yankee Doodle Boy
Give My Regards to Broadway
Father of the Land We Love
Harrigan
Here Come the Soldiers This is Our Side of the Ocean
What this Country Needs
I was Born in Virginia

George M. Cohan wrote many songs for Broadway Theater
