Title: The awesome power of God
Post by: Amorus on April 24, 2006, 06:56:08 PM
Brothers and Sisters,
I have found myself as of late reading stories from the Old Testament and marveling at the awesome power of God.  I often wonder what was going through the mind of Moses when God told him to throw down his staff.  As it turned into a snake the Lord then told Moses, who was petrified at this point, to pick the snake up by the tail.  He did so, watching the snake turn back into his staff.  Awesome? I would think so.  Although I'm always amazed at this and other stories, the ones that come from fellow Christians are just as powerful.  I would like to share with you the testimony of my wife, which taught me a thing or two about our Savior.

The Tree
We had met early in college and became good friends.  She was a science nerd, there is just no other way to put it.  She was the kind that like to hide in the library, a bookworm of sorts, who only appeared for meals and to sleep.  We spent many weekends together.  It was on one trip to a local mall when a discussion about the origins of the world became a topic.  At this point she had claimed to be an atheist, but that wasn't exactly true because she had some type of belief structure, on more geared towards evolution but nothing based on theology.  But science seem to explain all to her.  I battled her theories with "God created the Heavens and the Earth" and "Let there be light."  It was a light hearted debate, but as the words came from my mouth I was praying for wisdom, hoping to say the right words.  The conversation ended respectfully and we didn't speak of the subject again.  It was about a year later when she was in a family therapy session that she felt frustrated.  Arguments that had no clear ending, ones that didn't make much sense to her, had caused her to leave the session irritated.  It was on this ride home that the Lord reached out and touched her heart.  She happened to glance at a passing farm field.  Off, all alone, on a distant hillside stood one lonely, skinny tree, silhouetted by the setting sun.  She was overwhelmed with the beauty and pondered how something so beautiful could only have the meaning that science would give it.  The light clicked on and she knew, in her heart, that it was a creation of God and that he truly sent his Son to die for her and the world.  She never questioned it, it just made sense.  I was very overwhelmed when she told me and realized the many different mediums God works in.  I always prayed that God would work in her life.  Never once did I think he would use a tree.  That happened almost ten years ago and I still love to tell her story.

"Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom."

Peace to you all!

Welcome to Christians Unite, Amorus. That is a beautiful testimony. God does have his way of using any or all of creation to open the eyes of men. I hope to see more posts from you.

Rom 1:20  For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
