Eph 5:4 says "Let there be no...silly talk, nor levity, which are not fitting; but instead let there be thanksgiving."

Does this mean we should not tell jokes, make wisecracks, or inject humor into things?

The NIV Version:
“Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.”

The NKJV:
“Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.”

The Amplified:
 “Let there be no filthiness (obscenity, indecency) nor foolish and sinful (silly and corrupt) talk, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting or becoming; but instead voice your thankfulness [to God].”

NLT:
“Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes--these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God”

When you read the verses above and below, and the words you replaced with a … in several translations, it becomes clear that this is talking a crude humor and joking about homosexuality and other sinful sexual acts. That is my geuss, at least.

Well then God should've never created the platypus.

Probably not, but one must be careful not to bring reproach on the Lord Jesus Christ.
