I forgot all about the Daytona 500, DW.
I'm not looking forward to the traffic. And then comes 'spring break', which in my opinion should be cancelled altogether, some of those college kids go real crazy.

I watched about the last 20 laps or so following the #8 car(Jr. finished 6th) :'(. I thought the race couldn't end on a yellow flag and yet it did. But hey, I'm not a true fan of the race.

NASCAR owner-driver Bobby Hamilton starting cancer treatment, turning truck over to son
By DAVID POOLE
The Charlotte Observer

HAMPTON, Ga. - NASCAR Truck Series driver Bobby Hamilton will discontinue racing after Friday night's John Deere 200 and begin treatment for cancer in his neck, Hamilton announced Friday afternoon at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

"I will be back," Hamilton said. "I am not quitting. I am not that weak."

Hamilton, who lives in Tennessee, will turn his No. 18 Dodge over to his son, Bobby Hamilton Jr., while he undergoes chemotherapy and radiation at Vanderbilt University hospital in Nashville.

"My goal is to be back at Homestead," Hamilton said, speaking of the 2006 season finale. "If not, then I'll be back for Daytona in 2007."

Hamilton, the 2004 Truck Series champion who has 10 career victories in that series, said he was diagnosed about three weeks after this year's season-opener at Daytona. He said the cancer is in the lower part of his neck.

Late in the 2005 season, Hamilton said, he had an infected wisdom tooth. He took antibiotics for the infection and then, in late November, had oral surgery to take out the tooth.

"The swelling in my neck wouldn't go down after that," Hamilton said.

He went to have that checked shortly before leaving for Daytona and that led to the tests that uncovered the cancer. "I guess you could say that wisdom tooth saved my life."

Hamilton said he considered trying to continue racing while taking treatments.

"But one of the things they mention about side effects is reaction time," Hamilton said. "So out of respect for everybody I race against, I didn't think it would be fair to the other competitors to even think about that."

Hamilton owns the truck that his son will now drive. Hamilton said he will continue to come to the track when he's able to do so.

"I am going to have to be in bad shape not to be there, I can tell you that," he said. "I love what I do, I love this business. NASCAR has been good to me and I just don't feel comfortable when I am not around it."

Hamilton asked the media not to refer to him as a cancer "victim."

"As of today, I am a cancer survivor," he said. "All you have to do is pray, that's all." (AMEN!! ... DW)

Hamilton is one of 15 drivers who has at least one career victory in each of NASCAR's top three series. He's won four Nextel Cup races and one Busch race in addition to his 10 Truck Series victories.
