Children, he says, need more time in the classroom, a longer school year and earlier exposure to foreign languages to compete in the global market. Daley announced his plan, short on details, at an education conference Saturday. "We give kids too much time off," he said. "We're supposed to be visionaries. We can't educate our children if we give them two months off." Daley said when he visited China, he found that children there learn English before they reach the equivalent of 8th grade, spend more days in school each week and don't have a summer break. he said. School Board President Michael W. Scott said that administrators are researching the initiative. |
