Title: "Don't tell anyone..." Post by: Symphony on July 30, 2003, 09:02:23 PM Why do you think Jesus always, or almost always, asked the people he healed, or perhaps when he performed any kind of miracle, not to "tell anyone"? He didn't want people to know he was the Son of God; He had more ministry to accomplish before the persecutions began and he went to the cross. Title: Re:"Don't tell anyone..." Post by: Skyreacher on July 30, 2003, 09:50:20 PM I had thought it was because He did not want to be overwhelmed with the crowding of people, as was in the case where He told a man to not tell anyone and the man did, then Jesus could not enter the next town and had to teach from out in a boat. His popularity and saftey were an issue. It could also have something to do with Jesus wanting people to have faith in God from word of mouth of the good news, as opposed to seeing miracles performed being a way of faith? Very good question!
Title: Re:"Don't tell anyone..." Post by: stevelanger on August 02, 2003, 05:07:18 PM Hey, we've actually been studying this in our Bible study on Luke. There were a few times he did this. Many times it was because it would have dramatically changed the course of action that was to follow, and potentially the disciples would have interfered in ways they shouldn't have to try and avoid such things. AS well, whe Jesus first reveals himself as the Messiah, he says not to tell because the disciples are not fully informed about the situation. They would not be able to accurately give a description of what he meant to others. Hope that helps

I think that everyone is right. ;) There was work to be done, disciples to teach and prepare, and an appointed time known before the foundation of the world. There is much we will not learn in this life about Almighty God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. I many times think that it is easier and sufficient to say, "I am weak, but HE IS STRONG, ALL TO HIM I OWE!" |
