Title: Communal Living
Post by: M on October 12, 2005, 11:29:32 AM
I am currently doing a scriptural study for proof against or for communal living.  That is Christians sharing all there goods and land in common.  There are a few Christian sects such as the Broderhof and Hutterites that do this today.  It seems many cults practice this as well.

What are your opinions on communal living?

The early Christian church did have communal living. The Apostles sold everything they had and lived together.

Act 2:43  And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.
Act 2:44  And all that believed were together, and had all things common;
Act 2:45  And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.
Act 2:46  And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,

I don't know of any Christian groups that still do it, but a good friend told me a Messianic congregation in the North of the North Island of NZ sold all that they had and trekked down to the South Island to take the gospel to the country. This is a congregation of about 80 people and their Pastor.

I hope this helps.
