by Bill Fancher September 26, 2005 (AgapePress) - Bob Knight of the Culture and Family Institute says pro-family allies were caught flat-footed by a pro-homosexual rights amendment effort when the U.S. House of Representatives "blindsided" them by rushing through a hate crimes bill sponsored by Congressman John Conyers, a liberal Democrat from Michigan. Congress tacked the amendment onto the Child Safety Act, legislation that Knight says "tightened laws against sex offenders who violate children," and pro-family groups only had a four-hour notice that the amendment was being voted on. Still, he notes, there is good news. [Photo compliments of Concerned Women for America] Bob Knight "We're told that a lot of people are very upset about this," the CFI spokesman says, "and that the House leadership is telling people it will be stripped out in conference. That's when the differences between the Senate and House bills are worked out." However, Knight says he and other pro-family advocates would much rather see the Senate deal with the issue before it reaches the conference stage. "Right now we'd like to see the bill stopped in the Senate," he asserts. "It's in the Judiciary Committee and we'd either like to see it voted down there or voted down by the Senate itself." Conyers first introduced his "Hate Crimes Prevention Act" in May 2005, along with colleagues Barney Frank, Lleana Ros-Lehtinen, Tammy Baldwin and Christopher Shays. In addition to enhancing the government's ability to respond to hate crime violence by covering all violent crimes based on race, color, religion, or national origin, the legislation also permits federal involvement in the prosecution of so-called bias-motivated crimes based on the victim's gender, sexual orientation, or disability. Congress passed Conyers' legislation as a late amendment to the Child Safety Act by a vote of 223-199, with 30 Republicans crossing over to vote in favor of the hate crimes measure. Knight and other pro-family advocates are hoping the hate crime measure can still be stripped when the Child Safety Act goes to conference, if not before. Title: Re:Last-Minute Hate Crime Rider Catches Pro-Family Forces Off Guard Post by: JudgeNot on September 30, 2005, 08:19:35 PM Does everyone understand what “hate crime” legislation actually is? Does everyone realize that it is the attempted empowerment of thought control? Does everyone here realize who will be responsible for reading your thoughts and determining if you are within lawful mental-thought guidelines? Do you all understand who will be in control of what is considered ‘hate’ and what is not?
This is all part of the ‘PC Movement’. The “politically correct” movement is a tool to squash free speech, and it is working quite well. I equate hate crimes legislation with book burning; it’s the first step to holocaust. This time Christians will be joining the Jews in the chambers. Title: Re:Last-Minute Hate Crime Rider Catches Pro-Family Forces Off Guard Post by: nChrist on October 01, 2005, 12:47:42 AM Hello JudgeNot,
Before I forget it, we've been missing you. We all like you, so your sentence for being AWOL is pretty light. :D I agree with your thoughts about hate crimes. In this case, it's been a 50 year battle for folks like the ACLU to make Christians shut up. I've got news for them - IT WON'T WORK! First, we've really only begun to fight. Second, most Christians I know will refuse to shut up, and I will be one of those folks. In all reality, the ACLU just might be its own worst enemy. They just might keep shoving till they wake up all of the sleeping Christians in the country. If that really happened, we could take back all of the ACLU's evil gains in 50 years back. The average American, including a lot of liberals, have had just about all of the ACLU that they can stand. The ACLU pinheads don't realize they are becoming known as anti-American by all but a tiny percentage of the population. I think it's time for me to post my ACLU graphic again: (http://www.sirinet.net/~blkidps/1800.gif) I think we could manage one-way tickets out of the country for every ACLU member in less than 24 hours. We might even have money left over for folks thinking about joining the ACLU. We all like you, so your sentence for being AWOL is pretty light. Ah, shucks, Boss. I wasn’t off-line that long. Praise the Lord, my transfer finally came through to our Austin office. I’ve been moving. And moving and moving and moving… And I’m still moving, and moving, and moving… But the Lord has been wonderful. Our CA house was so small that it shows better empty. So we sold almost everything and I moved into a tiny apartment and my wife loaded her truck and went on to Texas. The house was on the market for 3 days and sold for the asking price (about 225% over what I paid for it just 5 years ago). Our God is an awesome God. It’s been in escrow and is supposed to close on 10/6 at which time I hightail it to Austin where I begin work on 10/17. So I’ll be off-line for another period of time beginning Monday or Tuesday. When I get to Texas I’ll rent for several months while we look for the “perfect Hill Country cottage” on a few acres. Then we’ll move AGAIN. I wasn’t as lucky with my boat as I was the house, so I’m taking it with me – I’ve already got a slip reserved on Lake Travis. Wow – making arrangements for transport of a 30’ boat is a REAL pain. But I think it will be worth it – I want to finally be able to use it as a youth ministry tool for what ever church I connect with in the area. I want to take the youth minister along with four or five boys at a time out, teach them something of safe boating and maritime skills, with heavy doses of prayer, witnessing and fellowship. If it’s the Lord’s will, it will work out. Our God is an AWESOME God. I’ll post as time and connections allow. God bless you each and every one. Brother Jim, that is great news! I'm very happy to hear that you did so well in already selling your property. The cost of land and homes in Texas is MUCH less than California. You should be able to buy a really nice home in Texas and have money left over for a retirement nest-egg. I think that you will really enjoy Texas. The people in this part of the country are generally plain, down-to-earth folks who are primarily Christians. I'll be praying that God grants you safety during your move. Love In Christ, Tom Romans 4:20-21 NASB yet, with respect to the promise of God, he did not waver in unbelief but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully assured that what God had promised, He was able also to perform. But this will be my first Hill Country experience. I've already installed mud flaps so the armadillo mess doesn't splash on the guy behind me. No armadillos in Amarillo (too cold) but the jack-rabbits are so big they have antlers like an antelope. I know it's true. I seen one once mounted and hangin' on a wall in a truck stop near Happy, TX. ;D God bless - I'll check back when I plug back in. Jim PS - I know prayer lists have been long as of late. I just want to encourage everyone to keep our troops in your prayers without fail. Praise Jesus for their bravery and sacrifice. Jesus+bravery+sacrifice=USA That's a winning formula. Now I understand everything - a misplaced Texan coming home to play with the "jackalopes". :D We have ropin' contests with those jackalopes in Oklahoma, and WOW! - you should see those jackalopes jump out of the chutes. Of course, the jackalopes in Texas are quite a bit smaller than Oklahoma jackalopes. AND, if you ever get one of those rascals saddled - hang on! ;D Brother, you can count on the prayers continuing. Love In Christ, Tom Psalms 103:17 NASB But the lovingkindness of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him, And His righteousness to children's children, Title: Re:Last-Minute Hate Crime Rider Catches Pro-Family Forces Off Guard Post by: nChrist on October 04, 2005, 02:31:53 AM Dreamweaver,
Brother Bob, I was away from the computer again and see that you beat me to it, but you have a picture of a jackalope. Can I assume that one is a baby who got separated from his mother, or is it just the camera angle? That one doesn't look quite large enough to ride. :D We've got to help Brother Jim get accustomed to coming back to this part of the country. We just successfully crossed a buffalo with a jackalope in our wildlife refuge here, and we're about to have a naming contest for the new breed. Not quite 5 hands tall, thats not enough to even start to ride. :D You know in Arizona, they get to 27 hands, tall. Some of them can be down right mean! Name the baby hmmmmmm, I got to think on that one. 5 minutes later, in real time. I know, Bufajackolope! ;D Title: Re:Last-Minute Hate Crime Rider Catches Pro-Family Forces Off Guard Post by: nChrist on October 04, 2005, 06:05:00 PM Quote Dreamweaver Said: Brother Tom, Oh, it is a 3 month old baby, jackolope.
