Title: Mary had a little lamb, ...
Post by: Ambassador4Christ on July 27, 2003, 04:49:37 PM

Mary had a little lamb,

His fleece was white as snow.

And everywhere that Mary went,

The Lamb was sure to go.

He followed her to school each day,

T'wasn't even in the rule.

It made the children laugh and play,

To have a Lamb at school.

And then the rules all changed one day,

Illegal it became;

To bring the Lamb of God to school,

Or even speak His Name.! ;

Every day got worse and worse,

And days turned into years.

Instead of hearing children laugh,

We heard gun shots and tears.

What! must we do to stop the crime,

That's in our schools today?

Let's let the Lamb come back to school,

And teach our kids to pray!

If you agree, please pass this on

It is said that 86% of Americans believe in God. Therefore I
have a very hard time understanding why there is such a mess
about having "In God We Trust" on our money and having God in
the Pledge of Allegiance. Why don't we just tell the 14% to

shut up and sit down????If you agree, pass this on, if not
delete...

"Why don't we just tell the 14% to shut up and sit down????"

I usually don't like to use words like this, but...you're a total moron.

What a wonderful attitude to have - "My way is right because I said so...so everyone who doesn't agree with me should go to Hell!!"  Oh wait...where have I heard *that* before?? :P  That's right.  Y'all know what I'm talking about.

I'm wasting valuable energy just typing the words to respond to your horrendous post.  Get some common sense and some decency.  Somehow, I just can't picture Jesus saying "Why don't you all sit down and shut up!!!"  Am I wrong in thinking this?

And by the way, prayer out of schools is a good thing.  So leave it alone.

It's things like this that make me wonder how the human race has survived for so long.

"Your Silly"

At least I know how to spell.  I know the difference between "your" and "you're", and when to use each word.  I know that the only word that is capitalized in sentenced is the first word and certain pronouns and proper nouns.  I also know that sentences end with periods.

Guess I'm not so "silly".

I'm beginning to wonder if you're intentionally trying to be an idiot, or if it just comes naturally.

Way to respond like a normal, sensible human being.

With you know...thought.

Oklahoma Howdy to AAAA,

There is a reasonable solution for all, one that we had for almost 200 years. Public schools were Christian schools with Bibles on every desk. Those that didn't like it went to private schools. Your school taxes might be able to fund that, but I'm sure we would be happy to subsidize it. Then we would all be happy. Let us know if this makes you happy and we'll get the ball rolling.

Well we have a pretty good system now, I think.  There is education in school, and that's it.  If you go to public school, you get an education.  If you wish for a religious education as well, you go to church.  Should you wish to kill two birds with one stone, you go to private school.

School is for education.

Church is for religious education.

Everyone must learn the former...but only those who wish should learn the latter.

Oklahoma Howdy to AAAAmember,

That would be only your opinion, opposite from the opinion of the vast majority. I believe this is part of what's wrong with this country today. Too many pass the buck when it comes to the important subjects in education (i.e. morals, values, ethics, right, wrong, principles, and other Biblical teaching). I say that the school, the Church, and the parents should all be doing that job. A comparison between the American society of 1940 and now is like comparing a cartoon with a porn movie. Many other things came with the moral decline that have an equally shocking comparison (i.e. crime rates, murder, suicide, teen pregnancy, and on, and on). If it was an experiment with society, it failed in a horrible way.

Knowing how to read or do math is of little importance if the person is either doped out of their mind or sitting in prison because nobody taught little Johnny right from wrong.

I agree--Mr. Ambassador4Christ.  I wish that the morals and values that were taught in school, came back.  I feel that we would have a strong, focused nation.  (not that we need to divide nations anymore, but to return to what America was founded on)  And now that I think about it.. they had such strong values back then because they did allow the Bible and prayer into schools.

Now, I feel like teachers are teaching worldly materialistic values. "I can't teach because I don't have any supplies.  I need new books.  I need more..."

Teachers use to only need a chalkborad and the knowledge that is in their heads.  And from there, they made students think.  Now, it seems like they want to just barely pass by in classes and move the students on, instead of making students think/brainstorm/and grow as well rooted people of God.

It seems to me that the 14% of people who would rather not have God or the Word in our schools, should listen and allow such values in schools.  They should realize that there is a good and a bad (common sense?--maybe not) and that to grow into well-rounded, prosperous individuals, we need to know these things--not avoid them.  They should sit back and listen and try to understand just a little bit.  Especially this day in age: We need to be awake!!

God Bless.

"I wish that the morals and values that were taught in school, came back."

Morals and values are taught at home (or for those who need help, taught in church), not in school.  They are merely reinforced at school, with things such as honesty, hard work, etc.  If a child has no morals, it is the parents' fault, not the teacher's fault.

"Now, I feel like teachers are teaching worldly materialistic values. 'I can't teach because I don't have any supplies.  I need new books.  I need more...'"

Are you a teacher?  No?  Then please be quiet.  My mother is a teacher; you insult her by saying that she can only teach with "wordly materialistic values".  Not true!!

"Teachers use to only need a chalkborad and the knowledge that is in their heads."

How ignorant.  Teachers need more than just a piece of chalk (which you forgot to include), a chalkboard (which you misspelled), and knowledge to teach.  My knowledge of AP Chemistry would have been limited last year had I not been able to perform laboratory experiments, all which require chemicals and laboratory equipment.

"Now, it seems like they want to just barely pass by in classes and move the students on, instead of making students think/brainstorm/and grow as well rooted people of God."

There you go again...insulting a profession which you know nothing about!  I don't know what teachers you're talking about, but mine did an excellent job in encouraging me to think and becoming a good student.  As for the God stuff, that belongs in the church.

"It seems to me that the 14% of people who would rather not have God or the Word in our schools, should listen and allow such values in schools. "

No - the law says we don't have to.  School is for learning.  Church is for God.  Non-Christian students attend school.  Christian students attend school and church.  I don't see how this isn't enough for you guys!!

"They should realize that there is a good and a bad (common sense?--maybe not) and that to grow into well-rounded, prosperous individuals, we need to know these things--not avoid them.  They should sit back and listen and try to understand just a little bit.  Especially this day in age: We need to be awake!!"

I am aware of good and bad.  I have morals.  I know these things, and I do not avoid them.  I don't want to "sit back" and listen to something that I do not believe in.  Go to church if you wish to hear about God.  School is for learning.

I think you need to get rid of your ignorance about the teaching profession before you go criticizing public school.

The goals of (state) education aren't set by teachers, but by society. While teachers do have some input into that debate, ultimately they are employees of the system.

Society sets competing goals for education, which are always in tension.  Labaree (1997) describes these as Democratic Equality (producing good citizens, which might include morals and or religion), Social Efficiency (equiping students with the skills needed by the workforce) and Social Mobility (giving each individual student the best chance of getting ahead in life).  Currently the last of those is the predominant driving force in education in the US (according to Labaree) and I would think in most western countries.   Teacher's have no choice but to respond to these demands.

And now that I think about it.. they had such strong values back then because they did allow the Bible and prayer into schools.
Not because they read their bibles at home then?
Schools cannot fix society's problems.

Try teaching mathematics without good quality textbooks, manipulatables and other resources.  Try teaching IT without computers.  Try teaching science without a lab.  Try teaching English without literature.
