Russian Tale Sees Orthodox Harry Potter Reject Magic for Cross and Holy Water Created: 09.09.2005 16:52 MSK (GMT +3), Updated: 16:52 MSK, 12 hours 16 minutes ago MosNews According to the new Harry Potter story, written in Ufa in Russia’s republic of Bashkortostan, the young magician Potter is now an Orthodox Christian and looks down on the magic tricks he used to work. The story is a Sunday school’s attempt to explain to children that magic is bad, and faith is good, the Komsomolskaya Pravda daily reported. “Harry Potter’s Repentance” has a simple plot. In the battle of good against evil the evil forces win, and Harry is the only one left to save the situation. His teacher Dumbledore dies, but before he dies he tells Harry he regrets becoming a magician and instructs him to find the one, who created everything. Harry Potter then meets an Orthodox priest who explains to him who created everything. After that the two of them deal with the evil forces by means of holy water, a cross and a prayer. “Children believe in Harry Potter,” one of the tale’s authors Maria Leonova told the paper. “After reading the Harry Potter books they get interested in magic, want to learn to do it. So we decided to explain that any magic is unacceptable, it is a turn towards the dark forces, not to God,” she said. Meanwhile, the Ufa story ends well: the young magician repents and accepts Christianity. ...Ok then. Carry on. Title: Re:Harry Potter Reject Magic for Cross and Holy Water Post by: JudgeNot on September 30, 2005, 07:23:36 PM That's actually kind of interesting. Who would be "Harry Potter-like" from our Christian heritage? Who would a “Christian Harry Potter” be modeled after? Daniel? Certainly the disciples’ regularly performed miracles.
I read somewhere (puulleeeese don’t make me go back and verify this…) that in the Koran as well as in some early Christian writings that were not included in the Bible, there is a story of Jesus as a boy modeling doves from clay, and when He clapped His hands the doves came to life and flew away. How would that be for “Harry Potter-like”? :) Title: Re:Harry Potter Reject Magic for Cross and Holy Water Post by: Soldier4Christ on September 30, 2005, 10:41:46 PM Quote (puulleeeese don’t make me go back and verify this…) A new ruling J/N ..... you have to go back and verify this. ;D ;D ;D ;) ;) ;) Seriously, One of the places this story is found is in the apocryphal Infancy Gospel of Thomas: When this child Jesus was five years old, he was playing at the ford of a stream... He made soft clay and modeled twelve sparrows from it... Jesus clapped his hands and cried to the sparrows, 'Be gone.' And the sparrows flew off chirping. (Infancy Gospel of Thomas, 2-4) This is the source that Muhammad used for his writing in the Quran: 3:49 [Then Jesus says to the children of Israel:] "I will make a bird for you out of clay, then breathe into it and, with God’s permission, it will become a real bird" . . . (Haleem) . . . y My leave, you [Jesus] fashioned the shape of a bird out of clay, breathed into it, and it became, by My leave, a bird . . .
