Title: the new movie--war of the worlds
Post by: RachelRH on July 04, 2005, 12:45:00 PM
Has anyone seen this movie? Oh my goodness. I saw it last nite, and I don't know what to say about it. It is like nothing I have ever seen or dreamt before in my entire life. I want to go see it again, I don't know why, but there is a message in it, to do with family and love at the end, and during the movie as well. But, gosh, it is hard to describe what was going thru my mind while I was watching it.

Maybe it hit too close to home. Maybe it reminded me of what is yet to come, when Jesus will return and the people that will be left behind. I don't have an opinion about aliens, I don't know enough about them to say I believe in them or not, but I really enjoyed this movie.

Hugs,
Rachel H (i am New)

One more thing...

Is there a website where Christian movie watchers critique the movies? I don't know what to think of this movie, and just wondering what other Christians had to say. I am eager to hear what everyone else here thought of it, if they have seen it.

Hi Rachel and welcome to CU.  No, I did not see this movie and won't, because T.C. is a scientologist.  I'd rather give that $10.00 to feed someone.  These scientologists believe the earth was inhabited 75 million years ago by aliens and that they're coming back.  I guess we're supposed to be their experiment.  What garbage!

Grace and peace,
cris

So...you won't see a potentially good movie because the main actor doesn't believe the same thing you do? Nice protest. Though it sounds a bit...close-minded to me.

Ok, it sounds really close-minded to me. And it's not like by giving him your ten dollars (which, after deductions, would probably only amount to about $1.00, if even that) you're saying you believe the same thing as him.

I personally can't wait to see it. It looks amazing.

It is better to be close minded than to allow evil to freely step in and it is better to fill someones stomach than to appease ones wandering mind with fantasy for a short period.

Wow, now that is playing semantics to the max. It is completely possible to be open-minded without letting "evil step in," as you say.

That depends upon what you are opening your mind to.

Precisely. So what's the problem, exactly?

???

Ahh, Sapph!    You can be a young breath of fresh air.  Then other times you are the absolute personification of the teenage mindset.

When I was young I was fearless, too.  Now, however, the things I’ve witnessed over the years make me wary and defensive.  It’s way easier for me, now, to just avoid Satan whenever possible, rather than battling him.  Now days he just sees my backside as I stroll away from him.  (Politics aside.)   ;D

Sapph - I haven’t typed at you or heard from you in a while – sure hope you’re well.

God bless,
JN

Of which I'm proud of both. ;D

Yeah, I'm fine. I've been more of a lurker here in the past month or so. No topics have really caught my attention, and as you know, I'm not one for creating topics. 'Cause I'm lazy.

Actually, I'm leaving with my youth group to Taiwan on Sunday for two weeks. I'm pumped; we're going to talk to the youth there and find out exactly what their mindset on topics such as religion are, so Alliance Youth Mission can build a youth-focused church there.

So that's what's up with me.

And I apologize for hijacking this topic. *Hands it back to Rachel.*

I have seen the original 1950 version of "War of the worlds".

George Pal who used puppet animation and is mostly noted for that type of cartoon, "George Pal Puppetoons" in the thirties, forties and fifties produced the movie and used this form of animation for the FX.

If I know Hollywood the original is probably better than the remake. I have not seen it.

I agree with Chris on the star. Only for a different reason. Why should a Christian support a proponent of adultery?

If you've seen any of about 90-95% of big-screen movies, then you're already guilty of doing so.
Very profound. The evils of motion pictures in the 21st century discovered. You forgot all the other mass media entertainments in the world.
I don;t view 90-95% of movies.

Ahhhh.... the wonders of Hollywood!!! I do NOT go to the movies. Are you kidding me? You may go to one that's "viewable", but what about the other 6 trash movies being shown by the particular theater? Your $10 support of the one movie goes towards support of the other trash being shown.

And don't get me started on Hollwood!!! Did The Passion of the Christ not teach you anything? Did you not see the persecution of Mel Gibson by the Hollywood Liberal extremes? And Mel really shoved it in their face because of the success of his movie when no Hollywood producer would back his movie.

All I've seen out of Hollywood is filth, utter filth. Every second movie is about homosexuals, or filled with violence, and of course, the gratuitous sex.

Personally, I rent movies because I can read about them before watching them. It helps me weed out the garbage. I recently saw a movie called "Luther", which is about Martin Luther. It's viewable, but believe it or not, it still contains some language.

Then there are the"surprises". Like a movie called "The Priest", (or somethnig like it). Supposed to be about a priest who is struggling with his faith. I put it in, and within minutes a couple of priest are "going at it". I don't think my arm has ever moved so fast for the stop button on the remote.

Then, recently, I rented "Constantine". Supposedly about an excorcist casting out demons. Don't waste your money.

Naw. If you want to watch movies, go to your local Christian book store and get them there. You'll get many more "hits" than misses.

I go to very few movies, also.  Can probably count the number on one hand in the last 20 years.................and they were the Star Wars ones.  The others that I can think of were The Passion of the Christ and China Cry.......both Christian.  I really would rather watch a made for TV movie or the news channels...............and they're free. ;)

Hope you are doing OK Zak.  I just read something the other day that's supposed to be helpful for diabetics...tart cherries.  They are available in capsule form.  Guess one needs to take them this way, as one would have to eat way too many cherries to get the benefit.

Grace and peace,
cris

I saw War of the Worlds a few weeks ago.  I have to say I was pretty disappointed in it.  It did have some exciting parts, but it had some pretty gross parts that I would have rather not seen.
