Source: Faith Walk Scripture Reference John 10:1-23 2 Chronicles 1 A Priceless Word Picture 2 Chronicles 1-3, John 10:1-23 Key Verses: John 10:11 If a picture is worth a thousand words, then how much is a word picture worth? When it communicates the message Jesus has for us, it is of inestimable worth. A priceless word picture is found in John 10, that of the shepherd and his sheep. Most of us have little experience with sheep. In fact, most of what we know is secondhand information gathered from lessons taught at church, maybe from Psalm 23. We are like sheep and Jesus is the Good Shepherd. We are the wanderers and He is the finder, keeper and protector. Take this part of the word picture-a man dying, intentionally, for animals. Hard to imagine, yet it is the image that Jesus used to describe what He did on Calvary. Willingly, on purpose, the shepherd is described as one who "'lays down his life for the sheep'" (v. 11). Let those familiar words sink in for a minute. The finder, keeper and protector of the wanderers died on purpose, with purpose, for us. Death can be striking. It catches our attention, making us pause and reflect. The death of Jesus occurred nearly 2,000 years ago, but it should still catch our attention. We like to talk about salvation being free. That is true-but what was free to us came at tremendous cost. The price paid was the life of the Good Shepherd. Quietly reflect on this tremendous truth-Christ died for you. Then thank Him for paying the price. You had a debt you could not pay, and He paid a debt He did not owe. "Thank You, Jesus." _________________________ This devotional is freely distributed by Back To The Bible. Did you enjoy this devotional? Send it on for a friend to enjoy. I have never been able to truely understand why He wanted to do that. The Passion of Christ fim, showing how he hung there in pain and hour after hour after hour. Critizied, spat on, made fun of, rediculed whipped 'til flesh was ripping off his back...OOOOOOOOOOHHHHhhhhh, what love. That's love. Love we don't even show to one another. We say we love God, but your brother and sister you see everyday do you love them. Jesus got the message out. Did we catch on to what He was truely saying. Do you love me, can you love me...then feed my people. White, Black, Japanese, Chinese, Cuban, Mexican, French, Russian, Deutsche, Swiz, Irish, Scotish, Vietanamese, Spanish, Armeanian, Assyrian, Jew, Arab..uhoh yes! Arab, Jesus died that we ALL might have life and that more abundantly. No, all souls will not go to heaven, but not one jot, or tittle of His word will go unheard. He said it, and will perform it. It's in His word, His word stands solid. Title: Re:A Priceless Word Picture Post by: nChrist on May 29, 2005, 09:32:37 AM Amen Inspiration!
That's exactly what JESUS did for us. The JUST for the unjust - HE rescued us and set us free from the curse of sin and death. Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable GIFT, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour Forever! Love In Christ, Tom Romans 5:1-2 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. |
