Title: For the grieving
Post by: Whitehorse on July 11, 2003, 07:59:09 PM
I read a really great book by C.S. Lewis called, A Grief Observed. It deals with the death of his wife who had cancer. A very poignant and honest work-I recommend it highly.

Yes, WH, "poignant" is the word.  A very good book to read.  From the heart.

I think a movie was also made about it--Debra Winger and...--I forget who played Lewis....

Did you know Lewis died the day JFK was shot?  Just a side note I remembered.

Yes-the movie Shadowlands. Anthony Hopkis stars with Debra Winger. What a heartbreaking movie-done so well, though. I didn't know that about CS Lewis dying on the same day as JFK. That's so sad.

Oooooooo Yes! Whitehorse, thank you!  That's it, "Shadowlands".  Funny how the names of things actually become what they imply--the title had slipped into the "shadows" of my mind.

And Anthony HOpkins.  Before he apparently went too weird with some of his more recent films.

The area where I live has several rental places, but the genre is blood/sex/gore.  So imagine my surpise when that one appeared on the shelves.  A pleasant or nice change.

But of course the book is still definitely the way to go.  As you say, good for those grieving.  Contemplative, thoughtful, careful.
