;D  What irritates you the most and why? Finally, here's your chance to vent your frustration.   ;D

;D  What irritates you the most and why? Finally, here's your chance to vent your frustration.   ;D

We used to get salesmen/women coming to our door to try and get us to sign up for "cheap" natural gas. They offered gas at a set price over a two year term. They were very pushy, and that really aggravates me. They were also dishonest about the terms. In Canada, we get a rebate if gas goes over a certain price, and your income is under a specific base. The fine print (and I'm talking micro type) stated that the gas provider would receive all and any rebates which would be paid to the customer - they never mentioned this. They would ask to see a copy of your last gas bill YA RIGHT!

I never buy anything from a door salesman - if I want something, I go out and get it. I always say "not interested" and shut the door before the double talk even begins. My wife is beginning to get the hang of it!

These guys came around incessantly! two to four times a month, a different gas provider salesman would come knocking. I warned them many times to quit, but they kept coming.

After we moved into our new home, we were relieved to finally be rid of them - then one day the phone rang - yup, it was them! I nearly exploded! I told them not to call again, and guess what? Ya, they called again, and again. The last time they called, I told the guy I was very busy, and asked if he would give me his home number so I could call him there when I was free. He said no, and I said - "Oh, how foolish of me - you probably don't want to be bothered at home!" there was silence for about five seconds before I hung up!

Advertising, because it can be so manipulative, and the people who are dumb enough to believe it (especially when it's so obviously untrue or warped).

Brothers and Sisters,

;D  Thanks, I needed those laughs. I'm making a list.

Bronzesnake, I had forgotten about door-to-door sales folks. It sounds like you have a creative answer for telephone sales, but you might need to work on your methods for folks at the door. Maybe you could record some yelling like "Who's at the door?", record the sound of a revving chain-saw with it, and try it.   ;D

Sister Chris, I've heard about folks who get a rash from wool, but getting a rash from arrogant people is a new one.   :D  There are so many arrogant people almost everywhere now that you probably keep a rash continuously.

Sapphire, I thought that all advertising was true, and I'm disappointed.   ;D

Love In Christ,
Tom

Phone solicitations.  I gravely dislike them.  So much so that I put myself on the national "DO NOT CALL" list.  So now, instead of people trying to sell me things, I get called by people wanting me to take a short survey... >:(

I did have one fun call once though.  A guy called and wanted to sell me a new roof.  I was in a good mood, so I went along with the entire sales pitch.  When it came to the payment portion I told him he'd have to call our apartment complex for that one.  Strangely, he hung up.   ;D

I don't mind the telephone solicitors too much.  I used to tell them I am sorry that they could not find a better job.  Lately, I have been getting calls from some very very polite people.  I do not mind talking to them at all.  Maybe they actually enjoy their jobs.

What irritates me?  There is a man who sings and plays guitar in the subway station.  I just can't stand his voice.  It's not that he is really awful but just something in the timbre.  I have to walk by with my fingers in my ears.  I can't help feeling it is so rude but his singing makes me want to scream "shut up".  (He must be from that juicy fruit chewing gum commercial).

Ah, yes...the "short survey" people...  ::)
Yesterday I got a call from someone who wanted my money...I used to just get letters from these people, but I guess they figured letters are too easy to tear in half and throw away...its hard to rip a telemarketer in half...I tried to get off the phone before they got into their pitch, and they talked faster, so I got this mysterious sickly, urgent tone in my voice (where did that come from?), and they must have thought I was dying of the Flu or having a baby, because they only called twice.

Willowbirch,

Yes, we've had the survey and political people. In fact, my wife and I counted almost 40 calls in one week. My wife is a Democrat and I'm a Republican, so we get hit by all of them. We couldn't count the number of $1,000 to $50,000 a plate dinners we've been invited to, but we had to settle for hamburger helper.   :D  YES!, we did have hamburger meat, so it wasn't helper helper.

We are on the National and State no telephone soliciting lists, but that doesn't apply to politicians or political parties. SO, the politicians took control over our phone several times this year. That's why I voted for politicians as what irritates me.   :D

There are about 15 items left out of that list, lol :)

Salesman here in Florida-must be some outbreak, they come visit me each week @ my business trying to convince me into buying vacuums, talking teddy bears, life insurance, magazines! It is INCREASINGLY annoying!!

Telephone solicitors because It's my private phone number! They call and interrupt my personal time at home with my family. If I need a home loan, my carpets cleaned, or any number of other things chances are I'll pick up the phone book and call someone who provides the service, I will not sit around the house and hope one calls me! I can not imagine they get much business this way.

Ali Katt,

First, I don't think that I've had a chance to welcome you to Christians Unite, SO WELCOME!!!

I think that your vote just put telephone solicitors in the lead.   :D

I think that most people are just like you, but I guess that enough people buy things from telephone solicitors to keep them in business. I buy what I need from local people that I trust, and I call or visit them when I'm ready.

Love In Christ,
Tom

Agreed- I live in Florida, need I say more?
The accidents here are insane.....How it never fails to surprise me hearing that a 93 year old man behind the wheel was to blame for some 5 car pile up.
Even more irritating (relating to "Stupid" drivers) those who feel the need to be talking on the cell phone, applying make up with one hand & a book in the other.....

Let's see...i have a few things that irritate me...lol.

1) Some people should have their pictures taken off of their liscenses and their licenses revoked. I almost had a head on collision with someone who was trying to do a u-turn on a blame HILL that has a BEND in it!! So I didn't see her until I was right on top of her and this was YESTERDAY...lol.

2) People who put up fronts. It irritates me when people will put up fronts because they don't want to discuss anything or fix the problems. They just want to sit and mope in their depression. Then I have to find some way of tearing down the walls, without hurting them in the process. If you want help, talk, I enjoy breaking down walls, but I hate doing it if it can be avoided.

3) People who go to drugs to fix their problems instead of working it out themselves or relying on someone to help them. There are trained professionals to help with certain issues.

4) People who give criticism without knowing the whole circumstances behind what they are criticising. For example, I recently was told by my pastor that he would like to read my Sermon and look over it before I preached it because someone in the Congregation had a concern with what I preached. I told him, jokingly i might add, "What if I wanna keep it a secret?", and he said "And it may be the last time you preach in that pulpit." I'm 17 years old and mature enough to sit down and talk with the person who has that concern. If they have criticism and wish to come and talk with me one-on-one, then I will sit and listen with them. If it's something with my delivery that I can fix, I'll do that, however, if it's something Scriptural, I can't change Scripture to suit them.

5) People who don't take good advice when it's given to them because the consequences of their actions will far outweigh any good that will come of it. For example, I have a friend and last week was spring break. She's one of my Fellowship of Christian Atheletes Officers. Well, before she went to the beach, I told her, now don't you go down there and do something stupid. I know how things go down and the beach during spring break. Keep your nose clean. Well turns out, she got drunk and called one of my other friends to drive 2 hours to pick her up because she didn't know where she was at. I told her what could have happened, but she didn't listen.

6) People who complain about doing a job in the church. I'm not saying this to down anyone, but, at my church, we have a few people who think they need to do everything that comes out of the church. It's as if they treat it as a job. At the Youth planning meeting, all I hear is complaining about how one or two don't have enough time for the meeting and that they are soo busy. There is simply no joy that i'm seeing from it. So I told them at the last meeting, if you're called to this position, stay, if not, then leave. If you're going to see the Lord's work as a JOB, and you're not called to do this, then don't stay, but don't complain if you think you have too much on your plate. If it's meant to be done, the Lord will bring someone qualified to do the job, and someone who will do it without griping or complaining.

Well, those are the 5 I can think of at this moment...lol. Thanks for reading. God Bless

Joshua

AMEN BROTHER JOSHUA!

The Lord's work is a joy, not a duty. Yielding to the LORD in joy and love leads to many spiritual blessings that most don't understand or know. The rewards in this life are a joy and peace that must be experienced to understand. There is also a greater and sweeter fellowship with JESUS, and we still haven't talked about the eternal yet.

Love In Christ,
Tom

Yup.
Silver's got it:  Slow cars in the fast lane.  Drives me nuts.  That's why I ride the train to work.  :)

Oh - and then there are the commuters on the train who are obviously sick (coughing & sneezing) spreading their sickness to the world - now THAT is irritating...

Hmmm.  I guess I should just stay home!  :D

Up by me, a pedestrian was struck by at least five cars or more...no one bothered to stop, no one knows who hit her first, and so far the body is unidentified...and I'm more or less in the country!

Some one that claims to be a Christian:

- that angrily snaps at a store clerk for being too slow.

- that is to busy to stop and help a small child that is definitely in trouble.

- that is to busy to give a simple smile to someone who is down and out.

- that doesn't have the patience to help a non-christian to understand the Grace of God.

- that just simply refuses to help an elderly or handicapped person.

- that spreads maliscious rumours about others.

- that cause major splits in churches.

- that sees a person that needs help with groceries or ?? and says I don't have the money to help then goes out and buys a very expensive motor boat or a third or fourth TV, VCR, etc.

I could go on with many, many more. It all boils down to those claiming to be Christians and not at least trying to be Christ like.

Brothers and Sisters,

It sounds like there has been some fairly good and recent inspiration for the "what irritates you" poll. Maybe we need to add a few categories.

I'll add false prophets and false ministries,  especially those that prey upon elderly people. I'm thinking about some elderly people  who go without their medicine to support con men living in luxury.

These last few entries have been pretty sad and really beyond irritation.

Evangelist:
Question - do all false professors know they are false? (Can someone be lost when they really believe they are saved?)

I think it's an interesting question - perhaps one for another thread - but I thought I'd ask...
