Title: A Good Athlete... Post by: Brother Love on July 10, 2003, 06:33:17 AM A good athlete is a person who dedicates himself to do the best of his ability in his sport. His regimen includes rigorous exercise, careful diet, concentration, and constant practice. He must abstain from things that would hinder his performance in any way. In other words, he must be fit for the task at hand.
We should have the attitude of a good athlete in our worship and service of God. We ought to com-pete like good athletes, serve like good soldiers, and work like good farmers (2 Timothy 2:3-6). In order to honor our Lord and be honorable vessels, we must separate ourselves from evil "If a man, therefore, purge himself from these (dishonorable things), he shall be a vessel unto honor, sanctified, and fit for the Master's use, and prepared unto every good work" ( 2 Timothy 2:21). We are exhorted to abhor evil, abstain from every form of evil, flee evil, and not be overcome by evil (Rom. 12:9, 21; 1 Thessalonians 5:22; 1 Timothy 6:11). As we abstain from evil, we are to overcome evil with good, pursue and hold fast to that which is good, be examples of good works, and not grow weary in doing good (Romans 12:21; 1Thessalonians 5:21; 2 Thessalonians 3:13; 1 Tim. 6:12; Titus 2:7, 8). God has provided everything we need in order to put aside evil and be vessels of honor. Christ is in us, we are sealed by the Holy Spirit, and we have the completed Word which is the power of God (Ephesians 6:10-17; 2 Timothy 3:16, 17; 2 Peter 1:3). May we, by the grace of God, be fit for the Master's use, and do all things in the Name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father. Brother Love :) Title: A Good Athlete...
