Title: Need help identifying these objects, Please.
Post by: Shammu on December 29, 2004, 12:40:01 AM
I need help identifying these objects. Sorry about the topic name. I know they were made before 1938.

Material: Rectangular non-magnetic silver-colored metal plate with non-magnetic copper-colored screw.

Weight: approximately .2 oz.

Condition: Good. Bent.

Speculation: This appears to be fastener intended for the same purpose as 2-6-S-03a but of slightly different design and somewhat heavier construction. In this case the surface to which the plate was attached seems to have rotated ninety degrees with sufficient force to bend the plate.

Material: Disk-shaped, non-magnetic silver-colored metal plate with non-magnetic copper-colored screw.

Weight: approximately .1 oz.

Condition: Good.

Speculation: This is a low-tech fastener intended for a very specific purpose. The screw appears to be a wood screw and the teeth may be designed to bite into wood and prevent to rotation of the plate which is attached to a surface by means of some kind of pin that goes through the hole in the plate.

Thank you.
Bob

Sorry DW, can't tell you exactly what it is but I have seen devices similar to this on antique cabinets and jewelry boxes that would lock a removable panel or mirror in place.

 ???

They do look like one half of small clasps that are found on jewelry boxes and other small containers. The hole being for a very, very tiny padlock to go through and the other mating half. Some diaries and journal books also have this.

They also have the appearance of terminals to which a wire might be soldered. Perhaps too small, however and would not have a wood screw, but metal to go into metal chassis. A wood screw might be used on a printed circuit board.

Hmmm...

I would say those items are a penny, a ruler, and a wood screw.    ;D

LOL...just kidding!

I have no clue what the serious items in question might be.  :-\

Grace and Peace!

DW, I just repaired an antique music box this morning that has a similar object in it. The teeth are driven by a gear that makes it swing back and forth. Where the hole in yours is, mine has a brass pin in it that makes and breaks a pendulum on the device for moving a doll on top. I suppose this could also be in an antique clock that has a pendulum in it?
