Title: News vs. Faith
Post by: Symphony on December 25, 2004, 10:26:40 PM

Our world today is all about information.  News.  Constant, unstoppable, relentless news.

I was just thinking about how contrary to our daily walk in faith, news actually seems to be.

Of course, the "Gospel" is exactly that - news, although it definitely is GOOD news.

But what the world has to offer is just news.  Sometimes it is "good"; most of it, though, is either routine, or bad news.

But more than that, this news of the world, is carnal, earthy, sensual - related to what we see, and hear.

It has very little to speak to the soul, as the Good News does.

My thinking then, is that so much of what comes in over the wires and waves, is contrary to our inner sense of "knowing" - or our "faith", in Jesus...

Much news today is not news at all, but opinion on what should just be reported as news.

Also this preoccupation with weather and treating every rain or snow like it is the end of the world is very disconcerting.

Thank the Lord for His good news. Pray for those deliverers of bad worldly news always on the negative side and the ones that create this negativety.

This last snowstorm in parts of the U.S. on the 23rd was devastating to many people.  The insurance companies can't handle all the claims--------they're calling it catastrophic. If you were in one of these states, then you'd understand why it feels like the end of the world to some people.  Actually, the news hasn't reported enough on it.

It was the end of the world for 11,000+ people in the Indonesian area. This happened without much if any warning. It is a reminder to be ready for we know not the time.

I was just thinking how empty all the news is, though.

And our reactions to it.

We hear "news"; if it's relevant to us, like the bitterly cold temperatures cris refers to(it was seven below zero where I live), then we respond accordingly - if we can.  In my case I minimize going out; if I do, I wear extra clothes, etc.

But all news is only concerned with how we react to it.  It doesn't do anything for us.  All it does is garner a reaction.

The good news of faith in Jesus is very different.

AMEN! Symphony

As you know, I follow the news from all over the world. Not just here in the USA, but everywhere. I can see God's hand making things happen in this ole world. ;D
