Title: Feel Like Singing Christmas Music? Post by: Patzt on December 01, 2004, 04:49:37 PM (http://christianphotographers.com/forum/graphics/hollybar.gif) Away in a Manager (http://www.christianphotographers.com/sounds/christmas/awayin.mid) (Click to hear music) She gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped Him in cloths and placed Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Luke 2:7 Words: Verses 1 & 2, anonymous, in Little Children?s Book for Schools and Families, by J. C. File (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: Evangelical Lutheran Church in North America, 1885). Some sources show the author as Martin Luther; this attribution (probably incorrect) is based on the title "Luther's Cradle Hymn," given to these words by the composer, James Murray, in his Dainty Songs for Little Lads and Lasses (Cincinnati, Ohio: The John Church Co., 1887). Verse 3 is by John Thomas McFarland (1851-1913) Music: "Mueller," James R. Murray, 1887 Away in a manger, no crib for a bed, The little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet head. The stars in the sky looked down where He lay, The little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay. The cattle are lowing, the Baby awakes, But little Lord Jesus, no crying He makes; I love Thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky And stay by my cradle til morning is nigh. Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay Close by me forever, and love me, I pray; Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care, And fit us for heaven to live with Thee there. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. Luke 2:8-9 Words & Music: Traditional English carol, possibly dating from as early as the 13th Century The first Noel the angel did say Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay; In fields where they lay tending their sheep, On a cold winter's night that was so deep. Refrain Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, Born is the King of Israel. They looked up and saw a star Shining in the east, beyond them far; And to the earth it gave great light, And so it continued both day and night. Refrain And by the light of that same star Three Wise Men came from country far; To seek for a King was their intent, And to follow the star wherever it went. Refrain This star drew nigh to the northwest, Over Bethlehem it took its rest; And there it did both stop and stay, Right over the place where Jesus lay. Refrain Then did they know assuredly Within that house the King did lie; One entered it them for to see, And found the Babe in poverty. Refrain Then entered in those Wise Men three, Full reverently upon the knee, And offered there, in His presence, Their gold and myrrh and frankincense. Refrain Between an ox stall and an ass, This Child truly there He was; For want of clothing they did Him lay All in a manger, among the hay. Refrain Then let us all with one accord Sing praises to our heavenly Lord; That hath made heaven and earth of naught, And with His blood mankind hath bought. Refrain If we in our time shall do well, We shall be free from death and hell; For God hath prepared for us all A resting place in general. She wrapped Him in cloths and placed Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Luke 2:7 Words: Josiah G. Holland, The Marble Prophecy and Other Poems, 1872 Music: Christmas Song, Karl P. Harrington, 1904 There's a song in the air! There's a star in the sky! There's a mother's deep prayer and a baby's low cry! And the star rains its fire while the beautiful sing, For the manger of Bethlehem cradles a King! There's a tumult of joy o'er the wonderful birth, For the virgin's sweet Boy is the Lord of the earth. Ay! the star rains its fire while the beautiful sing, For the manger of Bethlehem cradles a King! In the light of that star lie the ages impearled; And that song from afar has swept over the world. Every hearth is aflame, and the beautiful sing In the homes of the nations that Jesus is King! We rejoice in the light, and we echo the song That comes down through the night from the heavenly throng. Ay! we shout to the lovely evangel they bring, And we greet in His cradle our Savior and King! Post by: Patzt on December 13, 2004, 09:28:29 PM (http://christianphotographers.com/forum/graphics/hollybar.gif) I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day (http://www.christianphotographers.com/sounds/christmas/iheard.mid) (Click to hear music) Suddenly there was with the angel a great company of the heavenly host, praising God and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth, peace, good will toward men. Luke 2:13-14 Words: Henry W. Longfellow, 1864 Music: John B. Calkin, 1872 I heard the bells on Christmas day Their old familiar carols play, And wild and sweet the words repeat Of peace on earth, good will to men. And thought how, as the day had come, The belfries of all Christendom Had rolled along the unbroken song Of peace on earth, good will to men. Till ringing, singing on its way The world revolved from night to day, A voice, a chime, a chant sublime Of peace on earth, good will to men. And in despair I bowed my head "There is no peace on earth," I said, "For hate is strong and mocks the song Of peace on earth, good will to men." Then pealed the bells more loud and deep: "God is not dead, nor doth He sleep; The wrong shall fail, the right prevail With peace on earth, good will to men." Your music posts have been a blessing. I have many favorites, Old Time Gospel, Southern Gospel Quartets..... The ones I miss the most are the ones my Grandmother used to sing. She was a lady from the Appalachian Mountains and used to sing in the old Appalachian folk style, from the heart. There were many songs and I can't seem to remember a single one of them anymore. :'( God bless you. Title: Re:Feel Like Singing Christmas Music? Post by: Patzt on December 18, 2004, 12:38:36 PM Ohhh, I'm so glad you've enjoyed some of the Christmas music. I was hesitant to post any after reading of so many on this site that don't celebrate Christmas and I didn't want to offend.
Thanks again for your comments. Title: Re:Feel Like Singing Christmas Music? Silent night, holy night, Shepherds quake at the sight; Glories stream from heaven afar, Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia! Christ the Savior is born, Christ the Savior is born! Silent night, holy night, Son of God, love?s pure light; Radiant beams from Thy holy face With the dawn of redeeming grace, Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth, Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people. For today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; He is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:10-11 Words & Music: Traditional English God rest ye merry, gentlemen, let nothing you dismay, Remember Christ our Savior was born on Christmas Day; To save us all from Satan?s power when we were gone astray. Refrain O tidings of comfort and joy, comfort and joy; O tidings of comfort and joy. In Bethlehem, in Israel, this blessed Babe was born, And laid within a manger upon this blessed morn; The which His mother Mary did nothing take in scorn. Refrain From God our heavenly Father a blessed angel came; And unto certain shepherds brought tidings of the same; How that in Bethlehem was born the Son of God by name. Refrain "Fear not, then," said the angel, "Let nothing you afright This day is born a Savior of a pure Virgin bright, To free all those who trust in Him from Satan's power and might." Refrain The shepherds at those tidings rejoiced much in mind, And left their flocks a-feeding in tempest, storm and wind, And went to Bethl?em straightaway this blessed Babe to find. Refrain But when to Bethlehem they came where our dear Savior lay, They found Him in a manger where oxen feed on hay; His mother Mary kneeling unto the Lord did pray. Refrain Now to the Lord sing praises all you within this place, And with true love and brotherhood each other now embrace; This holy tide of Christmas all others doth deface.
