But when Skerry Kerry looked, he said: " Well, if you're conservative, and I'm with you, you know, there's just 3, but I'm going to have my aides give the problem a thorough going-over and get back to you later....it could be that there are as few as 1, or as many as 7 or 8, but I do want you to know that I feel your pain, and I'm absolutely with you on whatever it takes so that YOU have the final right to choose whatever you like!" Title: Re:Brain game Post by: nChrist on October 27, 2004, 06:10:01 PM Evangelist,

Yes; the audience agrees, the answer is six. Six, six. Title: Re:Brain game Post by: Symphony on November 01, 2004, 10:53:07 PM Hmmm, I only count five.
FINISHED FILES ARE THE RE- SULT OF YEARS OF SCIENTIF- IC STUDY COMBINED WITH THE EXPERIENCE OF YEARS... and I've already violated any time limits - by far. :-\ *sigh* I waz alwayz the last one finishing tests, too. :P HMMMM. WAIT! THERE ARE SIX! I just now noticed another one in the 'ofs'. ::) Dumbkopf! How dumb can you get. ::) *sigh* And I've had to 'study' it too, at least four times, just to 'find' all six. *sigh* It's all for naught. I'm dumb. It's true. *sigh* :'( But it IS a good game. Actually a little sophisticated. How would you know it single out 'fs' as a letter people would repeatedly miss? Why do we miss them? Must have something to do with the way our lips pronounce them - linguistics. B/c the 'f' in 'of' is pronounced entirely different from the 'f' in 'files', so we miss it completely. Because we're 'lip' reading, when we try to find them. I'll betcha that's why. But TimV ain't here no mo, so we can't ask'm. :-[ :'( Title: Re:Brain game Post by: Soldier4Christ on November 02, 2004, 12:51:39 AM Hmmm, I only count five. Our minds for some reason pass over this type of word. Try writing a paragraph sometime using "of" frequently leaving it out in numerous occasions. Most people will not even realise that you left any out because their minds will assume it to be there. That was tough! Why is it one over looks the "f"s in "of" at first glance? 1FINISHED 2FILES ARE THE RE- SULT OF3 YEARS OF4 SCIENTIF5- IC STUDY COMBINED WITH THE EXPERIENCE OF6 YEARS... Post your answers. Title: Re:Brain game Post by: Symphony on November 03, 2004, 11:49:15 PM Pastor Roger above says it's because the ofs are skipped over by the eye; since the eye is trained to gather meaning from larger, significant words first. Also, I think it's because the eye is coordinating with the lips, phonetically, for the familiar phhht sound, as in 'files'; but the 'f' in 'of' isn't pronounced like that; it's pronounced as a 'v', as in 'uv', so the eye/lips doesn't pick it up. |
