Title: Mormom Crickets Post by: Alfie on June 18, 2003, 12:25:46 AM Read an article in the paper the other day about Mormon crickets moving there way West and devouring things along the way. I can't remember now whether they said they are in Nevada or Arizona. But I remember reading that the roads are covered with them and cars are actually sliding on the highways due to the numbers of these sleek little critters.
It also mentioned that they have not seen these crickets in such abundance since right before WW II. Sign of the times? It seems they got the name "Mormon" crickets from a story years back when the Mormons suffered an infestations of these things. The story goes that they prayed to God to help them in some way; their prayers were heard when flocks of seagulls came and apparently helped rid them of the problem. Anyone else heard anything on this? Hmm- just thinking. Said they're heading West and I'm in California. Nah, they'd never make it through these freeways ;D Alfie Title: Re:Mormom Crickets Post by: Seven_Tides on June 18, 2003, 12:31:37 AM Mormon Crickets, eh? Well, now that's different. Sign of the
times? Nah. I think it's a bit premature for "THAT". ;D ;D ;D Title: Re:Mormom Crickets Post by: Seven_Tides on June 18, 2003, 12:35:12 AM However, i find it interesting that they were found before WWII. I have never heard of these crickets, and I certainly
didn't know that something like this happened before WWII. Hey Alfie, which Newspaper did you get it from? The Los Angeles Times? I'm just asking- I'm curious. ;D And who would've thought Mormons, of all people, founded these crickets? Simply Amazing! ;D Title: Re:Mormom Crickets Post by: Wreck N Sow on June 19, 2003, 08:35:25 AM Hey
I saw somethin about that. The mormans claimed God sent seagulls to get rid of the crickets. I doubt that God would even listen to them as they killed a bunch of innocent people on their way to Utah who they thought might tell of their whereabouts Title: Re:Mormom Crickets Post by: Alfie on June 20, 2003, 04:59:40 PM Seven-Tides,
Not the LA Times, but one of our local newspapers. Can't remember if it was in the Californian or the Press Enterprise. Wreck N Sow, There is good and bad in everything. Needless to say, that goes for all religions. We have been hearing so much negative news about the Catholic Church and the priests, but as in everything we have some good priests that are committed to their vows. Alfie |
