Title: Competing Against the Opposite Sex Post by: BlackmanX on October 03, 2004, 08:45:29 PM I have entered a wrestling game with some guy and lady friends.
The girls wrestled the guys. The guys wrestled the guys. The girls wrestled the girls. It was all fun. When competing, I give it my best. It doesnt matter if I am competing against males or females. I am not out to destroy anyone, just compete while giving it my best. I first faced a boy named Matt and won. I faced a boy named Todd and lost. I faced a big girl named Alice and won. I faced a girl named Joanna and won. I faced a boy named Arthur and won. I learned later that a lot of the guys "let the girls" win. Also, some girls said they expected the guys to let them win. I told them all that i dont play that bullgotcha2. I compete against a man, let him give me his best and if I win, cool. If I lose, that's okay too. If I compete against a woman and win, cool. If I lose to a woman, okay. It's just a fun competition. I dont let anyone win. DO other guys and girls feel the way I do ? When I told the guys and the girls my policy on competition, they looked at me like I was strange. Is it because I am an "odd" male and somehow different from other males that I have this attitude ????? I'd completely agree with you. To be absolutely fair, you dont show any discretion to a person based on any criteria whatsoever...including sex. That's strict unbiased competition. The stong(men) were probably trying to be courteous to the weak(women) and the "gentleman" etiquette says the strong should give the weak a chance if the weak and strong both clearly know there isnt a challenge at all to this competition...in other words, what point would it be to have a challenge when the outcome is already known, the man would win. So males follow this because they want to be "gentleman" and some go by fair competition. Both are acceptable...i generally go by fair unbiased competition when it comes to the opposite sex. I dont care if the female gets hurt for losing and expecting to win...i'll just say she was a tough challenge and if she was a male..or stronger than me :-[...she surely wouldve won. ;D Title: Re:Competing Against the Opposite Sex Post by: Homeskillet on October 04, 2004, 12:21:12 AM I think if a woman places herself in a "man's" position then she should take the consequences like a man. This, from a woman ;D ;) I know when I was in ROTC (many moons ago) the rules were the same for us as they were for the guys and I liked it that way.
If I won a competition with lesser rules then did I really win? I would rather win fair and square than to think someone let me win or that I only won because I had different rules than anyone else. JMO. :) Title: Re:Competing Against the Opposite Sex Post by: Gracey on October 04, 2004, 08:03:00 AM I personally wouldn't enter a competition where men wrestled against women...just doesn't seem right.
But the concept of competing, whether man against man or man against woman is okay with me in other areas. I think if a woman wants to compete against a man (say, arm wrestling) then she competes under the same rules a man does. Equality. That doesn't mean you "let" anybody win...you do your best, each of you. Lots of women are physically stronger than men; lots aren't. The only concern I might have is someone getting hurt because they are not matched well physically and that can happen with men/men or men/women matches. :) Title: Re:Competing Against the Opposite Sex Post by: BlackmanX on October 04, 2004, 07:38:36 PM Thank you for your answers.
Title: Re:Competing Against the Opposite Sex Post by: sincereheart on October 06, 2004, 08:25:07 AM I've never understood why some women feel the need to compete against men. I've got nothing to prove in that area! ;D

Title: Re:Competing Against the Opposite Sex Post by: Symphony on October 06, 2004, 10:08:42 PM If I'm a Christian male, what am I doing wrestling a woman? Title: Re:Competing Against the Opposite Sex Post by: ChristNcharge on October 09, 2004, 07:12:36 PM I suppose there are several schools of thought for issues like this. Like you pointed out, there are two obvious positions you could take – either let a female win (for whatever reasons), or challenge her indiscriminately.
Another that might deserve consideration would be a refusal to accept the challenge. Whether or not you are comfortable with the idea of wrestling with a member of the opposite sex (I imagine the idea would not be TOO displeasing) wouldn’t really be the main concern – as far as a refusal on moral grounds would go. The simple fact of the nature of the physical contact is worthy of questioning, and that would be a good enough reason to object. I do not know how much attention this issue has received, compared to other “equality” issue – like women in the military for example, but it is an interesting topic indeed. I am sure that there is a chance that a refusal to accept to wrestle a female based on moral grounds may get you some attention. I remember a girl in my high school that stood up for something similar and the next thing you know… I was seeing her on MTV news! In any case… the choice is ultimately yours. Listen carefully to what the Spirit Speaks to you… and I’m sure you will handle each situation as appropriately as you can. May the Peace of Christ be with you. Jaime |
