Title: God speaks to me Post by: CrazyJim on September 20, 2004, 10:58:32 PM Apparently my last post got deleted because I linked to my homepage. So I should be ok to repost with no website right?
1)Sept 2003: I was down Pittsburgh, and I heard a voice that said,"Good News". It confused me, but I felt compeled to come home to my old church. 2)When I arrive home and held my dads hands inside the Church(he is grounds keeper, and just so happened to be there), and profess to him and God my love, he went up and brought me down a Bible, The Good News Bible. 3)I have never heard of this Bible before in my life, the "Good News" I was spoken to is manifested in physical form. HEAVY DUDE ;D Title: Re:God speaks to me Post by: MalkyEL on September 24, 2004, 06:32:47 PM I am curious as to why God would speak the Words "Good News" - which is the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and then make available to you, the The Good News Bible, which denies the Deity of Jesus. I am confused.

Where did you get that? Its simply another translation. I've read the King James, and the primary difference is that the Good News is easier to read in modern English. Nowhere does it deny Jesus Christ as Lord.
Get your facts straight. Title: Re:God speaks to me Post by: Gracey on September 30, 2004, 04:14:13 AM I have a Good News Bible...had it for a long time. I admit that I don't use it much, but I don't recall it denying Christ's deity.
(I will say, tho, it's not the version I rely on and I haven't used it for a long time). A small selection from the Good News Bible: Mat 3:16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he came up out of the water. Then heaven was opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God coming down like a dove and lighting on him. Mat 3:17 Then a voice said from heaven, "This is my own dear Son, with whom I am pleased." Mar 1:1 This is the Good News about Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Joh 10:30 The Father and I are one." Joh 1:1 In the beginning the Word already existed; the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Joh 1:2 From the very beginning the Word was with God. Joh 1:3 Through him God made all things; not one thing in all creation was made without him. Joh 1:4 The Word was the source of life, and this life brought light to people. Joh 1:10 The Word was in the world, and though God made the world through him, yet the world did not recognize him. Joh 1:14 The Word became a human being and, full of grace and truth, lived among us. We saw his glory, the glory which he received as the Father's only Son. I wouldn't recommend it as the only Bible a person should, nor even the first bible a person should read, but I don't see a problem using it as a reference. Wow... what did the voice sound like? Soft, loud, masculine, like thunder, powerful, sweet... Just curious. I've heard the statement many a time from local church members stating that "God spoke to me", "God told me", "God said" but when I ask what they really heard they can't tell me. I'm just jealous, I guess. :) since I've only heard to speak to me through his completed scripture... and that's good enough for me... I think you are hitting the nail right on the head and driving it deeper. Sometime i myself have heard people say "God told me this" and "God told me that" Now i'm not saying that some of the stuff they say isn't right. I'll just advise a word of caution against them. Test what they say as to whether it lines up with Scripture. I believe the Biblical prinicple is to try the spirits...or in this case...see if what they are saying lines up with Scripture..FULLY. Not just what's on the surface, but get down anddon't be afraid to get dirty when searching for this stuff. Archeology is part of the Bible and so is History...so sometimes that means we gotta get dirty in our research and dig up some stuff...:). A good example of the voice of God speaking one on one can be found in 1 Kings 19:11
11 The LORD said, "Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD , for the LORD is about to pass by." Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD , but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 13 When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?" 14 He replied, "I have been very zealous for the LORD God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, broken down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too." God doesn't have to always speak in a MIGHTY booming voice that hollywood portrays it as. He can speak to us through His Word, through circumstances to teach us a lesson, through music. through His creation. How awesome is it to have a God that can do those things. The reason He can is because He is a PERSONAL God. He knows each and every one of us...lol. That's how it'll be in the Millenium...we'll all know the same things. There won't be any startling individual revelations concerning HIS being. Anyway...i'm done for now...nice to see your post samson...i enjoyed it. And to the others on this site...i will be off for about a week as I head to the beach for vacation and then get back into the grind of school when i get back on monday so it'l be wednesday of next week before i can get back...you guys behave and God Bless ya.
