Often when I pray I find myself interchanging between praying to Jesus and to God. I don't mean too, it just happens. Is this okay?

That is an interesting question. Within the New Testament Jesus teaches us how to pray and this is what he tells us to say:

"Our Father, who art in Heaven
How will be thy name
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in Heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our tresspasses
As we forgive those who tresspass against us
Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil
For thine is the kingdom, power and glory forever
Amen"

God loves to hear us call upon him whether it be a time of praise or repentance, or even just the ask for his hand upon our lives if not upon others. I am not sure about the praying to Jesus bit. To me that would almost be liking commiting Idoltry. God Bless.

Since Jesus is God, I don't see the problem...

I often go through my day having ordinary conversations with God, or speaking with Jesus. To me, they are the same being...the Father and the Son, two parts of the trinity.

God and Jesus, one and the same. It really doesn't matter. God knows your heart and mind. Your prayers are before Him even before you begin.

As it is said in some of the other posts above, God and Jesus are one and the same. It does not at all make a difference. We are told though to do all in the name of Jesus, thus ending our prayers in the wonderful name of Jesus.

Col 3:17  And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

We are taught that God & Jesus are one. When I pray I speak to my Father in heaven. I find a quiet place in the woods where I am totally alone and in prayer speak out loud to God, as if he were standing with me. I have shared tears and heartache, and happiness in the knowledge of prayers answered and, as well as, not answered. When I am finished I close by prayer with; In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
The Father knows our hearts and already knows what needs to be said, and delights in joy when his children come to him in prayer and repentance. Don't be worried about including Jesus in your prayers, just keep on praying. It is important that all true Christian hold fast to our faith as the world is changing and we need to be on guard and not let ourselves be led away from the truth.

The Lord's Prayer as it is called is the guidelines to be used for our prayers.  We know that this is not to be our prayer word for word....and it is pretty safe to assume that when Jesus went up the mount and prayed all night that He did not go up there and repeat this prayer over and over.  But what Jesus did was give us the "outline" if you will for our prayers.

One thing to also note is that God created prayer so that we would take time to talk with Him.  There are times that I will go out back and just sit and talk with God just like I was talking to my wife or a friend.  He is my father after all.  But let us take a look at the outline and see what we have.

"Our Father, who art in Heaven
Hallow be thy name
* We start off with an acknowledgment of who God is and that He is our Father.

Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in Heaven
* We understand that it is God's will that we are asking for.  It is the Will of God that we are seeking.  And we acknowledge that it is His will that is to be done on earth just as he is sovereign in Heaven as well.
 
Give us this day our daily bread
* Jesus prayer did not ask for steaks and lobster.  Jesus asked that God provide us with what we need.  We do not need all the extra's that we have come to accept. 

And forgive us our tresspasses
* We bring out the sins we have committed and ask for forgiveness for those sins.  Part of repentance is recognizing the sins that were committed and acknowledging them and being repentant of them.

As we forgive those who tresspass against us
* Jesus prayed for those around Him.  We pray for those that are lost around us, we pray for God's hands to intervene. 

Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil
* We pray for God's help to keep us from sinning.  Show us the wisdom and guidance we need to continue in His will.

For thine is the kingdom, power and glory forever
* Again we recognize that everything belongs to God.  And we want to do all that we can to glorify God.

Amen"

Maybe that will help.  Hope so.

Jesus did not pray for those in the  world .Jesus said"I pray for them  I do not pray for the world but for those whom you have given me, for they are Yours.JN,17:9 NKJ

It's interesting that so many people have the same question.  I too, used to wonder if I was mentioning Jesus too much.  I even wondered if God was upset with me as a result.  Of course, I wasn't thinking clearly.  In reality, they are one. 

John 10:29-30
My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.
I and my Father are one.

I personally would have to disagree that Jesus did pray for those that were lost.  They needed prayer more than anyone else on earth.  And if you read a little further down in that chapter you will see that Jesus did pray for the lost.

Jn 17:20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

This shows that Jesus not only prayed for those that God had given Jesus (saved), but those "which shall" believe through the word of those God has already given Jesus.  The "which shall" indicates that at the time they do not believe.

Hi Danielle ..first i would like to say that in my bible it is written"Hallowed be Your name.Your kingdom come Your will be doneMt,6:9-10..They call it the Lords Prayer and Jesus said,Mt6:9 in the matter therefore,pray:" OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN HALLOWED BE YOUR NAME"when Jesus said the Father and I are one.He was referring to the" God TRINITY" God the FATHER GOD THE SON GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT "Father means  NO"1and came forth from "NO 1 "the Son and  the Holy Ghost they are" all in "ONE" and was for ever  they did not have beginning nor end"thats the way it is" but it is  express to us in different way that is why God loved us so much that He  "GAVE"Incarnated in  flesh His Word His LightTHEY CALL HIM JESUS CHRIST"and Jesus loved His Father so much that He obeyed and SAVED and the Holy Ghost" is" the connection"the FLOW" to us and the universe, between God the Father and God the Son the two, and now to US ,the SAVED ONE, and thats makes three,cause now we are one with this TRINITY...`and no I would not pray to Jesus  but i would ask Him to ask the Father in His(Jesus) name for me like He though me..Jn17:26(NKJ)"In that day you will ask in My name,and I do not say to you that I shall pray the Father for you; 27:" For the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me, and have believed that I came Forth from God. 28:" I came Forth from the Father and have come into the world. Again, I leave the world and go to the Father," and Danielle i love Jesus Christ  and I am grateful for the works of salvation His shed Blood for me.and I do love Him He is my heros but God Did not ask me to love Him (Jesus) He (God) ask me to believe in Him(Jesus) whosoever believeth in Him,Jn3,16,(KJ) so i believe in Jesus Christ and by  grace  Through Faith I have learned to love Him and follow Him but i is God the Father that I pray to and Adore..i bow down to calvary and embrace the Christ of the Passion His Blood shed  for me and his last breath for me .I will follow Him till he comes back to get me very soon ,He will be on time  He is my loving savior  He is God the Son he is my king and Brother.."Come Lord Jesus  come.Amen ,,Love in Jesus ,Def.

A couple things I would like to say here.....

First off, I agree with many of the others, that there can be nothing wrong with praying to Jesus, for God knows our heart, and listens accordingly.
But I would also say that Jesus died so that we could have access to the Father, through Him.
I talk to God the Father...I talk to God the Holy Spirit...And I talk to Jesus.
But mostly I "pray to" the Father, through Jesus.
"And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you." [John 16:23].

What I myself have learned is that we are, for the most part, to pray to the Father, but we are to "seek" Jesus.
Long ago, Jesus spoke to me and said, "just seek Me." So I did. As I centered my whole thoughts and being on Jesus, God touched me in a very special way....It was like electricity flowing through my body, and lasted about 15 minutes. As it ended, I found myself speaking in tongues, though at that time I had never even heard of tongues. But this annointing from the Holy Spirit also opened up His Word to me like never before. It was a couple weeks later that He showed me from His word what the speaking in tongues was, and that I had been baptized in the Holy Spirit. "for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." [Acts 1:5]. And, "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you." [verse 8]
(notice that it says the Holy Spirit shall come UPON you. When we are born again, He comes to live IN us...but when He annoints us, He comes UPON us. He came UPON Jesus...He came UPON the disciples...and He came UPON me that day, and annointed me for service.
Some will say, I suppose, that this was just for those days, but He has been doing it for all who seek Jesus until this day. "And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues." [Acts 2:4]
So, pray as you feel led, but the Word seems to say to pray to the Father, through Jesus Christ. This is why it is wrong for the catholic church is to teach people to pray through Mary. "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." [John 14:6].
