There's a difference between 'murder' and 'kill'.  :)

There is bad intention behind murder. If you have to kill to protect yourself or a loved one that's different as long as it's not premeditated.

I agree, murder is done with bad intentions.  Killing out of self defense is something you don't do with bad intentions. You just have to do it for your protection or maybe the protection of others.  I think it's better to disable someone if you can instead of completely killing them, but I know sometimes you can't.  So no, I wouldn't say killing out of self defense is breaking one of the ten commandments. ;D

Ya-know I have never thought of this at all. This is a Very good Question!

God did say this;

Exodus
CHAPTER 20:13

13   Thou shalt not kill.

Holy Bible -- King James Version

I truly think if you're defending yourself in self defense and someone dies because of this, would you be responsible ~>No.

After all no one intended to murder anyone right?  Remember though Murder is Killing!!!! No one should break that commandment if they can. Try Love instead of anger!!

Blessings,  \o/

Look at the roots of the words:

murder
[Old English moržor . Ultimately from an Indo-European word that is also the ancestor of English mortal, moribund, and ambrosia. Later reinforced by Old French murdre , from prehistoric Germanic.]

kill
[13th century. From assumed Old English cyllan , from a prehistoric Germanic word that is also the ancestor of English quell.]

kill a general word used to talk about causing the death of a person or animal;
murder to take the life of another person in an intentional and often premeditated way that constitutes a serious criminal act;

Murder IS killing..... Though, not all killing is murder.  :)

If anyone eats meat, then they should see a difference. ;)

============================================== TURN TURN THE PAGE!!!

Exodus 21:12-15 (and then some!)
Anyone who strikes a man and kills him shall surely be put to death.   However, if he does not do it intentionally, but God lets it happen, he is to flee to a place I will designate.  But if a man schemes and kills another man deliberately, take him away from my altar and put him to death. Anyone who attacks his father or his mother must be put to death.

 The actual Hebrew word was mistranslated to read "kill" the proper translation is "murder".

 God guided many deadly battles in the O.T. Loads of men were killed - however, they were not murdered.
 God does not guide us into sin.
