If any of you have ever been on a misionary trip or you are a missionary, can you give me some tips on how to start?

I'm sorry to be so late in answering your post. Many in my family are missionaries, and some have been to Honduras. First, I would hope you have plans to deal effectively with a different language. It is a must to be able to communicate, either yourself or through an interpreter. Second, you should expect some very difficult living conditions, depending on what portion of the country you go to. If you or someone in your party has the ability to help with basic sanitation and clean water, that will go a long way in gaining their trust and wanting to talk with you. Third, be creative and study their needs for food, preparation of food, and basic problems in their survival. A study of native plants and animals that could be used for food would be great. Communication in their language is a must, but written materials in their language would be wonderful. If they don't have reading skills and have never heard of Jesus, you should consider preparing for something like a Sunday school class at a very basic and primary level. If you don't have someone in your group who can communicate with them in writing or by speech, I wouldn't have a clue what to tell you. Communication must be solved first. The second problem might be their fear of you, what you might represent, and potential danger in hearing your message. I would heavily suggest that you do your homework on the location you want to visit. You and your party might also be in danger. Try to pick a place of reasonable safety, but be prepared to take care of most medical treatment yourselves. Providing basic medical treatment to the people you wish to minister to is also a good way of gaining their trust. If they haven't heard about Jesus, it's also possible that they haven't heard about aspirin, bandages, various over the counter medications, salves, ointments, etc. Please don't just rush off and go without the proper information, supplies, and plans. Numerous organizations can help you if you have a specific location, some idea of your budget, and a plan about what you want to do. This type of homework will help your party survive and increase the potential you will be effective with the people you want to minister to. Don't forget about the health risks to your party from disease and other hazards you are sure to face. I hope this helps some.
