Title: Does this apply to Christmas traditions?
Post by: Jesusinme on July 24, 2004, 09:17:32 AM
Jeremiah 10:2 Thus saith the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven;for the heathen are dismayed at them.
10:3 For the customs of the people are vain:for one cutteth a tree out of the forrest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the ax.
10:4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
10:5 They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.
10:6 Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O Lord;thou art great, andthy name is great in might.

Does this refer to the Christmas tree?
where does the tradition of the Christmas tree come from anyway?? anyone know?

Perhaps Germany.

This is really tricky for us Christians, because the very origin of the date for Christmas was taken from a heathen religion.

I found this link that pretty much gives the history of the Christmas Tree, its origins, and legends - nice and concise:

http://www.novareinna.com/festive/tree.html

To answer your question about Jer 10:  yes, I believe that Scripture is prophetic of what we are doing today.

I guess my question would be - where in Scripture are we instructed to celebrate Christ's birthday?

Shalom, MalkyEL  8)

Wow,   I am happy to report mine is fake!   I would think Jesus was born about September. Over the years Christmass has become more and more a spiritual headache for me the more i learn the less i like  "todays Christmas".
