Title: YOUR FAVORITE WORSHIP SONG AND WHY. Post by: SavedByGrace02 on July 19, 2004, 06:41:41 PM Mine's "Listen to our hearts" by Steven Curtis Chapman.
Every time we sing that at church i get more and more desperate and hungry to know God more. Last night i was just breaking down asking the Lord to break me (if you know what i mean.) that song really makes me soke into worship that at times i can't even explain what is going on w/ me when im in that stage of worship. Title: Re:YOUR FAVORITE WORSHIP SONG AND WHY. Post by: SavedByGrace02 on July 19, 2004, 06:44:51 PM Here's the song lyrics to those that dont know it.
(Verse 1) How do you explain, how do you describe A love that goes from the east to west And runs as deep as it is ride You know all our hopes Lord, you know all our fears And words cannot express the love we feel But we long for You to hear (Chorus) So listen to our hearts Here our spirit sing A song of praise that flows From those you have redeemed We will use the words we know To tell you what an awesome God You are But words are not enough To tell you of our love So listen to our hearts (Verse 2) If words could fall like rain From these lips of mine And if I had a thousand years I would still run out of time So if You'll listen to my heart Every beat will say Thank You for the life, Thank You for the truth, Thank You for the way Title: Re:YOUR FAVORITE WORSHIP SONG AND WHY. They change weekly, they might change as my mood or needs change. I keep most of my favorite songs typed up on the larger index cards, punch holes in them, and put them in a small ( 5X7) photo album with the chords and then I always have a quick way of accessing my favorites. One of my all time favorites is "Sweet Communion" from several years ago, You are my all in all, a big request that I had when on a mission trip was "Let us Exalt the Lord" kids love that song. There are so many.

Nothing but the blood of Jesus. What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. I like SONG OF LOVE by REbecca St. James because the song expresses our love for the Creator and that our only hope is of God. Michael Title: Re:YOUR FAVORITE WORSHIP SONG AND WHY. Title: Re:YOUR FAVORITE WORSHIP SONG AND WHY. Post by: Jemidon2004 on October 20, 2004, 04:59:41 PM I think my favorite at the moment would have to be "On My Cross" by FFH. Read these lyrics...and you'll see why.
How wide is Your love That You would stretch Your arms And go around the world And why for me would a Savior's cry be heard I don't know Why You went where I was meant to go I don't know Why You love me so Those were my nails That was my crown That pierced Your hands and Your brow Those were my thorns Those were my scorns Those were my tears that fell down And just as You said it would be You did it all for me And after You counted the cost You took my shame, my blame On my cross How deep is Your grace That you could see my need And chose to take my place And then for me, these words I'd hear You say Father no Forgive them for they know not what they do I will go Because I love them so Those were my nails that was my crown that peirced your hands and your brow those were my thorns those were my scorns those were my tears that fell down and just as you said it would be you did it all for me and after you counted the cost you took my shame, my blame on my cross those were my nails that was my crown that peirced your hands and your brow those were my thorns those were my scorns those were my tears that feel down and just as u said it would be u did it all for me and after u counted the cost you took my shame my blame on my cross after u counted the cost u took my shame, my blame on my cross We should have been the ones to die...not Him. But He did it anyway. Powerful worship song. God Bless Title: Re:YOUR FAVORITE WORSHIP SONG AND WHY. Post by: Philippians 4:13 on October 21, 2004, 04:22:11 AM "One Of These Days" by FFH
Simply because it reminds me that "One of these days I'm gonna meet my Jesus face to face" "Shout To The Lord" by Darlene Zschech and the Hillsong Church Worship Team Just because it really helps me connect with God and helps me to feel closer to Him!! Robert Title: Re:YOUR FAVORITE WORSHIP SONG AND WHY. Post by: Philippians 4:13 on October 23, 2004, 06:33:13 AM "Watch The Lamb" by Ray Boltz
Because I once saw a good friend of mine do a mime, that's right, a mime to it at our workplace and he basically had 450 people moved to tears by it. That was one of the things that first led and held me to Christ. Just about any song by Ray Boltz because of his passion. You can hear and feel his passion for Christ in his music and that really helps when I need to "ground" myself and reconnect with my Lord and Saviour. "Omega" by Rebecca St. James Just a plain awesome song based on psalm 23 I think. please correct me if I'm wrong. In His Service, Robert Title: Re:YOUR FAVORITE WORSHIP SONG AND WHY. Title: Re:YOUR FAVORITE WORSHIP SONG AND WHY. Post by: Sulfurdolphin on November 24, 2004, 12:53:25 PM My favorite song is by Andrew Peterson called HIGH NOON High noon in the valley of the shadow When the deep of the valley was bright When the mouth of the tomb Shouted, "Glory, the Groom is alive" So long, you wages of sin Go on, don't you come back again I've been raised and redeemed You've lost all your sting To the victor of the battle At high noon in the valley In the valley of the shadow Now the demons, they danced in the darkness When that last ragged breath left his lungs And they reveled and howled At the war that they thought they had won But then, in the dark of the grave The stone rolled away In the still of the dawn on the greatest of days High noon in the valley of the shadow When the shadows were shot through with light When Jesus took in that breath And shattered all Death with his life So long, you wages of sin Go on, don't you come back again I've been raised and redeemed You've lost all your sting To the victor of the battle High noon in the valley of the shadow Let the people rejoice Let the heavens resound Let the name of Jesus, who sought us And freed us forever ring out All praise to the fighter of the night Who rides on the light Whose gun is the grace of the God of the sky High noon in the valley of the shadow When the shadows were shot through with light When the mouth of the tomb Shouted, "Glory, the Groom is alive" So long, you wages of sin I said go on, don't you come back again I've been raised and redeemed All praise to the king The victor of the battle High noon in the valley In the valley of the shadow Copyright 2003 New Spring Publishing, Inc. Words: By “Mordecai,” 14th Century; translated from Hebrew to German by Leopold Stein (1810-1882); translated from German to English by Marcus Jastrow (1829-1903) and Gustav Gottheil (1827-1903). Rock of Ages, let our song Praise Thy saving power; Thou, amidst the raging foes, Wast our sheltering tower. Furious they assailed us, But Thine arm availed us, And Thy Word Broke their sword When our own strength failed us. Kindling new the holy lamps, Priests, approved in suffering, Purified the nation’s shrine, Brought to God their offering. And His courts surrounding Hear, in joy abounding, Happy throngs, Singing songs With a mighty sounding. Children of the martyr race, Whether free or fettered, Wake the echoes of the songs Where ye may be scattered. Yours the message cheering That the time is nearing Which will see All men free, Tyrants disappearing. Title: Re:YOUR FAVORITE WORSHIP SONG AND WHY. Amazing Grace In Christ Alone Can't really think of a modern worship song that does a lot for me.. I like stuff with meaty words that you can really get your teeth into, stuff that encourages you in your faith, not necessarily one that makes you feel anything. Althoguh Be Thou My Vision gets me every time hehe Title: Re:YOUR FAVORITE WORSHIP SONG AND WHY. Title: Re: YOUR FAVORITE WORSHIP SONG AND WHY. Post by: airIam2worship on April 24, 2006, 11:23:35 AM I know this is a topic that hasn't been posted in for a long time. But there are so many new Christian songs out there and I for one have many favorites here is one:
Above All Written by Paul Baloche & Lenny LeBlanc Above all powers , above all kings Above all nature and all created things Above all wisdom and all the ways of man You were here before the world began Above all kingdoms , above all thrones Above all wonders the world has ever known Above all wealth and treasures of the earth There's no way to measure what You're worth Crucified , laid behind the stone You lived to die, rejected and alone Like a rose , trampled on the ground You took the fall and thought of me , above all © 1999 Integrity's Hosanna! Music CCLI# 1596342 Album: Open the Eyes of My Heart Just listening to this song lets me feel the love God has for us. The lyrics tell it all Title: Re: YOUR FAVORITE WORSHIP SONG AND WHY. Post by: spectre260 on April 28, 2006, 09:51:40 PM I like this song because it has a very nice message
More Take a look at the mountain Stretching a mile high Take a look at the ocean Far as your eye can see And think of me Take a look at the desert Do you feel like a grain of sand? I am with you wherever Where you go is where I am And I'm always thinking of you Take a look around you I'm spelling it out one by one I love you more than the sun And the stars that I taught how to shine You are mine and you shine for me too I love you Yesterday And today And tomorrow I'll say it again and again I love you more Just a face in the city Just a tear on a crowded street But you are one in a million And you belong to me And I want you to know I'm not letting go Even when you come undone I love you more Shine for me Shine for me Shine on, shine on Shine for me Title: Re: YOUR FAVORITE WORSHIP SONG AND WHY. Post by: Ruth on May 12, 2006, 12:57:42 AM I've just got to share some of my favorites with you folks. In fact, let's just take a journey through the Church-year:
Advent Come O Long Expected Jesus Come, O long expected Jesus, born to set your people free From our fears and sins release us by your death on Calvary Israel's strength and consolation, hope to all the earth impart Dear desire of every nation, joy of everything longing heart Born your people to deliver, born a child and yet a king Born to reign in us forever, now your gracious kingdom bring By your own eternal Spirit rule in all our hearts alone By your all-sufficient merit raise us to your glorious throne (Charles Wesley 1707-1788) Christmas Of the Father's Love Begotten Of the Father’s love begotten, ere the worlds began to be, He is Alpha and Omega, He the source, the ending He, Of the things that are, that have been, And that future years shall see, evermore and evermore! O that birth forever blessèd, when the virgin, full of grace, By the Holy Ghost conceiving, bare the Savior of our race; And the Babe, the world’s Redeemer, First revealed His sacred face, evermore and evermore! This is He Whom seers in old time chanted of with one accord; Whom the voices of the prophets promised in their faithful word; Now He shines, the long expected, Let creation praise its Lord, evermore and evermore! Let the heights of heaven adore Him; angel hosts, His praises sing; Powers, dominions, bow before Him, and extol our God and King! Let no tongue on earth be silent, Every voice in concert sing, evermore and evermore! Christ, to you, with God the Father; and the Spirit, there shall be Hymn and chant and high thanksgiving, and the shout of jubilee Honor, glory, and dominion And eternal victory, evermore and evermore! (Aurelius Prudentius Clemens c. 348-413) Epiphany Songs of Thankfulness and Praise Songs of thankfulness and praise, Jesus, Lord, to thee we raise, manifested by the star to the sages from afar; branch of royal David's stem in thy birth at Bethlehem; anthems be to thee addressed, God in man made manifest. Manifest at Jordan's stream, Prophet, Priest and King supreme; and at Cana, wedding guest, in thy Godhead manifest; manifest in power divine, changing water into wine; anthems be to thee addressed, God in man made manifest. Manifest in making whole palsied limbs and fainting soul; manifest in valiant fight, quelling all the devil's might; manifest in gracious will, ever bringing good from ill; anthems be to thee addressed, God in man made manifest. Grant us grace to see thee, Lord, mirrored in thy holy Word; may we imitate thee now, and be pure, as pure art thou; that we like to thee may be at thy great Epiphany; and may praise thee, ever blest, God in man made manifest. (Christopher Wordsworth 1807-1885) Lent: My Song is Love Unknown My song is love unknown, my Savior's love to me Love to the loveless shown that they might lovely be But who am I that for my sake My Lord should take frail flesh and die? He came from his blest throne, salvation to bestow But men made strange and none the longed-for Christ know But, oh my friend, my friend indeed Who at my need his life did spend Sometimes they strew his way, and his sweet praises sing Resounding all the day hosannas to their king Then crucify is all their breath And for his death they thirst and cry Why, what hath my Lord done? What makes this rage and spite? He made the lame to run, he gave the blind their sight Sweet injuries! Yet they at these Themselves displease and 'gainst him rise They rise and needs will have my dear Lord made away A murdered they save, the Prince of Life they slay Yet cheerful he to suffering goes That he his foes from thence might free In life no house no home my Lord on earth might have In death no friendly tomb but what a stranger gave What may I say? Heaven was his home But mine the tomb wherein he lay Here might I stay and sing, no story so divine Never was love, dear King, never was grief like thine This is my friend in whose sweet praise I all my days could gladly spend (Samuel Crossman c. 1624-1683) Passion Week Go to Dark Gethsemane Go to dark Gethsemane, all that feel the tempter’s power; Your Redeemer’s conflict see, watch with Him one bitter hour, Turn not from His griefs away; learn of Jesus Christ to pray. See Him at the judgment hall, view the Lord of life arraigned; O the wormwood and the gall! O the pangs His soul sustained! Shun not suffering, shame, or loss; learn of Christ to bear the cross. Calvary’s mournful mountain climb; there, adoring at His feet, Mark that miracle of time, God’s own sacrifice complete. “It is finished!” hear Him cry; learn of Jesus Christ to die. Early hasten to the tomb where they laid His breathless clay; All is solitude and gloom. Who has taken Him away? Christ is risen! He meets our eyes; Savior, teach us so to rise. (James Montgomery 1771-1854) Easter At the Lamb's High Feast We Sing At the Lamb’s high feast we sing Praise to our victorious king, Who has washed us in the tide Flowing from his pierced side. Alleluia! Praise we him, whose love divine Gives his sacred blood for wine, Gives his body for the feast Christ the victim, Christ the priest. Alleluia! Where the paschal blood is poured, Death’s dread angel sheathes the sword; Israel’s hosts triumphant go Through the wave that drowns the foe. Alleluia! Praise we Christ, whose blood was shed, Paschal victim, paschal bread; With sincerity and love Eat we manna from above. Alleluia! Mighty Victim from the sky, Hell’s fierce powers beneath you lie; You have conquered in the fight You have brought us life and light. Alleluia! Now no more can death appall, Now no more the grave enthrall; You have opened paradise, And your saints in you shall rise. Alleluia! Easter triumph, Easter joy! This alone can sin destroy; From sin’s power, Lord, set us free, Newborn souls in you to be. Alleluia! Father, who the crown shall give, Savior, by whose death we live, Spirit, guide through all our days; Three in One, Your name we praise. Alleluia! (office hymn, 17th century) Pentecost Holy Spirit, Ever Dwelling Holy Spirit, ever dwelling in the holiest realms of light Holy Spirit, ever brooding o'er a world of gloom and blight Holy Spirit, ever raising earthbound souls to glory high Living, life-imparting Spirit you we praise and magnify. Holy Spirit, ever breathing on the church the breath of life Holy Spirit, ever striving through you people's ceaseless strife Holy Spirit, ever forming in the church the mind of Christ In our worship we will praise you for your fruit and gifts unpriced. Holy Spirit, ever working through the church's ministry Quickening, strengthening, and absolving setting captive sinners free Holy Spirit, ever binding age to age and soul to soul In community unending you we worship and extol. (Timothy Raes 1874-1939) All Saint's Day For All the Saints For all the saints, who from their labors rest, All who by faith before the world confessed, Thy Name, O Jesus, be forever blessed. Alleluia, Alleluia! You were their Rock, their Fortress and their Might; You, Lord, their Captain in the well fought fight; You, in the darkness drear, their one true Light. Alleluia, Alleluia! O blest communion, fellowship divine! We feebly struggle, they in glory shine; Yet all are one within your great design. Alleluia, Alleluia! O may your soldiers, faithful, true and bold, Fight as the saints who nobly fought of old, And win with them the victor’s crown of gold. Alleluia, Alleluia! And when the strife is fierce, the warfare long, Steals on the ear the distant triumph song, And hearts are brave, again, and arms are strong. Alleluia, Alleluia! The golden evening brightens in the west; Soon, soon to faithful warriors comes their rest; Sweet is the calm of paradise the blessed. Alleluia, Alleluia! But yet there breaks a yet more glorious day; The saints triumphant rise in bright array; The King of glory passes on His way. Alleluia, Alleluia! From earth’s wide bounds, from ocean’s farthest coast, Through gates of pearl streams in the countless host, And singing to Father, Son and Holy Ghost: Alleluia, Alleluia! (William How 1823-1897) ------------------------------------------------------------------- I could probably go a few pages more with hymns...the other day I had someone tell me that the words of hymns are not "relevant" anymore. I asked him to explain how so. I never got a good answer. The Lutheran church is all about music, and I must say, growing up with its hymnody tradition has been a huge blessing. Hope you all enjoyed your brief tour through the church-year. Title: Re: YOUR FAVORITE WORSHIP SONG AND WHY. Title: Re: YOUR FAVORITE WORSHIP SONG AND WHY. Post by: NateyCakes on February 01, 2007, 02:55:00 AM Wow, there are SO many. It was difficult to pick one. I'm going to go with AS THE DEER. *This song always gets me to just stop whatever it is I am doing & just pray and think of the Lords love He has for us. I usually end up in tears~ Just love it. So beautiful & GREAT message~
(Lyrics) As the deer panteth for the water So my soul longeth after Thee. You alone are my heart's desire And I long to worship Thee. You alone are my strength, my shield, To You alone may my spirit yield. You alone are my heart's desire, And I long to worship Thee. You're my friend and you are my brother Even though You are a King. I love You more than any other, So much more than anything. I want You more than gold or silver Only You can satisfy. You alone are the real joy giver And the apple of my eye. Title: Re: YOUR FAVORITE WORSHIP SONG AND WHY. I also like Casting Crowns.

Post by: chasengirl1726 on March 19, 2008, 02:33:00 PM My favorite song is "In Christ Alone". I'm actually going to sing it while the mothers & grandmothers are being seated at my wedding this June. I LOVE IT. "In Christ Alone my HOPE is found, HE is my light, my STRENTH, MY SONG. This CORNERSTONE. THIS SOLID GROUND. FIRM through the FIERCEST drought and storm. What heights of LOVE, what DEPTHS of PEACE, when fears are STILLED, when strivings cease. My comforter, my all in all, HERE IN THE POWER OF CHRIST I STAND. "
AMEN!!! I love the words. SOOOOO BEAUTIFUL!!! The rest of the verses are just as great and truth packed:) Title: Re: YOUR FAVORITE WORSHIP SONG AND WHY. Post by: Soldier4Christ on March 21, 2008, 12:56:56 PM There are so many that give praise and thanks to God, so many that speak out in the manner that I feel that it is difficult to pick just one. The following is just one of the many that I really like. It is a just one of the many variations that I have heard of this song but this variation is one that I like the most.
This World is Not My Home This world is not my home, I'm just a-passin through. My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue. The angels beckon me from Heaven's open door And I can't feel at home in this world anymore. O Lord you know I have no friend like you If Heaven's not my home, then Lord what will I do? The angels beckon me from Heaven's open door And I can't feel at home in this world anymore. They're all expecting me and that's one thing I know. My Savior pardoned me and now I onward go. I know He'll take me through, though I am weak and poor. O Lord you know I have no friend like you If Heaven's not my home, then Lord what will I do? The angels beckon me from Heaven's open door And I can't feel at home in this world anymore. Just up in Glory Land we'll live eternally. The Saints on every hand are shouting victory. Their song of sweetest praise drifts back from Heaven's shore And I can't feel at home in this world anymore. O Lord you know I have no friend like you If Heaven's not my home, then Lord what will I do? The angels beckon me from Heaven's open door And I can't feel at home in this world anymore. I have a loving mother Just up in Gloryland And I don't expect to stop Until I shake her hand. She's waiting now for me In heaven's open door And I can't feel at home In this world anymore. Oh Lord, you know I have no friend like you If heaven's not my home Then Lord what will I do. The angels beckon me From heaven's open door And I can't feel at home In this world anymore. Just over in Gloryland We'll live eternaly The saints on every hand Are shouting victory. Their songs of sweetest praise Drift back from heaven's shore And I can't feel at home In this world anymore. Oh Lord, you know I have no friend like you If heaven's not my home Then Lord what will I do. The angels beckon me From heaven's open door And I can't feel at home In this world anymore... Title: Re: YOUR FAVORITE WORSHIP SONG AND WHY. Post by: heatherchelle_2000 on March 21, 2008, 08:26:53 PM I don't know if this one counts as a worship song. It's not exactly the sort of song I've ever heard in church. But I love "Big Fish" by FFH. First of all, it's hilarious. ;D And second, it is oh so true! I struggle so much with trying to figure out how to follow Jesus. It's a comfort to know that He will forgive me, every single time I mess up, when I repent and turn back to Him.
chorus: Are you in the big fish Are you sitting in the belly of a world gone mad Have you turned your back on His wish On His will for your life, have you made Him sad Do you want to get out of the big fish Listen to God and follow His plan And you won't be part of the main dish He'll spit you out on to dry land verse 1: You're one brick short of a load now brother You're one shot away from a bullseye You are missing the mark on your spiritual walk You started walking away now you're sinking - Into the deep, wake up from the sleep See you're one fry short of a happy meal You are incomplete by your own deceit You turned your back, now you're going swimming verse 2: You're sinking low how low can you go So low that you don't know which way to go To the truth or to the dare? If you take the dare then you'll be swallowed there But run to the truth and you will find That a rescue arrives right in time To pick you up back on your feet Obedience is neat God is great! Have a lovely evening! Title: Re: YOUR FAVORITE WORSHIP SONG AND WHY. Post by: HisDaughter on April 19, 2008, 05:00:05 PM "That Great Day" or "Only A Man" by Jonny Lang. He is coming to Seattle in July and I do plan to be there. I have already put in for a vacation day since it's a Friday night and I work Friday thru Tues. evenings. Soon as I find out that I get that night off I will buy my ticket! Title: Re: YOUR FAVORITE WORSHIP SONG AND WHY. Post by: Maryjane on April 22, 2008, 04:00:04 PM What is more important than the music is the heart of the one who sings it..I can't even begin to count all the talented ones who can sing with great skill..but only God knows the heart of the one who sings..We hear much about 'annointed' and it is surprising to me that there is no such passage in the bible that speaks of annointed singers..and we do not know if the angels only sing soprano..but we do know that it is the heart the Lord knows and from the heart comes the song and from the lyrics also the heart will sing the word of God in song..reminding the listener of God's love, mercy, grace..of His Sovereignty and Holiness..

For those that don't know who he is besides a blues singer and musician he was a child prodigy who cut his first album at the age of 15 and it sold like hotcakes! Fabulous voice! Title: Re: YOUR FAVORITE WORSHIP SONG AND WHY. Post by: Hary on June 05, 2008, 05:34:10 AM You can't go past the classic hymns, Amazing Grace, Great is thy faithfulness and also How great thou art.
I have too many that I love because each one touched me in some different way. Whether it made me feel like I was there, (easter time particularly) or it meant something to me as it related to something in my life. Songs that stir your heart that your heart feels like it is just too small to contain the joy or love or awe that you have in side. |
