Jezebel: real person, real history, real example of what not to do in Christ’s Church.

Quote
Revelation 2:20
Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols.

In Revelation chapters 2 and 3, Paul is dictated seven letters by Jesus to be delivered to His seven churches in Asia Minor.  The Church at Ephesus, located in what is now Turkey, was one of those Churches.  Jezebel was a real person, who, as noted by our Lord, was involved with that church.  It is obvious her teachings were false and misleading, and Jesus admonishes the Church for allowing her to remain part of the flock.

Moral: False teaching will not be tolerated by God.

Yes, I believe she was a "real" person in the church, but that the designation (or name) "Jezebel" was used to denote the behaviour of whoever she really was, and was based on the Jezebel of 1 Kings, which was some (900 or so?) years before Christ.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it to John the letters were dictated?

Rev 1:9  I, John, who also am your brother and companion in the affliction, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the island that is called Patmos, for the Word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Rev 1:10  I came to be in the Spirit in the Lord's day and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,
Rev 1:11  saying, I am the Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last. Also, What you see, write in a book and send it to the seven churches which are in Asia: to Ephesus, and to Smyrna, and to Pergamos, and to Thyatira, and to Sardis, and to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea.

SavedByGrace:

If you read the story of Elijah, Ahab & Jezebel you will understand the type of behaviour being mentioned in Revelation.
