Title: Horses
Post by: Willowbirch on July 07, 2004, 09:18:12 PM
KristiAnn's got a horse. I work with horses. According to rumor, many folks dream of having a horse. I'm surprised it hasn't shown up in the "pets" forum yet...

(Of course, they're not as funny as cats and dogs. Or scorpions...)

LOL, yes my Mother and I do have a full grown Morgan Horse: notice mom Tilly watching her new born Xena! YaY This was almost a year ago now.

My daddy  used to raise  Appaloosa horses back in the 1950s and early 1960s, I was born in 1960, and my parents have a picture of me on top of one of those horses.

I have more pictures somewhere of Tilly and her foal. Tilly the mom of Xena isn't that dark. My mother took the picture. My daddy never got to see her born  :'(

You think scorpions are funny? (I thought there was no hope for the world, but I'm more optimistic now.  :P)

Actually, the only thing I find funny about scorpions is that people seem to love 'em... ;D

There are about sixty horses at the ranch where I work, and each year several foals are born. Here's some photos just for you, KristiAnn!

And then you can eat lunch around midnight, and then dinner in the morning, and then breakfast at night again. Of course if you do that long enough you'll be late for your early morning dinner.  ;D :P

Till 7 years ago I use to have horses. Since I can't ride no more, I have sold them. My horses are/were, arabian, had lots of fun riding them.

I enjoy riding horses. I've only done it twice, but the first time I rode for at least a couple hours.  :)

Depends. There's a new breed of pony, even smaller than a mini-Shetland...I saw one at a fair a few years ago. I think it was called a "Mouse".

"Horses aren't evil! Horses are good!"

Dunno, but I'm thoroughly convinced that Shetland ponies, at the very least, are the Agents Of Supreme Evil!
When I was little and didn't know any better, I used to be subjected to their cunning ways via a stable my dad took me to on occasion. One pony took off with me and then reared up, sending me into the dirt.
At the same place, another demon...I mean pony, lowered its head and made me slide down its neck, into the dirt.
Still another one (or maybe it was the same one) knocked me off by walking under a low tree branch.
I was too young to understand then, but had I looked, I'm sure I would see the flames of hell in their eyes, and they were trying to send me there before I could get saved.
Also, many years ago a woman in my church told of a Shetland pony that lived either on the property she was living on at the time, or possibly next door, and the beast would attack her for absolutely no reason as she did gardening work. It would bite and kick her. She said she hated it and wanted to BBQ the thing!!
I have heard many other horror stories about these ponies, too.
This is why I think they are Satan's agents in disguise, and their mission is to harm as many kids (and gardeners) as possible!

lol ... ponies can be quite onery but they can also be quite a big help. A shetland pony that my nephews had would act as a babysitter. It would prevent the younger ones from going out into traffic. It would grab the shirt by the collar and gently tug them back out and away from the road if they got a bit too close. One day one of my nephews fell asleep while riding him and he would shift his weight just right to keep him from falling off his back. My nephew was only 2 at that time.

When I lived on my uncles farm, we had a pony that coming in from the pasture would go the wrong way in the barn and get in front of the cow stalls and knock the lids off the barrels and eat the cows feed. If you tried to move him he would bite or kick. When good and ready he would move on toward his stall , and then go past it to eat the dogs feed and drink the milk we had for the cats. One day when I was taking a walk in the wooded pasture, he followed me and as I started forward to pet him he reared around and kicked at me with both feet. Lucky for me he missed.
I had a horse that dumped me off twice. Once we were galloping home and went straight through a lilac bush and I remember the petals flying everywhere around us as she then headed for the open barn door, stopping short and dumping me in a heap at her feet.
Another time she was galloping along just fine and tripped in a furrow in the field. She recovered her footing but I sailed over her head hitting the ground hard.
Another time we were headed home and she got the bit in her teeth and started galloping toward the barn, as the barn door to her stall was open, she slowed down enough to go into her stall. I ducked real fast and hung on as she went into the barn.
Horses may not be evil, but they have a devilish sense of humor.
