Title: Shadowmancer
Post by: colleen on May 28, 2004, 09:56:28 AM
I heard about this book "Shadowmancer," by G.P. Taylor.  It has been called the Christian Harry Potter, or the christian alternative to Harry Potter.  I was just wondering if anyone had read it.  If so, what were your thoughts on it?  I'm thinking about reading it, and wanted an opinion.

Whoa - Colleen!  You are getting the same response as the ones I get when I post a "has anyone read..."

He-he-he - I thought it was me!  Now I know that folks around here just don't read much!

He-he-he.   ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

Hey! That sounds cool - thanks for telling me about it - I'll put it on hold right away. I've been looking for something like that - I'll tell you what I think of it, but it might be a while  :)

-Thanks, Matt

Wait a second.... what was said about it being Christian? Here's a description of it from the library system:

When Obadiah Demurral, the power-hungry Vicar of Thorpe, attempts to become a god by dabbling in magic, Raphah (who has come from Africa to get back the artifact stolen from his Temple and sold to Demurral) joins forces with Kate and Thomas to stop him.

I don't know... there might be no harm in trying it... what do you think from the description?

I read halfway through it then drifted off as i often do with books. It wasn't that great, there's better.
I'm going on holiday next week to the whitby, where the book is set. If anyone is interested it is a beautiful place, amazing old abbey ruins. I know it like the back of my hand as it is a family favourite; it's practically a second home. I can't wait but have just noticed that this is wildly off topic.

I was interested in that book, too, but judging by a library review I read it's corny, predictable, and vaguely Christian at best. I think it's more like just another Harry Potter, not an alternative.

It was written by a vicar called G P Taylor. Its supposed to be a fantasy novel including Christianity - trying to be another Lewis, I guess.

I've got a copy, read it halfway and got bored. But then, I'm not really its intended readership age. It has apparently been pretty popular, and there is a sequel called Wormwood out at the moment.
