I have just finished reading the whole Bible for my first time. I read some people's posts and realize how much understanding they have of God's Word. I know a lot comes from fellowship, but for some people to have such an extensive understanding, and knowledge I would think people would have to read the Bible quite a number of times. I know for me only reading it once isn't enough. I got a lot out of it, but I know I'll get a lot more the next time around too.

"And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart...You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates." - Deuteronomy 6

I have read the Bible 4 times. To me the hardest book to go through is Chronicles 1 and 2.

Why would you sit down and read it cover to cover more than once?  It's not all equally relevent to where you are all of the time.

It's a wonderful book.  I just read daily--a little in the Old, and a little in the New, each day, consecutively.  

In the Old, I'm in Ester right now; in the New, I'm in John(gospel).

I liked Chronicles.  I like any of the books, b/c I like to see what unusuals there are in each.  E.g., God is not mentioned at all in Ester.  Even in the lists, I like to see what names there are there, even if I can pronounce them, or try to guess how originally they might have been pronounced.  

Egypt was a person, for instance(not just a country).  "Hur" was a real family(thus the book and movie, "Ben Hur").

Or the giant with eleven fingers and eleven toes.

The richness and depths are unending.

So I've no idea how many times I've "read it through".  I just read!

Everytime I read the Word, there`s  new insights into it`s unending depths of truth, this Book never grows old!

I've never read the Bible all the way through. In fact, I can safely say that the only books I've read all the way through are the gospels, Revelation, and Song of Songs.

Not Leviticus or Numbers?   :D

I have actually read through the Bible twice...beyond that I do like Symphony.

I think everybody should read all of the Bible at least once. Throughout reading it, and after reading it, I realized how much misinformation is spread because people take other people's word for it since they haven't read the Bible themselves. I'm not even talking about different interpretations of what scripture means by this or that. I'm talking about things that are blatantly false. Blatantly, that is, now that I've read the bible, but previously were believable.

Each time I read the Bible I get more out of it........ its kind of like afavorite book. You reread you learn more.
But I don't read it back to back........ I allow some time to pass and start reading it again. :D

No those two books aren't that bad for me. :D

 :) I have read the Bible about maybe 2-3 times.....I still read it, and I'm still learning more........It's always good to read the Bible as much as possible though. :D :) ;D

 :)I agree with Dream Weaver about learning more every time we read this sacred book.  The chapters on War annoy me and sometimes I skip them.  I suffer from chronic eczema and get fed up with suffering and bad news.  There will be better times ahead of us if we are saved.  I have read the Bible about 7 times.  Everybody should read it the whole way through at least once. ;D

I have been doing the Bible in a Year plan for a few years now.
I checked 6-10. I've been saved for 10 years now.
Before getting saved, I read the entire Bible in a few months.
After that, my goal was to read it through in a year.
Unfortunately, I think I'm closer to 6 times than 10 times.

I just finished the Chronicles and I have to say that I really enjoyed them this time around. In the past they were hard for me to read too. This time I couldn't wait to get up in the morning and read more! I'm finding the same with Ezra. The Lord has really blessed me this time with a desire to learn more about Him. I still struggle with some of the books like Numbers.

In response to ebia's post. Why more than once? Because it's good reading and a wise way to live one's life. Do you believe what the Word of God says? I do and I know that if I want to grow in Him, I need to immerse myself in His teachings daily.

I am also reading To Kill a Mockingbird. I am enjoying it. I will probably read it again in a few years. If I read it again, should I only read parts of it- you know, the stuff that's revelant to my life? To Kill a Mockingbird is about a young girl growing up in the depression in the deep south. Now, I did spend the first 10 years of my life in South Carolina, however, I doubt much of the rest of the book would help me with the struggles I face as a Christian midwestern wife and homeschool mom who pays her bills as a Wal*Mart associate. I sure would miss out on a lot of the book the next time I read it.

In my reading in a year, I'm reading Ezra.
I read a Proverb a day.
For my personal walk, I'm reading Psalms. I just finished 118 and will probably only read 119 tomorrow.

Also, some of us have a hard time remembering all the details the first time through.
It helps to read it over and over again so that we can remember what the Bible actually says.
It also helps us if someone wants to know where the Bible addressed a specific area, it is much easier to point them the right direction if we've read it a few times.

I search to and fro in it on a particular point, or subject, or thought, or word.

I have to read several verses before and several verses after any given verse thrown out in a study in order to get the context of the verse.

I've read every book of the Bible, just some of them not all the way through.  I plan on reading the Bible completely through though by the end of this year.
