Title: Preparing for Seminary Post by: Vivaldi on April 18, 2004, 03:25:11 PM I am planning on starting Seminary this fall. Moving from a music education position to a classroom Bible learner has me a bit freaked out. I am wondering if there are any who would recommend things that I can do this summer to help me prepare for this awesome learning experience.
Excited to learn, Vivaldi Title: Re:Preparing for Seminary Post by: Broken on April 18, 2004, 05:45:00 PM Hey Vivaldi,
I'm not sure quite how the American education system works, but over here, at least where I studied there were plenty of mature students, studying again after work, and they were never made to feel left out or anything. Has your seminary given you a list of books you will be using during the term? If you can read through those before you go, you will find it a great help, and if you're going to be learning any languages while you're there, then doing the basic exercises (learning vocabulary/the new script) before you go will be invaluable as it is those which can make you fall behind at the start. Really, reading is the most important preparation you can do - especially if you're not going straight from school into seminary, because you might be out of practise at studying (or not, you never know). Reading through basic or general books about various topics (like, there is a good book called the new eusebius about church history which covers a lot of things, and there was a book I used which covered the basics of each book in the bible and the intertestamental literature). One of the things I would have found useful when I was in first year was a good computer Bible program. I've got one now, but I only realised how useful they are until later! Browsing through the internet and bookmarking good (academic) sites like religion-online and ccel will serve you later too. Um, thats about all I can think of right now! Good luck! Title: Re:Preparing for Seminary Post by: Shylynne on April 22, 2004, 08:35:31 AM Read your Bible, Pray every day! :)
Thats not a glib answer, it`s the best thing you can do to prepare, since most Seminary classes revolve around bible studies, and are not as difficult, as they are indepth, and require quite a bit of after class time going over what you learned in class and assignments. I also suggest some time of fasting, it will help you prepare spiritually for the spiritual feast that awaits you. :) God bless Title: Re:Preparing for Seminary Post by: Allinall on April 22, 2004, 09:14:22 AM What type of Baptist? Independent, fundamental, militant, separatist, evangelical, orthodox Bapticostal. ;D Title: Re:Preparing for Seminary Post by: Allinall on April 22, 2004, 09:18:01 AM I am planning on starting Seminary this fall. Excited to learn, Vivaldi Seriously speaking Brother, I'd pick your pastor''s brain while you have the chance. Read suggested books he directs you to. Get hooked up with as many service opportunities as he can plug you into, and like Shylynne said, stay in the word. Moreover, let the word stay in you. :) Which reminds me something about Proverbs 1... ;D |
