To me, He is God very God, made Man very Man.  He is fully God and fully Man, preexistent, incarnate, sinlessly perfect, and redeemer of mankind.  What is He to you?

Jesus, the Christ, of Nazareth;

Savior in the Christian faith
great teacher by disciples and common people
----
Lord of Lords, King of Kings
----
Died on the cross as the payment for man's sin; believed by followers of Jesus to have been miraculously raised from the dead.
By diciples and believers as Messiah (the expected king and deliverer of the Jews) and savior of all.

the Alpha and the Omega. The beginning and the last.

"God very God made flesh" (out of those choices) ;D

Jesus is ALL.

Col 2:3  In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Col 2:9  For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

Col 2:10  And ye are complete in him which is the head of all principality and power:

"King and Friend"

Another ditto, DITTO!

Let me go as far to say - He is everything that means anything.

Kinda makes you want to go running through a green pasture, huh?  ;D

With a BIG grin on your face that REALLY annoys Satan.  ;D

Oklahoma Howdy to JudgeNot,

AMEN BROTHER!

YES!, I love the thoughts of Jesus being the Great Shepherd, me being one of HIS flock, and HIM watching over me for Eternity. Psalms 23 is one of my favorite portions of Scripture. Brother, HIS rod and HIS staff comforts us during this short life, and we will dwell in HIS house forever. I also love to hear and sing the old hymn "How Great Thou Art".

Thanks be unto God for HIS unspeakable GIFT!

Love In Christ,
Tom

Quote
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.

He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Psalm 23

Tom, you said some beautiful things about this Psalm which is also one of my favorite passages.  And I thought I'd share a thought or two of mine on this passage.

The LORD is my Shepherd...[/i]  I like this because a sheep doesn't chose, control, or otherwise manipulate his shepherd.  He strays, but it is always the shepherd who is in control.  He is my Shepherd.  Not was.  Is.

I shall not want...[/i]  I believe that this is contextually in reference to provision, not desire.  I will never have need of anything my Shepherd will not provide for me.  If I don't have it, I don't need it.  I shall not want for anything!  Makes me rethink just what I believe I need in this life.

He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters... [/i]  He puts me to rest in the greenest, most calming and refreshing places.  I often times get so busy-bodied about what lies ahead.  What will I do here?  When will I go there?  How will I do this?  When I need to be asking myself, "Is the grass green?" And "Is the water calm?"  If so...then just lay down.  Let go.  Let God.  Obey and rest in the victory He provides.

He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake...[/i]  The rest He provides isn't restless.  It restores, not flesh and blood, but my soul.  He gives me the strength to go on in every aspect of my life, spiritually strengthened as only He can.  He leads me in, literally, "right paths."  The direction I'm headed, if following Him, is always right, to the glory of His name.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me...[/i]  I love this part!  If I'm in this dark valley of death...it IS[/b][/u] the right path.  Why?  Because He leads me there, protects me there, strengthens and comforts me there.  My peace is not dependent upon circumstance.  It is rooted in Him.

Continued...

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows...
[/i]  Just when it looks darkest in that death valley...God prepares a feast!  In the culture in which this was written, one ate lying down.  You didn't readily lie down in the middle of your enemies!  This speaks volumes to me of God simply saying, "The pasture is green.  The water is calm.  This path is right because I have led you here for My Name's sake.  I, not you, have the rod and staff.  I, not you, will protect you here.  And if you have pain, then that is right.  If you suffer, then that is fine because you shall not want for anything in My care."  So I eat, I rest, and I let God's blessings overflow from my life and into the lives of those around me.  Beautiful picture that overflowing cup, isn't it?  Uniquely too, as a thought, in the OT the annointing oil always precluded God-ordained service.  When God fills us to overflowing, He prepares us to share His blessings with others...to serve Him.  To His glory.  And even more uniquely?  You don't get here until you "lie down" when the pastures are green and the waters are calm.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever...
[/i]  David viewed this as "goodness" and "mercy."  Do I?  I should!  Because He cares, provides, and protects me as only the Great Shepherd can.

Thanks for bringing up this passage Tom!  Reminded me of some things I was not thinking of.   :)

Thanks,

"The Lord is my sheperd" ... one of my earliest memeories is Mom reading that to us at bedtime, sometimes we know the 'words' toowell. Thanks for the  'expounding' was a blessing to read.

To rest in HIM ..... My spirit wishes to rest in Him my flesh wants to fight this valley... I pray my spirit wins....

Jesus to me is the Lord Jesus Christ -- GOD MINAIFEST IN THE FLESH -- the Son of God and the second Person of the Holy Trinity. Scripture says that in Him dwelleth ALL THE FULNESS OF THE GODHEAD bodily.  That is an awesome description of Christ.

Oklahoma Howdy to Allinall,

AMEN BROTHER!

I loved your thoughts on Psalms 23. I have different beautiful thoughts every time I read this precious portion of Scripture. Brother, your thoughts were particularly beautiful.

Psalms 23 also has special significance to Christian police officers. We read this portion of Scripture and prayed many times before going on duty and on dangerous assignments. I think that Psalms 23 has a beautiful message for all Christians, especially when we face difficult situations or crisis. Our Great Shepherd is always there to lead and guide us. We simply need to seek HIS WILL for us and lay our burdens at HIS feet in prayer. HE loves to hear our prayers. In fact, HE loves to hear our prayers for guidance before we stray and before any crisis. This could and should be a part of our daily fellowship with our Precious Lord and Saviour.

Love In Christ,
Tom

Very true brother.  We are great crisis time prayer warriors, but do we pray enough beforehand?  I don't.  Not nearly enough.  Thanks for pointing me in the right direction my friend.   :)
