Title: How do you answer?
Post by: WillGreek on March 14, 2004, 01:44:31 PM
Mt 1:16
And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

Now listen to the English here in Mt 1:16, Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus,...

Ah ha, Joseph a male, Mary a female, Joseph husband of Mary, Mary wife of Joseph. Jesus born of
Joseph and Mary as husband and wife. Ah ha!

But why is this NOT so? Just using Mt 1:16, tell me why this is NOT so?

From this verses, we can found many facts :
a) Joseph's father is Jacob
b) Joseph marry Mary (rather confused)
c) JESUS was born from Mary

these 3 facts doesn't prove that JESUS was born from Joseph and Mary. the quote "of whom was born Jesus" only refers to Mary and not to Joseph

Mary was mother to 4 sons and at least 3 daughters other than Jesus.

Mat 13
55  Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?
56  And his sisters, are they not all with us?

Mk 6
3  Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us?

We can account for 5 sons of Mary, and a minimum of two daughters, however 3, would not unreasonable assumption.

This includes Jesus.

Blessings,

Petro

Thanks Petro,
I should have been more clear in my question. Pardon the expression but i was looking for 'Backup" to the scripture. I guess i should not be so lazy and find some history books.

Sorry, for my (not so good) explanation. but aren't we suppose to use only Mt 1:16 as an basic explanation. When we quote from other verses, i think this topic wouldn't be too complicated. We can't taking assumption only from little verses. Please forgive me if i acting arrogant (i'm not). Jesus is GOD HIMSELF, and we all know that. Let's not discuss about basic topic.
Hebrew 6 : 1
"Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance form dead works, and of faith towards God."
