Title: Anyone been to the City of Rocks? Post by: Whitehorse on March 13, 2004, 09:09:45 PM Sounds like a neat place. There's a pretty good climbing guide by Falcon books.
Sounds like a neat place to visit. :D Title: Re:Anyone been to the City of Rocks? Title: Re:Anyone been to the City of Rocks? Post by: JudgeNot on March 18, 2004, 04:13:53 PM Diablo is "devil". Yea, yea - I know, living in the shadow of Mt. Diablo (Devil Mountain) is kinda weird...
Everything around here is "Diablo" - the valley I live in, the school districts, businesses - devil this, devil that. Title: Re:Anyone been to the City of Rocks? Post by: ollie on March 18, 2004, 08:11:38 PM Rock City atop Lookout Mountain, Chattanooga, Tennessee.
I forget how many states one can view from Lookout Mountain. Don't forget to ride the Incline Railway to the top. Title: Re:Anyone been to the City of Rocks? Post by: Tibby on March 18, 2004, 08:24:11 PM I think they call it diablo because of the state it is in ;D And I'm not referring to the heat ;) ;D
Title: Re:Anyone been to the City of Rocks? Post by: Whitehorse on March 20, 2004, 12:41:36 AM Diablo is "devil". Yea, yea - I know, living in the shadow of Mt. Diablo (Devil Mountain) is kinda weird... Everything around here is "Diablo" - the valley I live in, the school districts, businesses - devil this, devil that. I used to wonder about all the references to the devil in landmarks. The devil's soupbowl, devil's mount, devil's this that and the other, an one day I was reading about one such locale which I can no longer remember, but I can probably find it. It was in a place where a battle took place, and it was a reference to all the suffering and dying of war. But a mountain, I'm not sure how that happened, but the idea of war does open up possibilities. Ollie, I've been to Lookout mountain. Very nice. Tib, I think I know what you mean. But truthfully, a goodly portion of America and all around the world would deserve that description as well, I'm afraid! Title: Re:Anyone been to the City of Rocks?
