THE FOUNDATION

“When occasions present themselves, in which the interests of the people are at variance with their inclinations, it is the duty of the persons whom they have appointed to be the guardians of those interests, to withstand the temporary delusion, in order to give them time and opportunity for more cool and sedate reflection.” —Alexander Hamilton (1788)

IN BRIEF

McConnell Turning Tables on Democrat Impeachers10

“In point of fact, the House has no impeachment inquiry; congressional Democrats have an impeachment political campaign,” argues11 National Review’s Andrew McCarthy. And so long as impeachment remains nothing more than the Democrats’ second attempt at a coup12 — a narrative meant solely to boost their election prospects in 2020 — it will plainly be political theater at its cheapest and most craven.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell sees it for what it is, and the upper chamber of Congress, which will try President Donald Trump if and when the House ever gets around to impeaching him, will prove to be the sane chamber. In a campaign video, McConnell says that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is “in the clutches of a left-wing mob that finally convinced her to impeach the president.” However, he adds. “The way that impeachment stops is with a Senate majority with me as majority leader.”

McConnell must firmly believe that there is not enough evidence to oust Trump or he wouldn’t assert this far in advance that the Senate will kill the effort. He’s also clearly hanging this political charade around Democrat necks.

On a final note, Democrats have, for effect, compared the proposed Trump impeachment with that of Richard Nixon — but there is a BIG difference and it betrays a remarkable double standard.

Nixon was rightly impeached and resigned because he attempted to conceal the fact that operatives within his administration used FBI and CIA personnel to uncover what they believed were communist influencers in the Democrat Party. That was exposed with the botched attempt to steal DNC files from its office in the Watergate building — though, notably, Nixon was not orchestrating these tactics.

However, in the case of both the 2016 Russia-collusion hoax13 and the current Ukraine quid-pro-quo hoax12, Democrats are the ones using deep-state operatives within the FBI and CIA to frame a sitting president to obstruct his agenda across the board. Don’t wait on The Washington Post to devote six months of headlines to the Democrat deep-state conspiracy.

Dems Expand Ukraine Charade With Second ‘Whistleblower’14

As the Ukraine charade enters its third week, a second “whistleblower” has come forward according to Mark Zaid, attorney for the first “whistleblower15.” This second whistleblower, also an intelligence official, claims to have first-hand information corroborating some of the initial complaint16. It is likely, since this new whistleblower is not offering a new complaint but is rather supporting the original complaint, that this second individual is seeking protection to prevent himself from being exposed as a source for the first whistleblower. Indeed, Zaid seemingly confirmed this, stating that the second individual “made a protection disclosure under the law and cannot be retaliated against.” Furthermore, Zaid claimed that “there are definitely multiple whistleblowers,” so it’s looking like everyone behind this complaint is seeking cover.

However, there may be another reason why more “whistleblowers” are now suddenly coming forward, claiming to have first-hand knowledge that allegedly corroborates the original complaint.

Last Friday, Intelligence Community Inspector General (ICIG) Michael Atkinson testified before the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, but he continued to stonewall lawmakers’ efforts to get answers for why the whistleblower form was secretly changed17 to eliminate a first-hand knowledge requirement — a change apparently made in September following the whistleblower’s complaint. As The Federalist reports, “Despite having a full week to come up with explanations for his office’s decisions to secretly change its forms to eliminate the requirement for first-hand evidence and to backdate those changes to August, Atkinson refused to provide any explanation to lawmakers baffled by his behavior.”

Atkinson’s refusal to answer only serves to bolster suspicions that Democrats, led by Rep. Adam Schiff, are behind this whole whistleblower fiasco. Schiff has been exposed as a liar by none other than The Washington Post over his claim that he had no advanced knowledge of the whistleblowers complaint, when in fact he at the very least knew about the complaint18 before it was even submitted to the ICIG. Furthermore, as Atkinson confirmed that the whistleblower was a politically motivated Democrat.

Finally, as this Democrat-orchestrated scandal further unfolds, several text messages between Trump administration officials have been selectively released to the media in an effort to prop up the anti-Trump narrative about a quid pro quo. Never mind the fact that the former American envoy to Ukraine, Kurt Volker, gave testimony regarding the texts before the House last Thursday and repudiated the Democrats’ impeachment narrative. As Jim Jordan, ranking Republican on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, stated: “Not one thing [Volker] said comports with any of the Democrats’ impeachment narrative. Not one thing.” Rep. Dan Crenshaw also observed, “One key fact about [Thursday’s] closed-door witness interview [with Volker] — Republicans are the ones calling for public release of the deposition transcript. That should tell you something. Democrats prefer narratives, not facts.”

OPINION IN BRIEF

Peggy Noonan: “Members of the investigating committees have to understand that in hearings they are not talking to the media, they are not talking to the Democratic base, and they are not talking to cable news. It’s not about the hot exchange with a witness or a dramatic sound bite. You’re talking to the American people. The impressions of fair-minded centrists and swing voters will be everything. And they will see right through your sound bites and Spartacus moments. You won’t impress them that way. They will turn on you if you give them only showbiz. … During Watergate there was a guy called Peter Rodino of New Jersey, head of the House Judiciary Committee — Democrat, Newark, pretty tough guy. He was no child, he was no naïf, he was a party man. But he was judicious and capable and ran his committee well. After it voted to impeach Nixon, he got on the phone with his wife and wept. ‘You know, he was our president,’ he told Susan Stamberg of NPR in 1989. That’s what the Democrats need, someone who’d be genuinely sad at taking out a president.”

SHORT CUTS

Insight: “Speech delivery counts for little on the world stage unless you have convictions, and, yes, the vision to see beyond the front row seats.” —Ronald Reagan

Upright: “[The Kavanaugh debacle] started with one complaint that wound up being unverifiable — a complaint against Judge Kavanaugh about a party that took place in high school 30 years ago, without any notice of where it happened and when it happened, and everybody described to be there said it didn’t happen, and five more allegations came after that. What did we learn in Kavanaugh? That they were coaching witnesses and they were piling on to try to create an impression that Judge Kavanaugh was a flawed human being. This is Kavanaugh all over again.” —Sen. Lindsey Graham connecting the dots regarding news of a second whistleblower

For the record: “I ain’t never made a decision only based on my color. That’s a form of … mental slavery.” —Kanye West on his support for President Trump

Noted: “This idea that I’m a crystal woo woo lady … to some extent amusing, has no relation to reality.” —Marianne Williamson

Braying jackass: “I think [the U.S. is] no longer a democracy if an autocrat has it in his hands, The democratic principles upon which this country are founded are eroding right now.” —former CIA Director and “Resistance” ringleader John Brennan

Braying jenny: “Do you know this is really unprecedented? This is the first time we’ve ever had a situation like this. So [Democrats are] trying to figure out — no joke — they’re trying to figure out, ‘Well, is it the DC police that goes and gets them?’ … I will tell them they can hold [Attorney General William Barr and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross] right here in Detroit. We’ll take care of them and make sure they show up to the committee hearings. We won’t hurt them.” —Rep. Rashida Tlaib on the issue of subpoena noncompliance

Deflecting: “No, it is not fair that the president of the United States is trying to get all of us to be talking about someone else [Hunter Biden] other than him. What he has engaged in is despicable behavior that was warned about by our founding fathers, by letting foreign governments try to intervene in our elections, and he is doing just that.” —Sen. Cory Booker

Grand delusions: “To me this is just like Watergate. … [Trump’s] decided to use his clout with world leaders and try to do it on a global basis. And then when they get caught, what do they do? They try to hide it on a super-secret server and have the information there. They didn’t have those back then in Watergate but it is the same kind of thing.” —Sen. Amy Klobuchar

And last… “Want to reduce carbon emissions? Buy a used car and drive it into the ground. If you buy a new Tesla, you don’t really care.” —Steven Crowder
