FEATURED ANALYSIS

‘Gay Pride’ Month — ‘LGBTQ’ Support Declines10

By Mark Alexander

June, so-called “Gay Pride Month,” ended on a low note for homosexual advocacy groups that promote gender confusion and identity dysphoria11 among young people. The trends regarding acceptance of that agenda among those 35 and under are showing promising signs of decline.

The nation’s oldest (1985) and one of its most prominent homosexual groups, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation12, which has since expanded its advocacy to include the other manifestations of gender confusion — LGBTQ+ (ad infinitum) — just received the results of opinion research13 it sponsors annually. And the news was not good … for homosexual advocacy.

The report notes: “Five years ago, GLAAD partnered with The Harris Poll to launch a unique index to measure Americans’ attitudes toward lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people and issues. In the first three years of the Harris Poll study, the Accelerating Acceptance report showed positive momentum year-over-year, with Americans stating they were more comfortable with LGBTQ people and more supportive of LGBTQ issues. … Last year, however, the acceptance pendulum abruptly stopped and swung in the opposite direction. More non-LGBTQ adults responded that they were ‘very’ or ‘somewhat’ uncomfortable around LGBTQ people in select scenarios. … The decline in acceptance and rise in discrimination found in the survey corresponded to an increase in hateful rhetoric in our culture.”

By “hateful rhetoric,” GLAAD is referring to the empowerment of dissenting social and cultural views that it attributes to Donald Trump’s14 election. However, I would argue that the decline in support for GLAAD’s constituency is the result of the absurd extent to which these thugs have taken their jack-boot agenda, from men invading girls’ dressing rooms and bathrooms to battles over the use of pronouns that dare imply there are only two genders. Of course, only the most reality-challenged heterophobic gender deniers15 argue that point.

In fact, the Harris survey results regarding what parents would want for their children is the most revealing trend indicator. Among the Left’s most dependable demographic of useful idiots16, those aged 18-34, a full third (33%) said they would not be comfortable with their children in a class with a gender-confused teacher — and that was up from 25% in 2016 and 29% in 2017. And 39% of young adults indicated they did not want their children exposed to an LGBTQ-themed history lesson, up from 27% and 30%, respectively, in 2016 and 2017. The survey also found that only 45% of young people indicated they were “very” or “somewhat” comfortable around gender-confused/dysphoric individuals — and that was down from 63% and 53%, respectively, in 2016 and 2017. The number of young people indicating they would be distressed by finding out a family member was homosexual rose from 29% in 2017 to 36% in 2018.

Remarkably, there was a significant drop in acceptance among young women — 64% were “comfortable” with homosexuals in 2017, down to 52% in 2018. As I have noted previously, women voters are the largest Democrat Party17 voting block, and their collective LGBT sympathy18 is a major reason Democrats pander to that gender-confused subset.

Harris Poll CEO John Gerzema tipped his biased hand with this observation about his company’s GLAAD poll: “We count on the narrative that young people are more progressive and tolerant. These numbers are very alarming and signal a looming social crisis in discrimination.” According to GLAAD President Sarah Kate Ellis, the “rise in divisive rhetoric both in politics and in culture” has had “a negative influence on younger Americans.” She insists that “LGBTQ people and allies must urgently address today’s cultural crisis by being visible and vigilant.”

However, as I previously noted, the outcome of homosexual advocates “being visible and vigilant” is precisely why their support is dropping. Glenn Stanton of Focus on the Family19 agrees. He says that the drop in acceptance is because “the ‘gay’ movement continues to over-play its hand and that will certainly continue.” He adds, “Rather than simply being ‘live and let live,’ they are forcing Americans to embrace their politics, and often with overwhelming muscle and the life-crushing public accusations of a person’s so-called ‘bigotry’ and ‘hatefulness’ if they dare disagree.”

As for the absurd gender-pronoun variants, GLAAD’s Ellis notes that it’s “a newness that takes time for people to understand.” Or it takes time for people to reject.

The most ridiculous example of corporate support for gender-pronoun confusion came when Nabisco announced a new packaging scheme for its Oreo cookies: “We’re proud to celebrate inclusivity for all gender identities and expressions. In partnership with National Council of Teachers of English, we’re giving away special edition Pronoun Packs and encouraging everybody to share their pronouns with Pride today and every day.” Seriously, Nabisco’s advertising department has become that detached from gender reality.

Regarding how LOUD the “LGBT+” crowd has become, another just-released research report20 found that Americans think one in four people are LGBT+. According to the report, “Americans’ estimate of the proportion of gay people in the U.S. is more than five times Gallup’s more encompassing 2017 estimate that 4.5% of Americans are LGBT, based on respondents’ self-identification as being lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.”

Finally, for those who are quick to label others who don’t embrace their gender-bending orthodoxy as “haters,” we as Christians are called to love other sinners but not to embrace sin21. That distinction is too often lost in rancorous rhetoric from the Left, as was the case over the weekend during New York’s “gay pride” parade. The storefront of a Chick-fil-A in Manhattan was desecrated with signs reading “F—k haters,” a reference to the fact the business is Christian owned. Of course, the “haters” were those who posted that message.

Antifa Thugs Attack Journalist; Other Journalists Pile On22

The so-called “antifa” movement23 — which supposedly stands for “anti-fascism” — is, in fact, a fascist movement of radical leftists who are perfectly happy to use violence when it suits their purposes. Journalist Andy Ngo was on the receiving end of antifa brutality over the weekend in Portland, Oregon.

Ngo, whose Twitter profile notes that he’s “hated by antifa,” was covering the movement’s march in Portland on Saturday when he was attacked by 20 or so antifa thugs. They stole or destroyed thousands of dollars of his camera equipment and beat him physically, sending him to the ER with a brain bleed.

Of course, some “real” journalists in the Leftmedia don’t count Ngo as one of them; he writes for Quillette, National Review, and Spectator USA. Thus, after the beating, the same Leftmedia outfits still writing stories about Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s24 murder at the hands of the Saudis nearly a year ago went on the attack … against Ngo.

Various reports blamed him for the assault — or at least implied that he had it coming — because he’s engaged in an “information war,” writes to provide “ammunition for a culture war,” he “antagonizes those he knows will react in a disproportionate way,” and he’s “one of the leading amplifiers of Islamophobia” who “participates in white supremacist violence.” Ngo is … not a white guy. In fact, he’s Asian and a homosexual.

It’s true this condemnation of Ngo wasn’t universal, but it was widespread. Yet as Erick Erickson pointedly notes, “Just a few months ago, Time magazine named journalists as their ‘person of the year’ given both the sustained abuse journalists are subjected to and the President’s ongoing verbal attacks on the press.”

As for antifa, once again the movement has been revealed for what it is. Moreover, “One gets the impression that Antifa rules Portland with the same impunity that the Ku Klux Klan ruled Birmingham in the 1960s,” writes Rod Dreher. “Do they actually have police in Portland? Do they have functioning government there?” The questions practically answer themselves.

We wish Mr. Ngo a speedy and full recovery.

TOP NEWS EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

HONG KONG UNREST: “Police clashed with protesters trying to storm Hong Kong’s legislature on Monday, the anniversary of the semiautonomous territory’s return to China, prompting authorities to issue an unprecedented ‘red alert’ and deepening a crisis that is testing Beijing’s grip.” (The Washington Post33)

IRAN FLOUTS DEAL: “Iran has exceeded a key limitation on how much nuclear fuel it can possess under the 2015 international pact curbing its nuclear program, effectively declaring that it would no longer respect an agreement that President Trump abandoned more than a year ago, state media reported on Monday.” (The New York Times34)

BARRIER BAN EXPANDED: “A federal judge on Friday expanded a ban on construction of President Trump’s signature southern border wall that would have used money secured under his declaration of a national emergency, but that Congress never approved for the purpose. … In his order granting a permanent halt on the construction, Gilliam also cleared the path for an immediate appeal.” (The Washington Post35)

FELON-VOTE LIMITATIONS: “The historic effort to allow more than a million felons in Florida to vote hit a roadblock Friday when Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) signed a bill limiting which can register.” (The Washington Post36)

PREPARING FOR GUN CONTROL: “The bustle inside LAX Ammunition on the Friday before Father’s Day betrayed the gloom of the outside sky. Employees inside the Los Angeles-area gun shop had their hands full chatting with customers who were looking to replenish their ammo supply before July 1, with some customers spending hundreds of dollars in the process. Why the hurry? That’s the day a new state law will require almost all buyers to go through background checks before being able to buy bullets, potentially increasing the amount of time and money it takes to make purchases.” (USA Today37)

‘BACK ON TRACK’: “President Trump said the U.S. would resume trade talks with Beijing and would hold off on imposing new tariffs on $300 billion worth of Chinese goods. The announcement followed a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Osaka, Japan, during the G-20 summit with world economic leaders.” (Washington Examiner38)

OIL MILESTONE: “U.S. crude output soared to new heights in April, highlighting OPEC’s dilemma just days before the producer group meets amid growing geopolitical threats. A government report on Friday showed U.S. production grew 2.1% in April to 12.16 million barrels a day. Booming shale production from places like the Permian basin of West Texas have enabled U.S. oil output to overtake Saudi Arabia and Russia.” (Bloomberg39)

RAMIFICATIONS ON OPEC: “Global oil supplies will increase far more than demand next year with the start of a host of new projects, putting further pressure on the OPEC cartel, the International Energy Agency said. Even though growth in world oil demand will accelerate to 1.4 million barrels a day in 2020, it will be eclipsed by a 2.3 million barrel-a-day surge in output, as the ongoing boom in U.S. shale is augmented by new fields in Brazil, Norway and Canada.” (Houston Chronicle40)

OPINION IN BRIEF

Andrew C. McCarthy42: “No one wants an all-out war with Iran. Americans have no interest in invading and occupying another Muslim country — least of all Iran. Its rich culture and sophisticated populace provide grounds for hope that we can have cordial relations with Iran in the future. But the current impediment to cordial relations, and the reason nuclear weapons would be intolerable, is the regime. It is one of the world’s most despicable governments, and it is incorrigibly anti-American. So, of course our goal should be regime change. No, we do not want to invade to achieve it, but it should still be our objective. The president should not be shy about saying so, or about turning all levers of government power (political, diplomatic, legal, and covert, as well as military and financial) in that direction. It would be a good way of setting expectations for the mullahs, for the craven European governments that want us to appease the mullahs, and for the Iranian people we would like to see rise up against the mullahs.”

SHORT CUTS

The Gipper: “We in government should learn to look at our country with the eyes of the entrepreneur, seeing possibilities where others see only problems.” —Ronald Reagan

Political futures: “The debates have certainly demonstrated Democrats are now basically committed, as a field, to decriminalizing illegal entry to the United States amid an unprecedented migrant surge and that several of their front-runners are committed to the swift elimination of private insurance. Those are clarifying pieces of information, to put it mildly.” —Ross Douthat

Nope: “There is no doubt that the Russians did interfere in the election, and I think the interference, although not yet quantified, if fully investigated would show Trump didn’t actually win the election in 2016. He lost the election, and he was put into office because the Russians interfered on his behalf.” —Jimmy Carter

From the Department of Corrections: “In a story June 27 about the Democratic presidential debate, The Associated Press reported erroneously in some versions that former Vice President Joe Biden worked with Republican segregationist senators. In fact, the senators were Democrats.” —Associated Press

Non Compos Mentis: “Every woman gets to choose her word. Every woman gets to choose how she describes it. This is my way of saying it. This is my word. My word is ‘fight.’ My word is not the victim word. I have not been raped. Something has not been done to me. I fought, that’s the thing.” —Trump rape accuser E. Jean Carroll

Non sequitur: “We already pay for the health care of undocumented immigrants. It’s called the emergency room. People show up in the emergency room and they get care, as they should.” —Julian Castro (“This does not void the patient’s responsibility to pay for the provided healthcare in the future.” —Ellie Bufkin)

Submit, comrades! “If you support Medicare for All, you have to be willing to end the greed of the health insurance and pharmaceutical industries. That means boldly transforming our dysfunctional system by ending the use of private health insurance, except to cover non-essential care like cosmetic surgeries. And it means guaranteeing health care to everyone through Medicare with no premiums, no deductibles and no copays. It is imperative that we remain steadfast in our commitment to guarantee health care as a human right and no longer allow private corporations to make billions of dollars in profits off Americans’ health care.” —Sen. Bernie Sanders

And last… “While we rightly condemn [antifa] for violence and rightly categorize them as a terrorist organization, we should also remember that they are individually a bunch of weak, scrawny cowards who wouldn’t dare go one-on-one against any of the people they harass and assault. One of these days, the Antifa thugs are going to try this crap against a gun owner. And they are going to completely deserve the consequences.” —Matt Walsh
