The answer would be, An inviolable respect for the Constitution and Laws — the first growing out of the last… A sacred respect for the constitutional law is the vital principle, the sustaining energy of a free government.” —Alexander Hamilton (1794) https://patriotpost.us/fqd/62254-founders-quote-daily IN TODAY’S EDITION DHS shakeup is meant to address border crisis.1 Democrat 2020 hopefuls still need Al Sharpton’s approval.2 Daily Features: More Analysis3, Columnists4, Headlines5, Opinion in Brief6, Short Cuts7, Memes8, and Cartoons9. IN BRIEF DHS Reset to Battle Border Crisis10 As the dust settles following a whirlwind of events leaving the top leadership positions at both the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement suddenly open, many are questioning President Donald Trump’s rationale. Everything started last Friday when seemingly out of the blue Trump pulled his nomination of Ronald Vitiello for director of ICE. Trump’s explanation for his decision left many befuddled given Vitiello’s 30-year history with ICE and tough talk about walls11. “Ron’s a good man,” Trump stated, “but we’re going in a tougher direction.” It appears that Trump’s decision didn’t sit well with DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, who on Sunday tendered her resignation. In her resignation letter12, Nielsen wrote, “Despite our progress in reforming homeland security for a new age, I have determined that it is the right time for me to step aside.” She also implied that much of the blame for the current border crisis lay with Congress, writing, “I hope that the next Secretary will have the support of Congress and the courts in fixing the laws which have impeded our ability to fully secure America’s borders and which have contributed to discord in our nation’s discourse.” Kevin McAleenan, head of Customs and Border Protection, will act as Homeland Security secretary. A couple things can be gleaned from recent events. First, Trump is clearly frustrated by the DHS’s lack of success in stemming the migration crisis at the border — a crisis that, as Nielsen noted, Congress has thus far refused to act on. Worse, it’s a crisis Democrats have exacerbated for their own political aims, while they flippantly throw concern for national security and protecting the rights of American citizens under the bus. Meanwhile, by pulling Vitiello’s nomination, Trump claims a “get tougher” message, but his decision may also have been in deference to the opinion of senior adviser Stephen Miller and ICE union boss Chris Crane13. In other words, it looks like there was a lot of internal politics behind this decision. This also appears to be the motivation behind Nielsen’s decision. Nielsen, who supported Vitiello, recognized that change was coming, and maybe in a direction she was not as comfortable with. Second, the big picture. Trump is shaking things up in his effort to deal with the border crisis and make it the central political issue for the nation. Obviously, he believes that a leadership course change is necessary to meet his stated desire to get tougher on border security. Trump may also be seeking less pushback from within the DHS over his threats to shut down the southern border should Mexico not get more aggressive in efforts to stop the caravans of migrants flowing through its country. Arguably, one of the biggest issues that won Trump the presidency was his promise to aggressively tackle the problem of illegal immigration. Now as the border crisis seemingly only gets worse, Trump recognizes that if he doesn’t produce significant results, it could prove costly for his 2020 reelection bid. He knows Americans don’t want more of the same. https://patriotpost.us/articles/62253-dhs-reset-to-battle-border-crisis Democrats Still Kissing Sharpton’s Ring14 Several top Democrats flew into Manhattan over the weekend for the traditional airing of grievances at the “Reverend” Al Sharpton’s National Action Network convention. First, let’s take a moment to remember how Sharpton came to fame. In 1987, Sharpton created the template for hate-crime hoaxes like Jussie Smollett’s15 when he stumped for 15-year-old Tawana Brawley in a rape case. She claimed six white men, including some police officers, raped and assaulted her. Sharpton made it into a larger tale about white racism, but a grand jury found “overwhelming evidence” that she fabricated the story16. Meanwhile, Sharpton & Co. ended up being ordered to pay $345,000 for defamation of the prosecutor. Sharpton is a philandering tax cheat and racial con artist who’s made a fortune extorting businesses and individuals over concocted racism, all while hosting radio and TV shows, and even advising Barack Obama in the White House. In short, he exemplifies the person Booker T. Washington decried, when he wrote in 1911, “There is a class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs — partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs.” Yet 2020 Democrats are still kissing his ring. Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, Beto O'Rourke, Cory Booker, Elizabeth Warren, Kirsten Gillibrand, Amy Klobuchar, Julian Castro, Andrew Yang, and Pete Buttigieg all showed up for Sharpton’s confab. Frontrunner Sanders declared, “It gives me no pleasure to tell you that we have a president today who is a racist, who is a sexist, who is a homophobe, who is a xenophobe, and who is a religious bigot. I wish I did not have to say that. But that is the damn truth. … During Donald Trump’s presidency we have seen a sharp rise in hate crimes and that rise comes as this country continues to be plagued by institutional racism and racial inequality.” Warren peddled another hoax17 about the supposedly “stolen” gubernatorial election in Georgia and Republican election fraud in general: “Massive voter suppression prevented Stacey Abrams from becoming the rightful governor of Georgia. … They know that if all the votes are counted, we’ll win every time.” Democrats want certain constituents to believe that every Republican victory is due to fraud. Socialist heartthrob Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez urged Democrats to pursue an “agenda of reparations18” to go along with other unearned giveaways19 to win votes. All in all, the Democrat remarks were befitting an event put on by a charlatan like Sharpton. They claim to be for unity when all they do is sow division. https://patriotpost.us/articles/62251-democrats-still-kissing-sharptons-ring ON OUR WEBSITE TODAY Featured Analysis: Democrats Embrace Newspeak — But Talk Is Still Cheap20 — Three examples of leftists utterly changing meanings to suit their craven agenda. Devin Nunes this week will be sending the Justice Department eight criminal referrals pertaining to the Democrats’ Russian-collusion witch hunt. According to Nunes, the grounds for the referrals vary from “lying to Congress, misleading Congress, leaking classified information,” “conspiracy to lie to the FISA Court,” and “conspiracy … involving manipulation of intelligence.” He added, “There are about a dozen highly sensitive classified information leaks that were given to only a few reporters over the last two and a half-plus years, so we don’t know if there’s actually been any leak investigations that have been open, but we do believe that we’ve got pretty good information and a pretty good idea of who could be behind these leaks.” As the Examiner notes, “Nunes said … that the people ensnared in his eight-person referral ‘may not be all of them.’” “Acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney told ‘Fox News Sunday’ … that Democrats will ‘never’ see President Trump’s tax returns, days after a House Democrat committee chairman made the unprecedented demand that the IRS provide the documents,” according to Fox News29. As Mulvaney put it, “That’s an issue that was already litigated during the election. Voters knew the president could have given his tax returns. They knew that he didn’t and they elected him anyway. … If [Democrats] don’t get what they want in the Mueller report, they’re going to ask for the taxes. If they don’t get what they want in the taxes, they’re going to ask for something else.” According to the Des Moines Register30, “Sen. Bernie Sanders said people convicted of felonies should never lose access to the ballot box in the first place.” Sanders opined, “You’re paying a price, you committed a crime, you’re in jail. That’s bad. But you’re still living in American society and you have a right to vote.” Remember, some prisoners are murderers who took away another person’s right to vote. “A former House Democratic staffer pleaded guilty Friday to five federal offenses related to posting online the personal information of five Republican senators, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, during hearings for then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. … He is scheduled to be sentenced in Washington on June 13. He could face between two and five years in prison.” (Fox News31) The Daily Caller reveals32 that “Twitter appears to be one of the only big tech companies to back out of an alliance with the Southern Poverty Law Center after the group’s long-time president was fired for unspecified conduct reasons.” A Twitter employee explained, “The SPLC is not a member of Twitter’s Trust and Safety Council or a partner the company has worked with recently,” though the Caller says the source “did not disclose when Twitter distanced itself from the SPLC.” A conservative bloc wants other tech giants to follow suit33. “The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday handed another setback to gun rights advocates challenging President Donald Trump’s ban on ‘bump stock’ devices that enable semi-automatic weapons to fire rapidly,” Reuters reports34. “With two conservative justices dissenting, the court refused to temporarily exempt from the ban a group of plaintiffs including the Firearms Policy Foundation while their legal challenge continues to be litigated in Washington.” “President Trump said Friday he will skip this year’s White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) dinner and hold a rally instead. ‘The dinner is boring and so negative that we’re going to hold a very positive rally,’ Trump told reporters as he left the White House for a trip to the southern border. … The commander in chief has yet to attend the annual event during his presidency, bucking tradition and instead opting to hold campaign rallies the same night as the dinner.” (The Hill35) Humor: Joe Biden appointed as head of TSA (The Babylon Bee36) Policy: Campuses are broken because of what we teach (Washington Examiner37) Policy: The private sector must lead the way to 5G (National Review38) For more of today’s editors’ choice headlines, visit In Our Sights39. https://patriotpost.us/articles/62252-monday-top-news-executive-summary OPINION IN BRIEF Gary Bauer: “Whenever President Trump talks about illegal immigration, he frequently says that open borders means more crime. Predictably, left-wing pundits accuse the president of being ‘xenophobic,’ even though he often praises legal immigration. But the president is absolutely correct. Not every illegal immigrant coming across the border is looking for work and a better life. According to government statistics, illegal aliens make up 21% of the federal prison population. The 730,000 criminal aliens in state and federal prisons were responsible for 7.5 million offenses. … None of these crimes should have happened. The only reason they did happen is because of the gross malfeasance of liberal politicians who refuse to secure the border. … Trump is right when he says Democrats are the party of illegal immigration and crime.” SHORT CUTS Insight: “Those who say that we are in a time when there are no heroes just don’t know where to look.” —Ronald Reagan, Jan. 20, 198140 Non compos mentis: “You’re paying a price, you committed a crime, you’re in jail. So that’s not the reputation I’ve had since I was in high school, for God’s sake.” —Joe Biden43 A blind squirrel finds a nut: “President Trump is correct and the Republican leadership is correct that we need fierce, strict levels of control on [the southern] border to keep bad people from coming in. Illegal immigrants should not come in. I don’t want to get into a wall or anything, but I agree we should fund whatever we need to do to secure the border. The Democrats are not correct. We should be funding ICE and giving them all the tools and resources they need to secure the borders and arrest the bad people.” —Howard Schultz44 Delusions of grandeur: “At least I’m not trying to cage children at the border and inject them with drugs.
