Title: The Patriot Post Digest 3-27-2019 Post by: nChrist on March 27, 2019, 05:58:21 PM ________________________________ The Patriot Post Digest 3-27-2019 From The Federalist Patriot Free Email Subscription (http://patriotpost.us/subscription/new) _______________________________ The Patriot Post® · Mid-Day Digest Mar. 27, 2019 https://patriotpost.us/digests/62030-mid-day-digest THE FOUNDATION “It is of great importance to set a resolution, not to be shaken, never to tell an untruth. There is no vice so mean, so pitiful, so contemptible; and he who permits himself to tell a lie once, finds it much easier to do it a second and a third time, till at length it becomes habitual; he tells lies without attending to it, and truths without the world’s believing him. This falsehood of the tongue leads to that of the heart, and in time depraves all its good disposition.” —Thomas Jefferson (1785) https://patriotpost.us/fqd/62029-founders-quote-daily IN TODAY’S EDITION The political fix was in for Jussie Smollett.1 Apparently, Senate Democrats don’t want to “save our planet.”2 Daily Features: More Analysis3, Columnists4, Headlines5, Opinion in Brief6, Short Cuts7, Memes8, and Cartoons9. FEATURED ANALYSIS Smollett: Two-Tier Justice, Chicago Style10 Mark Alexander In a shocking turnabout (unless you are familiar with Chicago “justice”), Jussie Smollett’s lawyers announced, “All criminal charges … were dropped and his record has been wiped clean. … He was a victim who was vilified and made to appear as a perpetrator.” Corrupt Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx, the prosecutor, originally recused herself in the Smollett hate-hoax case11 after discovery of her text and email communications with some of Chicago’s well-connected political mobsters, who were seeking to have Smollett’s case dropped. In the end, their request prevailed — and the state’s attorney’s office abruptly dropped its prosecution of 16 felony counts against Smollett. According to the Cook County prosecutors’ office: “After reviewing all of the facts and circumstances of the case, including Mr. Smollett’s volunteer service in the community and agreement to forfeit his bond to the City of Chicago, we believe this outcome is a just disposition and appropriate resolution to this case.” They did so without securing an admission of guilt — so Smollett was free to proclaim his innocence. And Smollett did just that: “I have been truthful and consistent on every level since day one. … This has been an incredibly difficult time, honestly one of the worst of my entire life. But I am a man of faith… Now I would like nothing more than to just get back to work and move on with my life. But make no mistake, I will always continue to fight for the justice, equality and betterment of marginalized people everywhere.” I’m not sure who wrote those lines for him, but he’s still a bad actor. However, 20th Century Fox bought it, announcing his return to the network: “Jussie Smollett has always maintained his innocence and we are gratified that all charges against him have been dismissed.” Smollett’s assertion of innocence notwithstanding, the assistant state’s attorney insists, “We stand behind the investigation, we stand behind the decision to charge him, and we stand behind the charges in the case. The mere fact that it was disposed of in an alternative manner does not mean that there were any problems or infirmities in the case or the evidence.” In other words, he is guilty but is being released in exchange for his “community service” (18 hours stuffing envelopes for Jesse Jackson’s hate-hoax factory) and forfeiture of his $10,000 bond. I suspect most Democrats consider Smollett’s greater community service was diverting attention from Robert Mueller’s exoneration of Donald Trump12. The state’s attorney implied this decision was made purely on prioritization of what cases to prosecute and did not believe Smollett presented a threat to the public. But clearly prosecutors did not want to pursue a case against a black, leftist, homosexual celebrity after he had been embraced by Democrat presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Cory Booker, among others, because if this case went to trial, their foolish embrace of Smollett would be highlighted repeatedly. Of course, the Chicago Police Department is furious. Recall that the CPD has reams of solid evidence substantiating Smollett’s guilt, including phone records, video footage, magazines used to create the threat letter, a $3,500 check paid to his co-conspirators and their confessions, purchase records for the items used in the hoax assault — and CPD says it has more evidence13. Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson protested14: “Do I think justice was served? No. It was Mr. Smollett who committed this hoax. Period. If he wanted to clear his name, the way to do that was in a court of law. At the end of the day it was Smollett who committed this hoax.” Even leftist Mayor Rahm Emanuel claimed to be furious about this “whitewash of justice”: “Where is the accountability in the system? You cannot have, because of a person’s position, one set of rules apply to them and another set of rules apply to everyone else. Our officers did hard work day in and day out, countless hours working to unwind what actually happened that night. The city saw its reputation dragged through the mud. … It’s not just the officers’ work, but the work of the grand jury that made a decision based on only a sliver of the evidence [presented]. Because of the judge’s decision, none of that evidence will ever be made public. [This case] sends a clear message that if you’re in a position of influence and power, you’ll be treated one way, and if you’re not, you’ll be treated another way.” I say “claimed” because that’s the same Rahm Emanuel who did the bidding of Barack Obama15 and Hillary Clinton16 and her hubby Bill17. And speaking of the “countless hours working to unwind what actually happened that night,” in the weeks that CPD focused enormous resources on solving this high-profile attack-turned-hoax, 18 people were murdered in the Windy City. Chicago’s police union has asked the FBI to step in and investigate Foxx18. Specifically, police want to know how Michelle Obama’s former aide and Chicago fixer19, Tina Tchen, influenced the case20. (Ironically, it is Tchen21 who has been tapped by the board of the Southern Poverty Law Center22 to review allegations of sexual and racial discrimination23 under the “leadership” of its hate-hustling co-founders. Maybe she will determine those allegations were a hoax.) Now that the Smollett charges have been dropped and he has declared his innocence, shouldn’t he and his attorneys insist that the full resources of Chicago PD again be focused on finding the white racists who assaulted him? https://patriotpost.us/articles/62027-smollett-two-tier-justice-chicago-style Title: The Patriot Post Digest 3-27-2019 Post by: nChrist on March 27, 2019, 05:59:55 PM ________________________________ The Patriot Post Digest 3-27-2019 From The Federalist Patriot Free Email Subscription (http://patriotpost.us/subscription/new) _______________________________ Senate Demos Duck Green New Deal24 The Senate voted on the widely panned Green New Deal25 (GND) Tuesday, and it went down in spectacular flames, 0-57. All but three Democrats refused to vote either yes or no, instead courageously standing up for our planet by voting “present.” Last month, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell noted that there was “great interest in the Green New Deal.” Therefore, he said with a wry smile, “We’re going to be voting on that in the Senate. Give everybody an opportunity to go on record and see how they feel about the Green New Deal.” The GND, the $93 trillion26 socialist brainchild of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), has received vocal support from nearly every Democrat presidential candidate27, even as many leading economists warn how tremendously damaging the legislation would be for the U.S. economy should it become law. In fact, the GND is so bad that even Big Labor, the AFL-CIO, blasted the boondoggle28 because it “could cause immediate harm to millions of our members and their families.” Unions “will not stand by and allow threats to our members’ jobs and their families’ standard of living go unanswered.” Humorously, AOC is angry that the Senate voted on her GND. Clearly, her outrage is not because she’s seen the error of her ways. Rather it’s because she knew it had no chance of passing the Senate. “The GOP’s whole game of wasting votes in Congress to target others ‘on the record’, for [legislation] they have no intent to pass, is a disgrace,” she carped. AOC further alleged that McConnell29 “doesn’t want to save our planet.” Evidently, not a single Senate Democrat wants to “save our planet,” either. Worse, AOC insisted, McConnell “thinks we can drink oil in 30 years when all our water is poisoned.” Could we get a fact-checker on the line? Ironically, the GND’s primary Senate sponsor, Ed Markey (D-MA), is likewise incensed. “Don’t let Mitch McConnell fool you,” he groused last month. “This is nothing but an attempt to sabotage the movement we are building. He wants to silence your voice.” By letting you vote on your idea? After the vote, Markey asserted that Republicans “fail to understand” the Green New Deal “is not just a resolution. It is a revolution.” That’s exactly what conservatives oppose. The whole reason members propose legislation is in the hopes that it will be voted on — so it’s either passed or can be a record to show constituents how the member voted and why. AOC and Markey both know the GND simply won’t fly with the vast majority of Americans because, for all intents and purposes, it would turn the U.S. into Venezuela. But let’s just say for a moment that these ecofascists actually believe climate change is primarily or entirely caused by mankind, and that unless massive changes take place the earth is doomed in 12 years. Would they not want as many senators and representatives “on the record” as possible so they could then share that with the American people? As McConnell put it, “Do you believe it’s a prescription for America? Then why would you not want to vote for it?” The truth is AOC and Markey no more believe the earth is doomed in 12 years than do any of the Democrat presidential candidates. It isn’t about saving the planet; it’s about softening the beaches for the ideology of socialism, and McConnell just called their bluff. https://patriotpost.us/articles/62004-senate-demos-duck-green-new-deal ON OUR WEBSITE TODAY The Fight for Our Kids’ Minds Is the Fight for Our Republic30 — No wonder leftists are fighting Betsy DeVos’s reforms in court every step of the way. TOP NEWS EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The campaign to thwart Donald Trump’s veto of an earlier bill that would have voided his national-emergency declaration regarding border-barrier funding came up short31 in the House. According to Fox News37, “The House voted 248-181 on Tuesday in favor of overriding — but this fell 38 votes short of the two-thirds majority needed. Only 14 Republicans voted in favor of the veto override.” The Democrats’ continued obstruction on border security masques the real-world reality that the illegal-immigrant crisis is worsening by the day. According to NBC News38, “Daily attempts by undocumented immigrants to cross into the United States from Mexico over the past month surpassed daily averages not seen since fiscal year 2006.” The report adds, “On March 19, CBP officers and agents stopped or apprehended 3,974 immigrants, the highest single day since the beginning of the Trump administration. Six other days since mid-February have topped 3,595, surpassing the daily average of 3,530 in fiscal year 2006.” Reuters reports39 that “Attorney General William Barr plans to issue a public version of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report on the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election within ‘weeks, not months.’” Numerous pundits and lawmakers have demanded that the full report be released immediately, but vigilance is required. “Some portions of Mueller’s confidential report contain materials that arose during secret grand jury proceedings,” according to Reuters. “Federal rules generally prohibit the government from releasing that information to the public. The report also contains information about ongoing criminal investigations that Mueller referred to other U.S. attorneys offices.” Technically, Barr doesn’t have to release anything, so his decision to make what he can public is a nod to transparency. Townhall’s Katie Pavlich reports40, “Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced Tuesday morning the United States is expanding the Mexico City Policy, which bans U.S. taxpayer money from being used for abortions abroad, to include additional organizations supporting the life ending procedure.” According to Pavlich, “Pompeo also announced the enforcement of federal law banning the use of taxpayer dollars to lobby for abortion.” As Family Research Council President Tony Perkins points out41, “Only 19 percent of the country agrees with Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) that the U.S. should be using foreign aid as a front for Planned Parenthood.” Title: The Patriot Post Digest 3-27-2019 Post by: nChrist on March 27, 2019, 06:01:29 PM ________________________________ The Patriot Post Digest 3-27-2019 From The Federalist Patriot Free Email Subscription (http://patriotpost.us/subscription/new) _______________________________ Meanwhile, The Daily Wire’s Josh Hammer reveals42 that “Judge William Osteen of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina issued an opinion declaring unconstitutional North Carolina’s 20-week abortion ban.” A High Court reckoning may be coming, though. As Hammer also notes, “Prevailing U.S. Supreme Court abortion precedent allows a large role for the states in protecting fetal life. … Many conservatives … believe that the Supreme Court is bound to soon hear a landmark abortion case.” Indifference for life at the opposite end: “It’s a sad day for New Jersey, as the state is poised to become the latest in the nation to allow medically-assisted suicide for terminally-ill patients. On Monday, state lawmakers passed bills in the Senate and Assembly approving the ‘Medical Aid in Dying for the Terminally Ill Act,’ which would give patients with six months to live or less the right to medication that would end their life.” (Townhall43) In 2017 alone, 48,000 people died of opioids, which includes OxyContin. According to the Associated Press44, “The maker of OxyContin and the company’s controlling family agreed Tuesday to pay a groundbreaking $270 million to Oklahoma to settle allegations they helped create the nation’s deadly opioid crisis with their aggressive marketing of the powerful painkiller.” The AP further notes, “The deal comes two months before Oklahoma’s 2017 lawsuit against Purdue Pharma and other drug companies was set to become the first one in the recent barrage of litigation to go to trial. The remaining defendants still face trial May 28.” For the record: “Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts has denied an emergency request by gun owners’ groups to temporarily stay the Trump administration’s ban on bump stocks. The ban took effect at midnight Tuesday. … The Justice Department issued the ban on Dec. 26, effectively classifying bump stocks as machine guns ‘because such devices allow a shooter of a semiautomatic firearm to initiate a continuous firing cycle with a single pull of the trigger.’ Bump-stock owners were given 90 days to turn them in or destroy them.” (The Daily Beast45) Humor: Jussie Smollett utilizes tried-and-true ‘I have a lot of money" defense (The Babylon Bee46) Policy: The Heritage Foundation provides “5 Things the Senate’s 2020 Budget Would Do47.” Policy: Tax-policy analyst Chris Edwards outlines48 some needed government-spending reforms in areas including but not limited to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Defense, and Interest. And how could the president obstruct justice if no crime was committed to begin with? The answer, of course, is that discovering what is true is something that is of zero interest to Democrats. They have only one agenda: damaging this president and making it as difficult as possible for him to advance a conservative program.” SHORT CUTS For the record: “Mr. Trump didn’t collude with Russia, but he did defeat Mrs. Clinton.
