In fact it is only reestablishing under another name and a more specious form, force as the measure of right.” —James Madison (1786) https://patriotpost.us/fqd/61567-founders-quote-daily IN TODAY’S EDITION Phase Two of the Demo “Obstruct Trump” crusade is underway.1 Democrats want to change the rules of presidential elections.2 Daily Features: More Analysis3, Columnists4, Headlines5, Opinion in Brief6, Short Cuts7, Memes8, and Cartoons9. IN BRIEF Dems Launch Phase Two of ‘Obstruct Trump’ Crusade10 Thomas Gallatin On Monday, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) launched a second wave of the Democrats’ long-running attempt to take down President Donald Trump11. Using a dragnet approach, Nadler sent requests to more than 80 individuals, agencies, and entities for documents related to Trump’s personal, business, and political life, with the hope of finding something — anything — to justify impeaching the president. While admitting there was no evidence yet uncovered to support the allegation that Trump has actually engaged in any criminal activity, Nadler asserted, “Our goal is to hold the administration accountable for the obstruction of justice, the abuse of power and the corruption.” White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders had a different take, however, as she unmasked the Democrats’ real motives: “They’re not after the truth. They are after the president.” Rep. Doug Collins, the ranking Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, deftly called out the Democrats for their obvious witch hunt, stating, “We don’t even know what the Mueller report says, but Democrats are already hedging their bets. After recklessly prejudging the president for obstruction, Chairman Nadler is pursuing evidence to back up his conclusion because, as he admits, ‘We don’t have the facts yet.’” A few things to be pointed out regarding this predictable action taken by House Democrats: First and most significantly, Nadler’s actions make it patently clear that Democrats have determined12 Robert Muller’s forthcoming investigation report into the Trump/Russia collusion conspiracy will be a giant nothingburger. Second, it exposes the fact that Democrats are primarily committed to pursuing political power over and against what is good for the country. They care little for the consequences their actions may have on the economy, foreign policy, the Constitution, and future elections. Third, Democrats have coalesced and hardened around their number-one political issue: hatred of Trump. He must be hampered and obstructed at every turn, with the goal of either seeing him impeached or so politically damaged that he fails to win reelection. Since this is the course Democrats are committed to chart through 2020, expect only more of this politically motivated obstructionism from the donkeys. https://patriotpost.us/articles/61566-dems-launch-phase-two-of-obstruct-trump-crusade Blue States Ready to Subvert Electoral College13 Lewis Morris Rather than produce a top-quality presidential candidate who loves America and respects the Constitution, Democrats are working on a way to circumvent the Electoral College, the method by which we have elected presidents of the United States since 1789. Article 2, Section 1 lays out the system. But like most other aspects of constitutional Rule of Law, leftists hold it in contempt. The movement is called the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, and late last month it suckered in Colorado14 to join its ranks. Democrat Gov. Jared Polis said he would sign the bill, making Colorado the 13th state to join. “I’ve long supported electing the president by who gets the most votes,” Gov. Polis said. “It’s a way to move towards direct election of the president.” Sorry, Governor, but you are woefully misinformed. “Direct” election of the president is exactly what we don’t want. It wasn’t a goal in the Constitution, and it shouldn’t be a goal now. Had we gone that way in 201615, Hillary Clinton would have become president on the strength of her vote totals based almost exclusively on a handful of major urban hubs. Certainly not a candidate representative of the whole nation. Leftists would love a national popular vote for president. It would most assuredly give rise to greater voter fraud, further fracturing of the political system, and, despite leftist claims, reduced power of individual votes. The weapon of choice in their effort to destroy one of our last vestiges of federalism is the Compact. You may recall16 that the Compact, which began in 2007, calls on its state signatories to pledge their electoral votes in presidential elections to whichever candidate wins the national popular vote. The Compact goes into effect when there are enough states on board to reach 270 electoral votes. It currently has 181. It’s unlikely to reach the magic number by the 2020 election, but it hopes to be a game changer by 2024. Fortunately, the Compact has pretty much exhausted the pool of true-blue states, making the going tougher for states with split legislatures that are solid red. Republican voters in general don’t have a problem with the Electoral College. Leftist attempts to abolish the Electoral College are not rooted in concern for individual votes or democracy or anything else. This is evident in the hypocrisy of their scheme and the reasoning behind it. According to the Compact, states will award electors to whomever wins the popular vote, even if that state voted for another candidate. By definition, this goes against the stated purpose of the Compact: to see that everyone’s votes are counted. Of course, 12 of the 13 states pledged to the compact all voted for both Al Gore in 2000 and Hillary Clinton in 2016. (Colorado voted for George W. Bush in 2000 and is the first state to join the Compact that has voted for a Republican presidential candidate at least once in the last 19 years.) These states are reliably blue in recent decades and for the foreseeable future, so it may seem that there isn’t really much at stake. But what about states that are purple, or even red? If anything, 2016 proves that we do need an Electoral College. Clinton almost had it locked up by campaigning in only a handful of urban areas — mostly the big blue vote buckets like LA, NYC, Chicago, and San Francisco. None of this can be explained to leftists, though. They cannot win in the arena of ideas, so they want to change the rules of the game. So far, they have been very clever about exploiting the so-called problems of the Electoral College. The first thing to remember is that there is no problem with the Electoral College. Except if you are a Democrat who can only win by pitting segments of the nation against one another. https://patriotpost.us/articles/61560-blue-states-ready-to-subvert-electoral-college ON OUR WEBSITE TODAY Democrat Faces of Socialism & Anti-Semitism17 — Ocasio-Cortez and Omar are female, young, and pass the Democrats’ Melanin Test, but… Not a Plan for Victory in Afghanistan18 — Talking to the Taliban isn’t necessarily bad, but the U.S. must be careful. GOOD NEWS Cop Made Sure Girls Were Safe, Then Played Dolls With Them21 “Gotham has Batman. Metropolis has Superman. Wakanda has Black Panther. And South Hill, Virginia has C.B. Fleming. ‘They need someone who they feel is a superhero,’ Iesha Roper-Boswell said while standing outside her Mecklenburg Manor apartment. The 28-year-old mother said she believed her daughter and other children in the community have found such a superhero in Fleming, the 42-year-old South Hill Police corporal. ‘He’s awesome. That’s the only word you can really use to describe C.B.,’ she said. ‘It’s just amazing, the bond he has with the children.’” “When emergency crews recently responded to the apartment complex to investigate a gas leak, Officer Fleming spotted children outside playing. Once the leak was deemed not a threat, Fleming wanted to make sure the children felt safe. So he laid down and played dolls with the kids.” Read more at CBS 622. https://patriotpost.us/articles/61542-cop-made-sure-girls-were-safe-then-played-dolls-with-them TOP HEADLINE SUMMARY “U.S. authorities detained more than 70,000 migrants last month, according to preliminary figures, up from 58,000 in January. The majority were Central American parents with children who arrived, again, in unprecedented numbers. During a month when the border debate was dominated by the fight over President Donald Trump’s push for a wall, unauthorized migration in fiscal 2019 is on pace to reach its highest level in a decade. Department of Homeland Security officials say they expect the influx to swell in March and April, months that historically see large increases in illegal crossings as U.S. seasonal labor demand rises. The number of migrants taken into custody last year jumped 39 percent from February to March, and a similar increase this month would push levels to 100,000 detentions or more.” (The Washington Post24) Title: The Patriot Post Digest 3-5-2019 Post by: nChrist on March 05, 2019, 03:57:29 PM ________________________________ The Patriot Post Digest 3-5-2019 From The Federalist Patriot Free Email Subscription (http://patriotpost.us/subscription/new) _______________________________ “California Attorney General Xavier Becerra (D) filed a lawsuit Monday seeking to block the Trump administration’s new policy that could strip millions of dollars from Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers. California became the first state to sue over the policy, arguing that the rule would interfere with the practice of medicine and result in many providers going out of business. … Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum (D) separately announced Monday that she would lead 20 states and the District of Columbia in filing a national lawsuit against the rule on Tuesday.” (The Hill25) “The nation’s top manufacturers have for the ninth consecutive quarter given the Trump economy a thumbs up, setting record industry optimism of the economy and predicting positive growth unseen during the Obama administration. The National Association of Manufacturers said big and small companies are overwhelmingly optimistic about future growth. In fact, the past nine quarters of have seen record optimism, with an average of 91.8 percent of manufacturers positive about their own firm, compared to an average of 68.6 percent during the last two years of the Obama administration.” (Washington Examiner26) War on women? “In an effort to address wage equity among women and members of minority groups, Google studied its own practices as it does every year. The agency has not used the system in months, and the Trump administration might not ask Congress to renew its legal authority. … Congress ended and replaced the program disclosed by [Edward] Snowden with the U.S.A. Freedom Act of 2015, which will expire in December. Security and privacy advocates have been gearing up for a legislative battle over whether to extend or revise the program — and with what changes, if any.” (The New York Times28) “Measles is spreading from New York to Texas to Washington state in the worst outbreak in years, but some state lawmakers want to take the vaccination debate in the opposite direction: Loosening rules covering whether kids get inoculated,” Politico reports29. “In Oregon, state lawmakers will consider a so-called transparency bill favored by the ‘vaccine hesitant.’ New York is simultaneously considering eliminating and expanding exemptions that allow parents to opt out. One bill in Texas would prohibit the state from even tracking exemptions. The push to loosen the rules is occurring even as the U.S. has experienced more than 160 measles cases in 10 states since Jan. 1.” Meanwhile, NBC News says30, “Another study finds no link between autism and measles, mumps and rubella vaccine.” “Russian president Vladimir Putin on Monday officially suspended his country’s obligations under the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty in response to the Trump administration’s withdrawal from the pact last month. Putin said Russia’s participation in the 1987 treaty, which was signed by Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, will end ‘until the U.S. ends its violations of the treaty or until it terminates.’ Last month, the Trump administration announced that the agreement would be terminated in six months unless Russia stopped violating it.” (National Review31) “A federal judge struck down a request Monday to expedite the case of a woman who is begging to return to America32 after leaving years ago to join ISIS. … At a hearing Monday at the U.S. District Court in the District of Columbia, [Hoda] Muthana’s attorney Charles Swift argued that her proceedings should be sped up because Muthana is facing danger at a refugee camp in Syria where she currently is residing with her 18-month-old son. It’s looking at U.S. asylum admissions too. After setting the lowest ceiling for refugees since the program was started in 1980, it looks like President Trump may not even meet that number. … Five months into this fiscal year, CNSNews’s Patrick Goodenough points out, only about 9,305 of the 30,000 refugee slots have been taken — and Christians make up 82 percent of them. That’s a relief to several leaders, who were concerned that too many radical factions were sneaking through our front door under Obama’s loose rules for asylum. … In a world where religious persecution is off the charts, there are people of all faiths who truly need a safe haven.
