A 9/11 retrospective. Daily Features: Top Headlines, Memes, Cartoons, Columnists, and Short Cuts. IN BRIEF Are You Better Off Now Than Two Years Ago?1 Nate Jackson Remember that massive tax cut Republicans passed last year without a single Democrat vote? Well, the GOP has a great strategy for reminding voters how much nearly every American enjoys having more money in that paycheck — a newly announced House bill to make those tax cuts permanent. For the Leftmedia’s spin, we turn to Bloomberg2: “The legislation — released as Republicans are at risk of losing their majority in the House — is seen as a last-ditch effort by GOP lawmakers to convince voters of the benefits of their new tax code. Polls consistently show less than half of Americans approve of the tax cut.” Yes, it’s true that the Republican strategy is a midterm play for votes, and it’s unlikely to become law just yet. And yes, it’s also true that polls indicate voters aren’t as keen as they should be on those tax cuts. Two observations: First, President Donald Trump has been remarkably effective in using the Democrats’ strategy against them, and the House GOP is taking a page from that same playbook. Good. Second, the Democrats’ class-warfare messaging, amplified by the propagandists of their Leftmedia super PAC, has convinced a significant number of Americans that Republican tax cuts were really “only for the rich.” Midterms are historically tough for the president’s party and Democrats have owned a lead in the “generic ballot” for months, so this misconception is hardly surprising. Digging deeper, however, the main areas where the tax cuts are unpopular are blue states with high taxes, leaving voters unhappy with a reduced federal deduction for state and local taxes. In other words, Democrats are telling voters to blame Republicans for high taxes imposed by Democrats. Nice work if you can get it. Republicans are smart to run this packaged pitch to counter Demo lies, distortions, and cynical appeals to envy. The GOP bill not only sends the right message but forces Democrats into the uncomfortable position of voting to raise taxes on everyone. Oh, Democrats will trot out their talking points to win over their faithful welfare constituents, but the same blue-collar workers3 who ditched Hillary Clinton for Trump know which party actually addressed their concerns. As much as Barack Obama might like to claim credit4 for a humming economy, it is the tax-cutting, regulation-reducing policies of Donald Trump and congressional Republicans that spurred it on. Frankly, every time Trump or a campaigning Republican opens his or her mouth, it should be to remind voters that they are indeed better off now than they were two years ago. https://patriotpost.us/articles/58177-are-you-better-off-now-than-two-years-ago Trump Plays Patient, Not Naive, With North Korea5 Monday brought a report that North Korea has not stopped its nuclear weapons program despite Kim Jong-un’s public rhetoric indicating his desire to denuclearize. According to6 NBC News, “The newest intelligence shows Kim’s regime has escalated efforts to conceal its nuclear activity, according to three senior U.S. officials. During the three months since the historic Singapore summit and Trump’s proclamation that North Korea intends to denuclearize, North Korea has built structures to obscure the entrance to at least one warhead storage facility.” This latest report comes on the heels of last week’s seemingly positive development regarding North Korea’s annual military parade. It was learned that a certain element of the parade would be conspicuously absent — there were no ICBMs featured. This may have been a nod by Kim to Trump for the latter having canceled the U.S. and South Korea annual military exercises that have proven to be such a provocation to the North. So is Kim engaged in the same strategy his father took with the U.S., acting at playing nice in order to gain concessions without really changing anything? That’s almost undoubtedly what Kim has up his sleeve, but Trump’s not falling for it, despite his recent message of praise. Trump offered, “This is a big and very positive statement from North Korea. Thank you To Chairman Kim. We will both prove everyone wrong! There is nothing like good dialogue from two people that like each other! Much better than before I took office.” Meanwhile, the White House announced work has begun to set up a second summit between the two leaders. The fact is that behind the scenes, Trump isn’t conceding ground; he’s ratcheting up the pressure. The U.S. has been leading an international coalition to step up efforts in exposing and confronting international shipping that has sought to evade the sanctions against North Korea. In other words, Kim has not pulled the wool over Trump’s eyes. A better way to interpret Trump’s positive messaging on Kim is to understand that while Trump is giving Kim the slow squeeze, he is also giving him room to publicly save face. It may not succeed, but at least it’s not the same failed approach of the last 25 years. https://patriotpost.us/articles/58157-trump-plays-patient-not-naive-with-north-korea Bolton Rejects ICC Authority and Threatens Sanctions7 John Bolton, President Donald Trump’s national security advisor, announced Monday the new U.S. policy with respect to the International Criminal Court (ICC). Bolton stated, “The United States will use any means necessary to protect our citizens, and those of our allies, from unjust prosecution by this illegitimate court. We will not cooperate with the ICC. We will provide no assistance to the ICC. We will not join the ICC. We will let the ICC die on its own. After all, for all intents and purposes, the ICC is already dead to us.” Bolton made his statement to preempt the ICC’s attempt to initiate an investigation into U.S. military and government officials over dubious allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity during the war in Afghanistan. He explained, “This administration will fight back to protect American constitutionalism, our sovereignty, and our citizens. No committee of foreign nations will tell us how to govern ourselves and defend our freedom.” Title: The Patriot Post Digest 9-11-2018 Post by: nChrist on September 11, 2018, 05:45:35 PM ________________________________ The Patriot Post Digest 9-11-2018 From The Federalist Patriot Free Email Subscription (http://patriotpost.us/subscription/new) _______________________________ The U.S. has never recognized the jurisdictional authority of the ICC and has repeatedly rejected it as an infringement upon national sovereignty. But Bolton has not only rejected the ICC’s jurisdiction, he has further threatened the court’s legitimacy for its attempt to go after Israel. “The United States will always stand with our friend and ally, Israel,” Bolton declared. “We will not allow the ICC, or any other organization, to constrain Israel’s right to self-defense.” Bolton’s actions are consistent with Trump’s overriding agenda — blowing up the Washington establishment class’s globalist enterprises. Whether it be pulling out of the Paris climate accord8, ending Barack Obama’s terrible Iran deal9, exiting the fraudulent UN Human Rights Council10, or demanding that our NATO11 allies pay their fair share (just to name a few examples), Trump isn’t afraid to drop policy bombs. Trump has made it clear he doesn’t answer to the globalists; he unapologetically fights for America first. https://patriotpost.us/articles/58178-bolton-rejects-icc-authority-and-threatens-sanctions Top Headlines12 Here’s how safe we are 17 years after 9/11 (The Daily Signal13) China asks WTO for sanctions in U.S. trade dispute (Reuters14) U.S. officials suspect Russia in mystery “attacks” on diplomats in Cuba, China (NBC News15) EPA to roll back Obama-era methane rules (The Wall Street Journal16) Six denials of claims in Woodward’s Trump book17 as it’s released today (The Daily Signal18) Peter Strzok spoke of “media leak strategy” in newly revealed text message to Lisa Page (Washington Examiner19) Vatican preparing response to Viganò accusations20 (National Review21) Google obeys Russia’s demand to remove Putin critic’s YouTube ads (Reason22) Ken Starr says in new memoir he considered perjury charges against Hillary Clinton (Fox News23) Humor: Grandmother trying to figure out how to use Facebook accidentally hacks U.S. election (The Babylon Bee24) Policy: Bernie Sanders’s billionaire welfare taxation defies all economic logic (The Hill25) Policy: America’s record-setting economy makes it boom time for workers (The Heritage Foundation26) For more of today’s news, visit Patriot Headline Report27. https://patriotpost.us/articles/58181-tuesday-top-headlines GOOD NEWS NICU Volunteer Donates Over $1 Million to Baby Unit28 Who would have ever thought that volunteering to rock babies at a local neonatal unit would turn into a million-dollar donation? OPINION IN BRIEF Dennis Prager: “What a president does as president is immeasurably more important than his personal sins. What he does personally affects his family. What he does as president affects the lives of 328 million Americans and, for that matter, the whole world. Donald Trump is responsible for the lowest unemployment in generations, for appointing two conservative Supreme Court justices, for boosting defense spending, for confronting the illegal-immigrant crisis, for cutting government regulations, for strongly supporting Israel, for lowering taxes, for confronting Western European countries over their morally indefensible low defense spending and so much more that anyone who calls himself conservative should celebrate. Those achievements — not to mention preventing a left-wing, i.e. Democratic Party, victory in 2016 — are what should matter to every conservative and every American frightened by what the left is doing to the country, to its universities, high schools, families, gender relations and race relations, and everything else it touches. If your house were on fire, would you be more concerned with the character of the firefighters sent to extinguish the fire or their firefighting ability? The generation that grew up under one of the most decent presidential moral models — Dwight Eisenhower — turned out to be the most narcissistic, morally confused and unpatriotic generation in modern American history. So much for presidents as models for children.” SHORT CUTS Insight: “Censorship reflects a society’s lack of confidence in itself.” —Justice Potter Stewart (1915-1985) Upright: “The United States will use any means necessary to protect our citizens and those of our allies from unjust prosecution by this illegitimate court.” —National Security Advisor John Bolton on the “ineffective, unaccountable, and indeed outright dangerous” International Criminal Court Political futures: “If Hillary Clinton had won and the Affordable Care Act was protected … I was happy to go my way. … But to have no woman at the table and to have the Affordable Care Act at risk, I said, ‘As long as [Trump’s] here, I’m here.’” —House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) Collusion: “I want to talk to you about media leak strategy with DOJ before you go.” —former FBI agent Peter Strzok in a newly released text to his mistress, Lisa Page Pot calling the kettle black: “You have a president who clearly doesn’t understand America, doesn’t understand the Constitution, doesn’t understand the role of the Justice Department, the separation of powers, and that’s dangerous.” —John Kerry Non Compos Mentis: “I did not threaten [Trump] constituents and supporters.
