Title: If you had a million dollars...
Post by: Primrose on March 07, 2004, 03:24:28 PM
What would you do with a million dollars??

I would give some of the money to a charity like Unicef or another fund working with people in poverty and use the rest to take friends and family on a big long trip. Then, with whatever remains I would pay for my college. How about you? :D

If I was younger, and therefore, have no need for money, all of it would go to charity.

But now that I'm in my 20s and have bills to pay, I would keep some of the money, and hopefully, I can give large portion of it to charity.

Buy tons of presents for everyone. I'd pay off the debate of Centrel Baptist of Jacksonville, just out of spite(they have a REALLY HIGH debate for spending to much on a brand new church building) ;D

I'd buy my band all new instraments, all matching, with red to black sunburst on it all. I'd also look into the best lessons for my guys

I'd get tons to my church, of course.

I'd play off the next 8 years of college, maybe "donate" to some of the Profs in the classes I'm not doing so hot in ;)

My Girlfriend would be spoiled rotten. So would all my ex's, out of spite, again. ;D

I would get my self a Jap import, and open a legal drag racing circuit in my town.

Give lots to my town, really clean it up, help out the tons of downtroden folks, and build a honky-tonk to rival Billy Bob's, only it is focused on Blue Grass and Celtic and Folk. Also, give money for them to build that next lake (Lake Comubia, after the Shuttle that crashed in the area). and Clean up the old lake (Which is overrun with hydra, no room for Wake boarding any more!)

Man, I think I'd be in the red by then, wouldn't I? ;D

Hmmmm... if I had a million dollars... the Gov. would first take its slice of the pie... so with the remaining 700,000 I would take out the Lord's $ FIRST... then invest the remaining amount in the best investments possible... keeping diversity in mind... so I could continue to be a good steward... increasing my income... and thus increasing my ability to give unto the Lord... :D

I think that if i had the $700,000,000(after the Govt gets their stingy share), i would visit 4 Bible Believing Christian Ministries and share my wealth with each of them!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           :)and yes, Crusader, i would contribute to your bookstore ;)

What country do you live in?  It's pretty odd that a government would add $699 million to your $1 million.  :D

Buy a bunch of gift certifiactes to the local grocery store, go to a poor part of town, and stand outside the store, and give them away! hummm~~~ what else, gotta think!

Countrycat -
I've always wanted to stand on a street corner handing out $10 bills!  It just sounds like so much FUN!  Of course - I'd want to change corners (and disguises) every 10 minutes or so to avoid double-dippers!

Cool!   ;D

(Would that be considered sinful - to give away money to everyone who walks by whether they need it or not?  I bet somewhere in Proverbs it would list the practice in the "fools" catagory...)

Yes.
(Of course I was just a wee lad...) :)

They never did show "The Millionaire's" face, did they?  Just his butler-type guy who went around doling out the checks...

It's certainly fun to dream about.

After taxes, or before?   After tax would be 'bout 600,000, I think.

So if I had 600,000, I'd prbly give 15% to charity(Christian--maybe missions...).

That'd leave 510,000.   Another 40,000 to immediate family members.

That'd leave 470,000.  Which I'd probly invest.  At 4%, pby in U.S. Treasuries, I guess.  4% would be 'bout $19,000 per year?

With that $19k, per year, I'd try to live on and  start a business on a shoe string, if I could.

Maybe mow lawns or sumpthin.   ::)

I used to have a “reverse gear” for my motorcycle.  But then I decided it was more important for her to get the dishes and vacuuming done than to push me out of the driveway…

hmm  what to do what to do...
Im like alot of yall id LOVe to be able to do stuff like hand out money to strangers that are in need  or buy a bunch of groceries and drop them off at homes that i knew were in need (esp those with children) or secretly pay off some peoples bills and see the looks on thier faces when they recieve the bill  that says OWE: NIL.. PAID IN FULL...
or buy my parents a new home or car , hand over  the mortgage papers that says paid in full to my husband, but the very first thing id do is pay the tithes off it to deserving struggling churches and pastors , missionaries and charities that help feed  and cloth and take care of poor and sick children! It is wonderful to dream (i have to admit tho.,., id have plenty of fun having a spending spree fixing up my home and for my kids!! lol)
hmmm  to dream , to dream.. ;D

True wealth is not comprised of material things. The
Scripture calls these "uncertain riches" and warns us not to
trust in them (I Tim. 6:17). True riches is "to know the love
of Christ, which passeth knowledge" and so to be "filled with
all the fulness of God" (Eph. 3:19).

Amen, A4C!

Its fun to think of what we'd do with a giant gift of money; but what do we do with the resources we currently have? Its important to be faithful with small things. (Very, very small things. Tiny, minuscule things... ;D)

I heard on the news tonight that some 24-year-old won 49.9 million dollars in a lottery. He says he's buying a new home (he's in a trailer with his wife now) and then he's going back to school! Is that not amazing? A lot of people would quit school, but he's using to go. I think that's nice.

But of course there's the eternal value. The Bible says that if we are not faithful with worldly riches, who will give us eternal riches? And that we should use it to make friends for ourselves, obviously meaning to benefit the saints. Voice of the Martyrs would do amazing things with that kind of money.

I would do a little of both, I would buy off my college to give me a 3.9 GP every semester!  ;D All the way to my 3rd PhD ;D

;D That's a mighty big candy bar! are you going to share?

I think i would pay off my house, fix it's problems(bathroom, roof, windows), finish the attic since my mom-in-law is coming to live with us. then i would put a big chunk in a education fund for my daughter, some for my neices and nephews, put some aside for retirement), then give the rest for charity. I hope there would be some left to give to charity after that, LOL!

i would like to give to abused kids, kids with terminal illnesses, battered women, and Christian out reach.

First thing we would do is 15% tithe to the local outreach shelter. Pay off our measly 17000 dollar debt. Buy the old house we live in. Repair this old house. Fix my old car. Put money away for the 3 Kids edjukashun. Take care of my Dad's morgatge, and my Inlaws morgatge. Then take the childrens church groups out for Ice Cream. Then maybe buy my wife a cookbook and a cooking class  he he he he.

I would definatly keep working, and let my wife stay home if she wanted. We would still shop at Wal-Mart and the dollar store. We are just to Humble to show off.

My Wife's boss asked her how we raise 3 kids on 25k a year. My wife just laughed and told her that with faith we could live on alot less. I love that woman.

Love,

Coyote

Hey, who wouldn't crack open the wallet instead of books if it meant a higher GPA! ;D

Coyote- When shopping at wal-mart, will your use a million dollor bill? ;D I don't think it would be "unhumble" to shop at nicer places. You have the right to get better qualities mechandice and all. Nothing cocky or prideful about that.

I have quite a strong position on the matter, because my line of work pays so well that I could be a millionaire (pound millionaire which is better than dollar) by some stage in my 40's, but I have elected not to, because I don't think it's right to be rich.

Instead I give the excess to charity but I like the idea of starting up a trust fund and I know someone who could run it, too.
