“Let justice be done though the heavens should fall.” —John Adams (1777)

IN BRIEF

Sessions Fires McCabe, Twitter Storm Ensues1

By Thomas Gallatin

Following the FBI’s own disciplinary recommendations2, Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe hours before he was slated for official retirement, precluding him3 from receiving full retirement benefits after a 21-year career with the agency. McCabe had taken leave from the bureau in January, meaning he was technically still an employee — until Friday. Announcing his decision, Sessions stated, “Pursuant to Department Order 1202, and based on the report of the Inspector General, the findings of the FBI Office of Professional Responsibility, and the recommendation of the Department’s senior career official, I have terminated the employment of Andrew McCabe effective immediately.” Sessions added, “McCabe had made an unauthorized disclosure to the news media and lacked candor — including under oath — on multiple occasions.” In other words, Sessions fired McCabe for lying.

Following the decision, McCabe, who had remained largely silent since he took his terminal leave, lashed out, “This attack on my credibility is one part of a larger effort not just to slander me personally, but to taint the FBI, law enforcement, and intelligence professionals more generally.” McCabe then pivoted and blamed President Donald Trump, revealing his own political bias: “It is part of this Administration’s ongoing war on the FBI and the efforts of the Special Counsel investigation, which continue to this day. Their persistence in this campaign only highlights the importance of the Special Counsel’s work.”

Trump followed up the news of McCabe’s dismissal by tweeting, “Andrew McCabe FIRED, a great day for the hard working men and women of the FBI — A great day for Democracy. Sanctimonious James Comey was his boss and made McCabe look like a choirboy. He knew all about the lies and corruption going on at the highest levels of the FBI!”

And then the Twitter floodgates opened. Former FBI Director Comey weighed in with a tease for his upcoming tell-all book by which the American people “can judge for themselves who is honorable and who is not.” Then former CIA Director John Brennan Twitter-blasted Trump, “When the full extent of your venality, moral turpitude, and political corruption becomes known, you will take your rightful place as a disgraced demagogue in the dustbin of history. You may scapegoat Andy McCabe, but you will not destroy America…America will triumph over you.”

Not to be outdone, Trump then once again hammered Robert Mueller’s special investigation, stating that it “should have never been started,” as there was no evidence and no crime committed. It was a “witch hunt” based on a “fake dossier” paid for by Hillary Clinton4.

While the Twitter salvos fly back and forth, it is now more clear than ever that members of Barack Obama’s Justice Department were highly politicized5 and were determined to resist Trump’s presidency. Now at least two, Comey and McCabe, have been exposed and removed for their failure to be honest. It appears that they engaged in subterfuge in order at the very least to limit Trump’s ability to effectively govern, with the hope of eventually seeing him removed from office. Finally, contrary to both Comey and McCabe’s assertion that Trump is responsible for smearing the FBI’s reputation, the fact is those two are most guilty for dragging down the agency’s good name. In reality, Trump has been effective in exposing the depth of corruption that exists within the DC Swamp.

Military Academies: The Leftist Agenda Persists6

By Mark Alexander

A commander in chief can bypass Congress on many of his executive branch agendas — he just issues marching orders to cabinet secretaries and that becomes policy. Yes, Congress has some ability to object by way of vetting nominations and budgets, but the Left’s social devolution agendas bypass those checks and balances.

As those agendas go, perhaps the most harmful implementation was between 2009 and 2017, the years Barack Obama7 was able to install military leaders who would carry out his social agenda across service branches, particularly his homosexual agenda8. There has been and still is much degradation in the ranks9 as a consequence of his deep-state residuals among “military leaders.”

There was, and remains, no better place to implement those destructive agendas than in our nation’s military service academies, where future officers are taught military doctrine. Despite the fact their principal obligation is “to support and defend10” our nation’s Constitution, they are now expected to support and defend leftist social doctrine.

Last fall, I highlighted the case of an overtly communist cadet at West Point11, whose anti-American rants were known by USMA commanding officers, who, despite his violation of UCMJ regulations, were unwilling to take action. That was not so much about the cadet as it was about the failure of leadership.

However, as service academies go, it is the Air Force Academy that became the primary target for implementing Obama’s social agenda. In 2013, The Patriot Post uncovered and halted an effort by the Obama administration to remove “so help me God” from military oaths12, starting with the USAFA.

Obama’s parting shot at USAFA was his elevation of Kristin Goodwin13 to take over as commandant of the U.S. Air Force Academy. BrigGen Goodwin has sufficient qualifications for the post, but the qualification that most interested Obama was the fact that she has a “wife.” Despite concerns registered with Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis, neither the Trump administration14 nor Congress were going to object to Goodwin’s appointment at risk of offending women voters15.

The effluent of Goodwin’s appointment emerged this month at USAFA’s 25th National Character and Leadership Symposium16, the theme of which was “Ethics and Respect For Human Dignity.” Nobody is against that, but what that translated into under Goodwin was as described: “This year’s NCLS speakers’ stories will focus on the value and importance of ethics and respect for human dignity across personal and professional cultures. The challenges of a multicultural world require individuals to cast aside their own overt or covert biases towards gender, racial, religious, or sexual identities in order to create an environment that facilitates ethical leadership and decision-making as well as personal and professional respect for their fellow human beings.”

In other words, among the symposium’s featured presenters were gender-confused17 military personnel and Marxists18, selected to model the “ethics and character” military officers need to be effective leaders.

FEATURED ANALYSIS
Walkouts Assault Liberty in More Ways Than One34

By Robin Smith

Liberty-loving Americans must make a commitment to be active in demanding government that honors the constitutional rights of its citizens, and we must work to that end ourselves in our communities.

While the next few paragraphs will analyze the recent student walkouts in support of gun laws, proceed with the frame of mind that the rights of Americans — the fundamental ingredients of a free people — are in danger. This is neither fear-mongering nor hyperbole. All the evidence supports that those of us who love Liberty must immediately rise to the occasion to be guardians of that Liberty — or be the generation that will witness it become a memory.

Not only are we watching, yet again, the Democrats infringe upon the Second Amendment — to rightfully bear arms, not to hunt, but to protect oneself, one’s property and defend one’s rights — but America is witnessing the First Amendment under direct assault by the same group of political activists whose agenda is clearly to make every citizen a ward of the State.

Nationwide, student walkouts occurred last Wednesday35 in many schools. These planned protests were meant to “demand stricter gun laws,” as reported by CNN, and to “protest gun violence,” according to NPR. The opening line of the USA Today article written just a week after the Parkland, Florida, school shooting was on target in noting the issue at hand was “the debate over gun ownership rights.”

Yet the cause of the Parkland massacre is now known to have resulted from failure after failure36 of current laws, systems and people in place to protect innocents. It was not because of lax gun laws. As has occurred too many times, Democrats stand on the coffins of innocents to push their agenda of gun control.

Among the nationwide coverage of these interruptions in the academic school day for the purpose of demanding limitations on the Second Amendment were cases where those who chose not to protest were punished for exercising their own First Amendment rights.

Hilliard Davidson High School senior Jacob Shoemaker of Ohio explained his decision not to participate in the walkout, or to show up to the alternative study hall, which resulted in a two-day out-of-school suspension. Instead, Shoemaker sat in a locked classroom doing his homework because, in his words, “They were forcing me to make a choice, a political choice in the classroom.” The choice, the senior explained, was to go outside the school to support gun control or to an alternative study hall where he would be “seen as supporting gun violence.”

In a televised interview with Fox News, Shoemaker posited that “students should be able to make a choice and not be forced into a situation by the officials in their school district.” He drew a provocative contrast between the National Walkout Day to support gun control and how a similar walkout would be treated if the issue at hand were abortion. “If this whole protest was about abortion, I promise you this situation would be handled very different,” said the well-spoken senior.

He said he had endured insults such as being an “awful person” and “disgusting human being” who’s “so pro-gun and disrespectful to the lives lost in Florida.” But Shoemaker nailed it as he finished the interview: “They’ve gone and politicized that situation. It’s not a political event; it’s a tragedy.”

Don’t miss the Rahm Emanuel moment, young sir. The current mayor of Chicago, a city with some of the most rigid gun laws and the highest homicide rates, once advised Barack Obama, “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste.” Indeed, a tragedy is always fitting to become political fodder when it means advancing the leftist agenda.

The Ohio student was punished for failing to oppose the Second Amendment, as well as for failing to parrot the same propaganda as the mob — hence he was also punished for exercising his First Amendment rights. But he wasn’t alone.

Julianne Benzel, a history teacher at Rocklin High School in California, was placed on administrative leave following the class discussion that supplemented the organized walkout. Benzel dared to pose this question to her students: “If a group of students nationwide, or even locally, decided, ‘I want to walk out of school for 17 minutes’ and go in the quad area and protest abortion, would that be allowed by our administration?”

The blizzard of snowflakes melted because they were being confronted with a question that required critical thinking to justify one act of speech versus another. Snowflake parents reportedly called to complain because their equally fragile children had told them of the challenge to think. Subsequently, local school leaders issued the following statement: “A Rocklin High School teacher has been placed on paid administrative leave due to several complaints from parents and students involving the teacher’s communications regarding today’s student-led civic engagement activities.”

Don’t miss the awful irony. While these very educrats claim this walkout was a “student-led civic engagement” activity, a group of kids may not be free to lead a prayer for fear of being sued by the Freedom From Religion Foundation.

Double standards must end not only because they’re wrong but because they’re unjust acts that erode the legitimate liberties of Americans.

When our Founders wrote that Americans are “endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights,” those words were meaningful as a group devoted to freedom prepared to take up arms against a tyrannical government that held in oppression its subjects. Today, most don’t even understand the term “unalienable.”

The rights we possess that are unalienable can neither be taken away nor granted because they are not an act of an institution or government; they are possessed by all of humanity as God-given rights. If we don’t stand as guardians of these rights through the proactive toil and commitment of electing the right leaders, demanding a constitutional government and defeating the enemies of Liberty, the greatness of our nation will become a relic.

It’s an election year. Let’s remove barriers to freedom.

OPINION IN BRIEF

Jeff Jacoby: “[Hillary] Clinton’s problem with married white women had nothing to do with her sex, and everything to do with her being a liberal Democrat. Wedlock correlates strongly with more conservative political opinions; in Gallup’s words, ‘marital status remains one of the most reliable predictors of party identification.’ Americans who lean conservative or Republican — those who are older, white, and religious — are more likely to get married. At the same time, marriage and the experiences associated with it — parenthood, home ownership, the economics of supporting a family — have a well-known tendency to nudge adults to the right. It will hardly come as a bolt from the blue that spouses affect each other’s thinking and habits. Studies have long shown that women pay less attention to politics than men do. That helps explain why single women are less likely to register and vote — and why, when they marry, women are more likely to embrace their husband’s political perspective than the other way around. That doesn’t reflect patriarchal misogyny; it reflects the fact that bonds of love and marriage lead people to unite in other ways too.”

SHORT CUTS

Good question: “Here’s an interesting mental exercise. Imagine that there were a major religious group with as much money as George Soros. Suppose it announced that it was asking schools all over America to release students for 17 minutes to pray for the victims of the Parkland shooting. Does anyone think for a second that the entire left-wing establishment would have embraced such a request for students to pray?” —Gary Bauer

For the record: “These charges against Gates and Manafort have nothing to do with ‘collusion with Russia,’ the investigation for which Rosenstein appointed Mueller. There is no reason this case could not have been prosecuted by regular Justice Department lawyers. There was no need for a special counsel for this. And regular Justice Department prosecutors, overseen by engaged Justice Department superiors ensuring adherence to well-established Justice Department policies, would not prosecute a case this way.” —Andrew C. McCarthy

Braying Jenny: “I understand how some of what I said26 upset people and can be misinterpreted. I meant no disrespect to any individual or group. And I want to look to the future as much as anybody.” —Hillary Clinton, who thinks accusing someone of having “misinterpreted” something is tantamount to an apology

Friendly fire: “My state is one of those states [Clinton berated]. … So, it’s very hurtful to lump all Ohioans, and all people — in politics, we should not criticize the voters. The onus is on the person that is running for office.” —former Ohio state senator Nina Turner

Non Compos Mentis: “Man, it just started snowing out of nowhere this morning, man. Y'all better pay attention to this climate control, man, this climate manipulation. And DC keeps talking about, ‘We are a resilient city.’ And that’s a model based off the Rothschilds [Jewish bankers] controlling the climate to create natural disasters they can pay for to own the cities, man. Be careful.” —Washington, DC, council member Trayon White Sr. (But hey, at least he’s sorry now50.)

Late-night humor: “Cancun, Mexico, was just named the best spring break destination, and thousands of Americans are expected to visit. And the people of Mexico were like, ‘Never thought we’d say this, but what’s the ETA on Trump’s wall?’” —Jimmy Fallon

Join us in daily prayer for our Patriots in uniform — Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Coast Guardsmen — standing in harm’s way in defense of Liberty, and for their families.
