Title: MEL GIBSON on ABC 10:00 EST 2-16-04 AD Post by: cris on February 16, 2004, 05:42:44 PM In case anyone is interested thought I'd let you know that Diane Sawyer is interviewing Mel Gibson tonight at 10:00 EST on ABC. On the promo preview, he said God gave him the idea to do this movie 12 yrs. ago. Think this interview may be a little different from the others. Hearing of the Sawyer interview with P. Bush a month ago, or whenever it was, I'd like to take along my pacifier, I think... :-X Title: Re:MEL GIBSON on ABC 10:00 EST 2-16-04 AD Post by: a.b. on February 23, 2004, 10:30:12 PM Does anyone know if Mel Gibson has recently made a committment to Christ or is he just a nice guy who believes in the Bible?
Title: Re:MEL GIBSON on ABC 10:00 EST 2-16-04 AD Post by: Symphony on February 23, 2004, 10:49:33 PM I've heard he had an epiphany during the production of "Braveheart". But I'm not totally sure; "What A Woman Wants" was filmed since then(I think), and, tho funny, he's dressed up as a woman in it, etc. Sometimes I wonder if a saved believer would do what he's doing--taking the time to dramatize Jesus' last hours? Does it "evangelize"? Yes--on the scale it's apparently being shown, worldwide--yes, I think it definitely is. It's getting the gruesome story of our Lord out there--and forcing many in the media to say something. I listened the a Time writer seemingly dancing around the story, today. Amazing, when faced with the bare facts, how I can still excuse myself. Human beings are amazing, at our artifice. Symphony, Quote Sometimes I wonder if a saved believer would do what he's doing--taking the time to dramatize Jesus' last hours? Its a very old tradition. People put on passion plays for hundreds of years - they were an important part of both evangelism and teaching people about the events of the gospel. Most important in an age of illiteracy - and making a comeback in this age of biblical illiteracy. They're a handy, visual way of showing people what happened - and most people have visual minds * References: Snopes (http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/gibson.asp) Fox News (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,111979,00.html) The Telegraph (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2003/06/29/wmel29.xml) Title: Re:MEL GIBSON on ABC 10:00 EST 2-16-04 AD Post by: Symphony on February 23, 2004, 11:54:05 PM Wow, okay, yes, very good point. The Passion Play a frequent motif in many locales. There's one known regionally near where I live in fact. Yes, good point. And yes, Gibson in an offshoot Catholic outfit, of sorts. It just means that he's split from Rome itself. I suppose a more familiar term would be a sect of Catholicism. The Pope doesn't recognise them as being catholics, but they think they are catholics and that the Pope is wrong :) They don't agree with the second Vatican council - thats the one which got rid of Latin masses and things like that. I know it did more important things than just that, but I cannot remember what they are. :) |
