And what you be that thing he challenged you to?

Do any of you know that old story about the devil and the walnuts? The devil was bored, and decided to try to entice a woman coming home from market and make her open walnuts for him (as you do, folk stories are strange) by handing her one with a pearl in it. So he slit open a walnut and inserted a pearl. When the woman came along, he handed her the walnut and said that these were special walnuts which had pearls as well as the meat in them. She opened it, popped it in her mouth, thanked him, and walked away. The devil was amazed - where was the pearl? He thought he must have given her the wrong one, so he started opening all the walnuts. The devil went down to Texas, he was lookin' for a soul to steal. He was in a bind 'cuz he was way behind and he was willin' to make a deal.
