Title: Featured User of the Week Post by: Whitehorse on January 31, 2004, 10:14:55 PM I think we should have, a featured user of the week. Or month if week is too frequent. I think we should accept volunteers, especially hilarious or dryly witty ones, to write each "biography," with the content mostly relating to the site itself. Kind of a personality caricature in words.
Or, even make it the CU version of A&E's Biography. But much, much funnier. Do we have any volunteers.....? :D Title: Re:Featured User of the Week Post by: Symphony on January 31, 2004, 10:18:12 PM ...or maybe a jailbird of the week... ??? Title: Re:Featured User of the Week Post by: JudgeNot on January 31, 2004, 10:34:59 PM Careful - I have learned the hard way that 'feelings' may be easily hurt... ;D
(But I think it's a cool idea.) Title: Re:Featured User of the Week Post by: Whitehorse on January 31, 2004, 10:39:13 PM JN, true-the featured user would have to want to be featured and it would have to be done right.
Sym, yeah-how about "wanted" posters for our favorite jailbirds? Title: Re:Featured User of the Week Post by: Sapphire W34P0N on February 01, 2004, 03:17:35 PM Careful - I have learned the hard way that 'feelings' may be easily hurt...
If someone's feelings get hurt from someone they don't even know on a message board, then they seriously need to rethink their life. Title: Re:Featured User of the Week Post by: JudgeNot on February 01, 2004, 05:49:11 PM Sapphire - you are truly one of character. If the truth be known - I had my feelings severly hurt by a post just yesterday.
In fact, I had to get up this morning and, before going to church, edit my reply post because it exposed my "selfish childishness" (which embarassed me to no end) rather than the "character" traits I have learned just recently from you. God bless, JN Title: Re:Featured User of the Week Post by: Whitehorse on February 01, 2004, 06:36:53 PM JN, I'm really sorry to hear about what happened. I know; there are some zingers flying around. I get hit with them too sometimes. You always handle everything so well. I think we could learn a lot from you.

Symphony, I know what u mean about being hurt by things said even if it is only on a message board...the internet can be a cruel place sometimes I think because many times we take it personal which is nothing wrong with it...That is why I left one forum I used to go on. (That & the ppl were just not "good ppl" to be with) Title: Re:Featured User of the Week Post by: FBI78 on February 05, 2004, 05:25:04 PM Whitehorse, that sounds like a cool idea! When people open there hearts, and someone shoots them down, it hurts. Whether they are close friends of strangers online. It isn’t that they are hurt, it is like they feel violated, a piece of them was put into the message, and was mocked and scoffed at. I never thought of it that way. Title: Re:Featured User of the Week Post by: Whitehorse on February 08, 2004, 12:14:22 PM Yeah, where I come from teasing is just an expression of affection. Since not everyone has this same experience with it, though, you do have to kind of pick and choose those who enjoy it from those who don't, and those who do are usually the people who do the most teasing. ;) At any rate, I'm thinking like the CU awards. As far as I know, people had fun with those.
But JudgeNot is right-we do have to be careful. Title: Re:Featured User of the Week Post by: Tibby on February 08, 2004, 12:24:37 PM Yeah, where I come from teasing is just an expression of affection. Thats how it is here. I'm starting to think the "women-folk" don't see it that way, but around here, the guys LOVE to pick at them. The classic diologue: Male: [insert remark here] Female: Stop it! Male: You know you like it! Quote Or TL for her ability to affect men of all ages? kinda mean if u ask me, im not here to EFFECT men..I love it here, and i have friends here, Not sure what i did to have u saying something like that, If having a few compliments come my way makes me only here to effect men :-X then im sorry.Actually i dont just take offence , it down right hurts. thanks for that..i have tried to post things to encourage and uplift people and the only thing you could think of was something hurtful. sorry Sh for whatever i did to make u think that way of me.. TL :( Hey Tigerlily-------------I just read this thread for the first time today and when I did, my thought about what SH said about you was, oh, how wonderful. What a nice compliment. That's some ABILITY. The young and the old love her. Guess it just goes to show how different we all interpret the same statement. Ah, that's what makes the world go round though, doesn't it? You are such a sweetheart, I'm so sorry you felt hurt. EVERYONE likes you! So there!!! You got such a warm welcome back to CU. I think we all misinterpret what's being said at times. I know I have. Title: The Story of Sapphire Post by: nChrist on February 20, 2004, 04:15:23 PM The Story of Sapphire:
Sapphire and his siblings were discovered after a rock slide in Kashmir, India. They were a rather homely group as you can see from the group photo below: (http://www.sirinet.net/~blkidps/sapg.gif) The family was wrapped in the folds of a turban and smuggled out of Kashmir by a camel jockey. Cud, the camel jockey, chewed his cud in fear that the family was so plain that he would not be able to trade them for his life-long dream, a tent that he could call his own. It was with great anticipation that Cud stopped to see Omar in the desert hoping for a trade. Omar looked at the family and said that only one of the family was a high enough grade to be worthy of a trade, and that was Sapphire (You guessed it!). Cud happily took a two-person pup-tent in trade. It was a tight fit, but Cud and his camel did manage to sleep in the tent that night, and they lived happily thereafter. Omar took sapphire to a local jewelry dealer named Gem. Gem looked and told Omar that he had nothing of any value and offered Cud a pound of Yak jerky for sapphire. Omar happily made the trade, thinking that he got the better of the deal with the highly prized Yak jerky. Gem cut and polished sapphire very carefully, and a brilliant, sky-blue star was revealed. Sapphire had a hard heart of aluminum oxide, rated at a 9 with a specific gravity of 4.0. Gem looked at the trigonal masterpiece and said that sapphire was precious. Yes, sapphire became a star and quickly gained fame and fortune in the land. Sapphire had a short but brilliant career and retired. Below, you will see sapphire relaxing on the beach: (http://www.sirinet.net/~blkidps/sapl.gif) And sapphire lived happily thereafter.
