Title: Holy family route? Or great money-spinner? Post by: creationist on January 31, 2004, 04:58:56 PM http://www.egyptvoyager.com/features_holyfamily_route_pg1.htm
Your comments please. Title: Re:Holy family route? Or great money-spinner? Post by: JudgeNot on January 31, 2004, 06:07:30 PM I've got a tiny sliver of wood that is “guaranteed” to be from the Cross. I can even make sure it is ‘certified’.
Make me an offer. ;D ;D Seriously – I don’t know what to make of it. The foot-print in rock is a little hard to swallow. But as for the “family route” – maybe it can’t be disproved, but I’m skeptical. Even if it is true – what would it really mean to a Christian? Unlike the muslims who must worship facing specific buildings – we are free of such – we have a Living Jesus in our hearts. I’m more interested in where Jesus is living today than a rock He may have stepped on 2000 years ago. Title: Re:Holy family route? Or great money-spinner? BUT! These people travel the world and spend their hard earned money to visit these places and worship these objects. I know. I was once Orthodox and I saw it all my life. They are taught from an early age idolise objects like that. Last night my daughter cleared out her jewellery box of all her old fake jewellery. She gave some to a small child that instantly kissed the ring that had a Cross on it. Title: Re:Holy family route? Or great money-spinner? Post by: JudgeNot on January 31, 2004, 10:31:54 PM I don't know what to tell you, C., it is actually a fair question:
Do we "cheer" these people on, or do we pray for them? If Jesus is actually living in their hearts and they are intent on following His path just to walk on the same sand He tread because they love Him so much, is it our place to reprimand them? I'm not wise enough to have an answer. Title: Re:Holy family route? Or great money-spinner? Post by: creationist on February 02, 2004, 03:27:31 AM Quote ...If Jesus is actually living in their hearts and they are intent on following ???????Can’t you read. :) They name places that Jesus supposedly performed miracles at after his mother. Mary’s tree, The Virgin Mary Church, the Virgins tree, The church of Mary etc. What does that tell you? I grew up with these people before my eyes were opened. Whenever they hear mention Christ’s name they ask if you’re a Jehovah’s Witness. They worship Mary. Title: Re:Holy family route? Or great money-spinner? Post by: creationist on February 03, 2004, 01:11:41 AM Just as I thought.
No comment by our Catholic and Orthodox Brothers. Title: Re:Holy family route? Or great money-spinner? Post by: ebia on February 03, 2004, 01:44:37 AM Quote Just as I thought. Could be any number of reasons, for example:No comment by our Catholic and Orthodox Brothers. 1. Maybe they don't look down here (ie this part of the boards) very often. 2. They have insufficient information about the story to comment. Not everyone feels the need to pretend to know everything about situations they don't really know about. 2. There's not much evidence that you're really interested in what they have to say. Title: Re:Holy family route? Or great money-spinner? Post by: ebia on February 03, 2004, 01:46:32 AM On the other hand, perhaps I should point out one other reason, and that's that the church featured in the story is neither Catholic nor Othodox but Coptic.
Title: Re:Holy family route? Or great money-spinner? Post by: creationist on February 03, 2004, 02:11:21 AM Same, same.
All three worship Mary Title: Re:Holy family route? Or great money-spinner? Post by: ebia on February 03, 2004, 04:45:53 AM Well, I know none of the Catholics I know (a lot) worship Mary, and the few Orthodox I know don't. Since I've never met a member of a Coptic church, I couldn't speak from experience about them.
Title: Re:Holy family route? Or great money-spinner? Post by: creationist on February 03, 2004, 07:31:44 AM Unless you've been in a Catholic or Orthodox church and looked around or even listened to their liturgy. I suggest you let them defend their heretical practices.
